  1. They had the Brewers connected to college guys last year too. Even if the Brewers draft HS guys for the next 100 years they'll probably predict college guys for them.
  2. Looking at the five Baseball America mock drafts, we were at various times predicted to take: Aaron Nola (first mock), Tyler Beede (second and third mocks), Max Pentecost (fourth mock), and Sean Newcomb (fifth mock), and were linked in the blurb to Brandon Finnegan, Erick Fedde, Jeff Hoffman, Grant Holmes, and Michael Kopech. (bolded players were gone by our pick) They also said that the Brewers were linked to college players and wouldn't want to take a risk on a high school pitcher: So the Brewers are pretty much a guarantee to get a HS player with their first pick, then.
  3. I'm not really sure why, though. Ray Montgomery doesn't usually go with conservative picks. Perhaps it's because he thinks a quick to the majors guy will speed up the rebuilding process?
  4. Apparently Garrett Whitley will work out for the Brewers this week, and has worked out for the Braves and the Yankees before.
  5. The thing is, Aiken reportedly had an abnormal UCL to begin with. So there is a greater uncertainty about how well he'll recover and stay healthy.
  6. Allard and Whitley are my top 2, with Nikorak a close third. I'm not sure about Aiken because I don't know much about his medicals. But assuming that he'll be fine, it would be very tough not to pick him. But it all depends on how healthy he'll be.
  7. I took part in the Minor League Ball community mock draft and for the first three Brewers picks I selected Garrett Whitley, Alonzo Jones, and Tristin English. What do you guys think of them?
  8. If you want a college arm sure, those guys are gone early, which is why I'm usually on the HS bandwagon or was looking at a college closer like Jay. Even with HS guys if they have good stuff, command, not-so-outrageous bonus demands, good mechanics, etc., then it would be far from a guarantee that they would be available for that long. A lot of high school guys are gonna be projects one way or another. Those who wouldn't have a lot to work on wouldn't be around for long- unless they've been injured. Going off of MLB.com's scouting reports and assuming that 50-55 command is "so-so" command and above that is above average, the only HS pitcher reported to have 60 command is Kolby Allard. And if it wasn't for his injury he wouldn't have been around for the Brewers' pick. Looking at last year's batch, only Brady Aiken had 60 command. And he was long gone by the time the Brewers picked. A lot of high school guys are gonna need some work- they went through high school blowing guys away with just stuff alone. They didn't necessarily need top-notch command to get by.
  9. Yes, Kolby Allard. But then theress the whole medical thing. And had he been healthy he wouldn't be around for the Brewers' pick. And even with the injury there are some folks who think he'll be gone before the Brewers get to pick.
  10. Well of course Harrison and Gatewood are struggling- they're facing competition that is very advanced for their age. That really shouldn't be a reason why they would go for a high-floor pick. Come to think of it, in most years the Brewers are predicted to go with high-floor players. I wonder if folks are still judging the Brewers based on the early-Seid era.
  11. I think it's kinda hard to find those players at #15. In most cases I think you end up with a guy with good stuff but subpar control/command, or you end up with a guy with subpar stuff but good control/command. Can there be guys with both available at #15? Yes, but it's not as if you have a whole lot of them left by then.
  12. According to a JSOnline article, they've also been mentioned as having interest in Garrett Whitley and Nick Plummer.
  13. I don't know what to think about Funkhouser. A month ago I would have been ecstatic about the Brewers drafting him, but now... I'm not sure. He's been on a slump lately. Is he injured? Is he just tired? Will he be the same pitcher as he was a month ago or is there a more serious issue that we may not be aware of? I certainly do hope that the Brewers draft a high-ceiling guy. They really shouldn't be going with "safe" guys at this point. But I fear that a safe, low-ceiling guy may be more appealing to them. Maybe Mark A. is trying to patch up the major league team as quickly as possible (given how badly this season has gone so far) and is aiming for a guy who can get to the majors as quickly as possible instead of just building for the future. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
  14. No way in hell we get either for Lind.
  15. It would be kinda cool if the Brewers somehow managed to draft Funkhouser- partly because of this song:
  16. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Tyrone Taylor 3. Monte Harrison 4. Gilbert Lara 5. Clint Coulter 6. Kodi Medeiros 7. Wei Chung Wang 8. Jacob Gatewood 9. Devin Williams 10. Jorge Lopez 11. Corey Knebel 12. Taylor Williams 13. Taylor Jungmann 14. Marcos Diplan 15. Michael Reed 16. Tyler Wagner 17. Miguel Diaz 18. Tyler Cravy 19. Jed Bradley 20. Victor Roache 21. David Denson 22. David Goforth 23. Jason Rogers 24. Matt Clark 25. Yadiel Rivera
  17. The Brewers may have a chance with Alvarez. Some of the big market teams, like Boston and the Yankees, won't be able to do much this July, which leaves the Brewers in a competitive spot.
  18. I wonder if the Brewers will punt on Moncada and go all in on Alvarez. I think they're still gonna provide an offer to Moncada, but perhaps they won't break their backs trying to outbid teams like the Dodgers and instead try hard for Alvarez, who's expected to be cheaper than Moncada.
  19. I really do hope that if the Brewers fail to sign Moncada, they go all in on Alvarez.
  20. If the Brewers don't end up with Moncada, I wonder if they'll go after Yadiel Alvarez. For those who don't know he's another international guy- an 18 year old who throws 93-96, touches 97, has a plus slider, and a useable changeup, according to Kiley McDaniel.
  21. Well, now that Shields has signed, time to get the mocks rolling!
  22. I'm not as fond of Bickford. Apparently his stuff isn't as good as it was back when he was in high school. According to some reports (I forgot where it's from), in his latest start he was 90-91 with the fastball, which dipped into the upper-80s later into the start. While his stuff was impressive in relief, I think he needs to prove that his stuff is also good as a starter.
  23. According to this mock draft: http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2015-draft/mock-draft The Brewers end up with Kyle Cody at #16 and Demi Orimoloye at #40. I would be thrilled at the Brewers drafting Orimoloye at 40, but as of right now a lot of mocks have him being taken much earlier than that. Cody has a mid-90s fastball that topped out at 97. Seems pretty solid, IMO.
  24. I'm thinking of a similar contract but with the Padres.
