  1. crap. If Rickie looks like he's in pain, he's probably really hurt, since I've seen him get hit in the face multiple times and from his body language you would think it was a ping pong ball.
  2. If you wanna call 1-13 a deep slump then sure. But he's 16 for his last 52. That's .307. He's not anywhere close to a slump. He was hitting around .350 at the all star break, his BABIP is still a very high .386, he's due for some regression unfortunately. He's been about a .300 hitter most of his years in the majors though so it's not crazy to think he can finish the year around .320 in a good luck season and platooning against good pitching matchups.
  3. Can't blame the defense when we only score 1 run. Win a 1-0 shut out? Not very often, need to score more.
  4. Wilson hitting 2nd is pretty brutal. I don't think there is a much better option, I would just bump everyone up a spot, to do this: Hart Braun Fielder Weeks Lucroy Wilson Betancourt Carroll Gallardo
  5. But these stats tell us nothing about how he is doing with runners on base, or how often he is getting into a hitters count and putting a lifeless fastball right down the middle. Those have been major problems this year, but not in his most recent start.
  6. Some time in the past week or so Yuniesky passed McGehee in WAR, -0.3 and -0.6 respectively. Almost at replacement level Yuni, keep it up!
  7. "I didn't ask to be in this position. Ron didn't want to put me in this position and Ax, he didn't want to be in this position," Rodriguez said. "We never asked to be put in this position, but we have to get together and work together. Hopefully, it will work out in a way that will be good for Ax and me at the same time. They want to win. I want to win. And that's the bottom line." To be honest K-Rod sounds like he is trying to put a positive spin on a situation he doesn't like very much. Good thing it will only be for a few months because I think it can work out fine when he knows it is short term and free agency is coming up. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/a...6&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  8. Or he could just not sugar coat the truth, be straight with his players and tell Yuni and McGehee that if they produce they will play and if they keep doing terrible they will gradually lose at bats. Coddling every player by default is not good.
  9. I agree, right now I'm probably a little more afraid of the Reds. We still have 11 days to the trade deadline and the Reds are more likely to improve with a starting pitcher or SS by then. The Pirates are more likely to stand pat, and less likely to make a move that is good.
  10. I am glad Kottaras starts are starting to line up with a RHP.
  11. I like it. I think mentally Hart will be better starting a rally than trying to capitalize on one. He's struck out a lot of times with 2 outs and men on. Maybe I would bat Nyjer first, but probably not mostly because he can bunt.
  12. oooh Ax no...apparently karma wants us to only have one closer
  13. I would assume that they think running the bases would be too stressful
  14. thru that chain of events, if we have to use Loe instead of K-Rod I'm not sure we win this game
  15. I could live without these innings in between the starting pitcher and the 8th
  16. With no Betancourt or Gomez, our line up is doing a good job of making the pitcher work
  17. Usually I don't buy into this but it looked like Rickie changed his swing a lot in the derby
  18. Can we trade KRod for 2 average LOOGYs? /not sure if blue
  19. Pitcher - ERA Shaun Marcum - 3.39 Randy Wolf - 3.65 Yovani Gallardo - 4.08 Chris Narveson - 4.74 Zack Greinke - 5.45 The first 4 are pretty close to where I would have expected. Marcum has been worth the trade. Wolf has pitched to his contract. Yovani has overall been slightly disappointing, but not a major issue. Narveson has been good in comparison to other #5 pitchers who make less than half a million dollars. Zack Greinke is making ace money and took half our farm system, yet he has been the least productive. If his bad numbers were good numbers, it would vault us from below average to above average as a staff.
  20. 2B Rickie Weeks CF Nyjer Morgan LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart SS Yuniesky Betancourt 3B Craig Counsell C Jonathan Lucroy P Chris Narveson Thanks for benching McGehee, he looks like he's blind trying to track the ball lately, but Counsell's bat can barely get the ball out of the infield these days.
  21. Rockies offense isn't what I thought it was. Tulo, Helton, Smith form a solid 3-4-5 but the other 6 are Betancourt/Gomez level hitters.
  22. Well assuming he is a UFA and not arby eligible good luck negotiating a league minimum contract with him
  23. Player Salary Zack Greinke $13,500,000 Randy Wolf $9,500,000 Corey Hart $9,000,000 Rickie Weeks $10,000,000 Ryan Braun $6,000,000 Yovani Gallardo $5,500,000 Total $53,500,000 That gives us about $35 million to sign or replace these guys, and I'll make an estimate of what they will cost: Player Est. Cost John Axford $5,000,000 Shaun Marcum* $9,000,000 Chris Narveson $3,000,000 Nyjer Morgan* $3,000,000 Carlos Gomez* $2,000,000 Jonathon Lucroy $5,000,000 Total $27,000,000 *arbitration eligable So that would put us at roughly $80M with this to fill: 5 non-closer bullpen arms, 1B, 3B, SS, 5 bench spots. The big assumptions here though are Axford, Lucroy, and Narveson because they all are UFAs, not arbitration eligable as far as I can tell, made less than $500,000 this year, and outperformed it by a lot. If they make those projections, we pretty much have to fill the bullpen, bench, SS, and 3B without spending more than $2M per player. If they make just double what they did in 2011, then we would probably spend $5-8M on a SS.
  24. After a quick glance at the map it looks like there will be some rain but will probably pass through around game time http://www.weather.com/we...ctive/Denver+CO+USCO0105
  25. Simple. If the Mets didn't trade him they would have had to pay him $17.5M next year either through vesting his option or a grievance hearing if they stopped using him as a closer. Why did we get him? The Mets had to trade him to a team that: -wasn't on his 10 team no trade list -had an established closer so the team didn't have to pick up his option next year -preferably wasn't in their division or the Yankees -was a buyer at the trade deadline so that eliminates probably 25 teams or more, and since they wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible to minimize risk of reaching his 55 game option, they probably jumped all over the first offer, and pretty much gave him away.
