  1. I would think that Hart would bring a better return from the Pirates, but of course Melvin is extremely reluctant to trade him. Ramirez to Pittsburgh isn't a bad idea, though. He's been doing pretty well for a guy on the wrong side of 30. Wonder if Ramirez + Kottaras + Loe would net them Marte and Heredia, or maybe even Ramirez + Hart... Most likely it's a stretch, but a guy can dream!
  2. According to Jim Breen he's 16 and has a fastball that touches 91. He also has a curveball and slider.
  3. What happened to Tyrone Taylor? He hasn't played for the past 2 games and left early for the game before.
  4. No almost about it for me. I told myself before this stretch that unless they went 8-1 or 9-0, I absolutely want them selling. I'm rooting against them to protect the FO from themselves. Same here. I'd prefer it if this team is either winning enough to have a chance at the playoffs, or is losing enough to sell; being in the middle doesn't really have benefits. And since they have a slim chance of getting into the playoffs at this point, I'd rather see the team sell, restock the farm system, and get a high draft pick to add a high-upside player into the minors.
  5. At this point I predict that the recent hot streak will cause Mark A and Melvin to believe that the Brewers will compete and not trade Greinke.
  6. It's still early. I wouldn't judge Gallo too seriously until he sees some higher-level pitching.
  7. Melvin and Mark A better realize the importance of prospects and young guys soon because they can't rely on overpriced veterans forever. They have to stop patching the major league team with overpriced veterans and instead focus on bolstering the farm system with high upside guys. And also they need to take the draft more seriously and not allow the scouting department to be raided every other year. With a frail farm system this team could crumble in the distant future.
  8. Nice to see Tyrone Taylor doing well. He's fast to begin with and to see the bat pairing up with the speed is very encouraging.
  9. According to Buster Olney, if the Brewers decide to sell, Hart will not be available.
  10. As of right now the Brewers would likely have a top 10 pick in next year's draft. I really hope they go for high ceiling guys, not guys who are gonna contribute quickly as #5 starters. No more Jungmann's, no more Arnett's. How about guys like Fernandez, Guerrieri, and Barnes? I lament over how the Brewers went for quick to the major #4 starters in a VERY deep draft in 2011. I hope and I wish they go for a high ceiling guy, even if he would take a while to develop. Yet I have a terrible gut feeling that they are still gonna go with another Jungmann, if they decide to go with pitching. They seem to have an obsession with #3/4 workhorse starters.
  11. That's the thing. They could have had guys with tremendous ceilings, but they settled for a #3/4 starter in Jungmann because he's very tall and is a safe pick.
  12. You're not the only one. I too am disappointed in the scouting department. So far Seid hasn't been successful in the first round of drafts. Arnett has been a disaster, Covet could have neen a disaster, Jungmann and Bradley are okay, but considering that the 2011 draft was extremely deep, it was pretty disappointing. Of course it may be a little too early to question his scouting abilities, but I certainly have my doubts about him.
  13. Pffft, if that's the case, Verlander is no better than a #2 starter.
  14. 1. Jimmy Nelson 2. Tyler Thornburg 3. Jed Bradley 4. Wily Peralta 5. Scooter Gennett 6. Logan Schafer 7. Michael Reed 8. Jorge Lopez 9. Caleb Gindl 10. Taylor Jungmann 11. Yadiel Rivera 12. Kyle Heckathorn 13. Orlando Arcia 14. Hunter Morris 15. Drew Gagnon 16. Nick Bucci 17. Chris McFarland 18. Santo Manzanillo 19. Cody Scarpetta 20. Khris Davis
  15. Soler is expected to sign for a 4 year deal before tomorrow. Bet it's not the Brewers.
  16. Draft bats is fine, but to become totally one-dimensional bothers me. If you are choosing between a high-ceiling pitcher and a lower-ceiling hitter, you draft the pitcher, and vise versa. You don't draft the lower ceiling hitter because the farm system is thin on hitters, and if viewed the other way around, you don't draft the lower ceiling pitcher because the farm system is thin on pitchers. From the supplemental on, there were better players left on the board by the time the Brewers picked, and there were good pitchers left on the board, yet the Brewers kept selecting bats after bats after bats, regardless of whatever talent was left on the board, and some of these bats aren't that good.
  17. How much do you want to bet that the Brewers will spend most or all of their bonus pool? Well I'm not entirely sure that they're being cheap, but considering that there were many better players left on the board earlier in the draft and that Roache, Coulter, Hannigan, and Taylor are likely to sign somewhere around or below slot, I'm wondering if the appeal of saving money had something to do with many of these picks.
  18. While the viewpoint of BPA is debatable, one thing that I've noticed is that Seid is very one-dimensional when it comes to draft. If he feels the need for bats, he'll draft a ton of bats and mostly disregard pitchers, especially high-ceiling HS pitchers (as we've seen on this draft as he passed on Eflin, Weickel, Smoral, Watson, Twomey, and Fairchild entirely). If he feels the need to draft arms, he'll draft a ton of arms and mostly disregard bats. And although I don't know much about signability statuses about each of the picks, IMO it seems like most of these picks are signability picks and if they are, then I doubt they are drafting signability picks for the sake of paying later picks overslot, but rather for the sake of saving money/being cheap).
  19. Some players to look out for in the 2nd round: Nick Williams Trey Williams Alec Rash Kolby Copeland Austin Fairchild Kyle Twomey
  20. The bats are nice and all, and they are all capable of hitting 20+ HR, but I would've liked to see them take chances with some HS pitchers. Overall a solid 1st round. I would give it a B+, close to an A-.
  21. I wonder why Seid is so gung-ho on taking college players. Sure they help out quicker, but HS players provide more upside.
  22. I'm starting to believe the Brewers have something against high-upside HS arm. They've passed on Watson, Eflin, Weickel, and Smoral.
  23. I'm disappointed that the Brewers didn't get Eflin. What do they have against high-ceiling high school pitchers?
  24. Please be Eflin, please be Eflin, please be Eflin, please be Eflin....
  25. According to Draftsite.com, the Brewers take Zach Eflin, Ty Hensley, Shane Watson, and Nick Williams in the first 2 rounds. It's highly unlikely that it'll turn out that way, but if it does, that would be one hell of an expensive draft.
