  1. Why you're not a baseball GM is beyond me. Such a clear plan, that probably nobody else has tried, to easily win a championship... Details? hah! not needed. Just follow the recipe and miraculously a championship will appear... I'll take this guy seriously when he stops driving the clown car around Brewerfan....
  2. I would imagine this move will tie the Cubs hands for additional moves this year and at the trade deadline. This could very well be the all-in move for the Cubs and the Brewers still have significant room to acquire additional pieces. Given the Cubs history of FA pitching moves this could be good news for the Brewers.
  3. In that case, proceed Brewers, you are on the right path... But why can't the Brewers win EVERY game... /whine The Brewers are now 15-7 against sub .500 teams. That's in the top 5 for MLB. The other teams with better winning % all have at least 5 losses so I guess that's pretty good evidence that good teams lose sometimes to bad teams... the over-reaction to one loss is really getting pathological around here...
  4. Have you read any of the studies of mlb performance related to age? If yes, what is your interpretation? If no, try to educate yourself with a little reading.
  5. For how long? Shaw is 29 this year and the team has 2 more full years of control. He will be in his age 32 season if he signs somewhere as a Free Agent. He is the last player the Brewers should be building a long-term plan for at this point. He is past his prime and given his past history and splits there should be a very short leash on him for the future. He is a perfect candidate today for a platoon role, but unfortunately the Brewers have left handed bats coming out of every orifice so there isn't a candidate to platoon with him at this point. I am 100% sure the Brewers want to see if he can go on a hot streak and approach what he's done in the past, but he is another 60 games of poor production from being an afterthought not a part of the future.
  6. I was very surprised they were comfortable starting the season with Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta in the rotation especially after losing Knebel and having Jeffress shut down. Gio and Miley could both have been had for little money, yet Stearns chose to roll with the status quo and it didn't take long to scramble for bodies and pick up outside options. This was a head scratcher from the beginning.
  7. If you want to blame anyone for this move, blame CC.... I think you'd have a better case blaming global warming...
  8. If they were so worried about Super 2 he wouldn't have come up at all. It wouldn't matter at all if there intention was only to have Keston in the majors while Shaw was on the DL. This could have been their plan all along no matter what the results were at the MLB level. How do we know that the Brewers weren't clear with Keston from the beginning that this was only a temporary promotion? Edit: I believe the new title of the thread is misleading. Shaw was never optioned so he can't be recalled. He simply was activated from the IL.
  9. At least they didn't release Yelich to make room for Shaw...
  10. Bump. I have to believe his current numbers would put him in the top 20% of starting MLB outfielders. If you were going to hate on him when the numbers were bad, time to wear it when he moves back closer to his mean performance. This is where Braun ranks among 73 MLB OF for: fWAR (0.5) = 43/73 (his defense is still a liability) wRC+ (118) = 34/73 wOBA (.350) = 31/73 For those who need help with the math, top 20% would be 14th place and higher... Not quite top 20%, maybe average or slightly above average and all for only $18M... What a deal...
  11. 8 Errors since the end of April and since the posting of his defensive metrics that rank him at best the 9th best defensive shortstop over the last couple years. So the only data left to support him being elite is a Brewers fan's eye test...
  12. Yep. The Raptors played about as good as your gonna see for 36 minutes against this defense. Once they started missing shots, game over as the bucks just accelerated past them. Nothing miraculous like missing none of their shots, just back to being efficient on offense. As pointed out by many and recognized by most basketball analysts with any credibility, the defensive scheme is why the Bucks are so unbeatable. They hold the other team down making them succeed by being lights out from the longest 3's and if the Bucks offense struggles the team is always in striking distance and when the offense turns around the bucks win. They hold the other team down and if the offense is clicking you see 20+ point wins. Only when the bucks can't get going on offense at all and the other team hits there shots the entire game do the Bucks lose. I'll take the over on their approach EVERY time and I'd be ahead 69 to 23. While the Celtics had there issues they just came off of a sweep of the Pacers and were likely playing their best basketball of the year, the Bucks ripped off their head and crapped down their necks... The Raptors won't lose their heads, but they will go down this series with minimally better success than the Celtics.
  13. I wonder if the Cubs went with 3 IF and positioned Schwarber behind the Catcher if there defense would take a hit...
  14. Well, welcome to the real world Dallas, where almost every job has become a "what have you done for me today" judgement on your value not your history. Workers are another commodity to be managed by companies and not a part of the company and now it's becoming part of Baseball. Too bad for the ballplayers, while they have made millions and will continue to make millions, a vast majority of working American's just move from job to job trying to pay bills and feed their families. Tough luck for Dallas...
  15. I think we finally found Clancyphile's birth father...
  16. FIRE the pitching coach!
  17. This game illustrates why I hate the NBA. 16 point lead with 4ish minutes left and it takes 20minutes in real time to finish! How is fouling, free throws and that ******** exciting? How bout when a team is over the limit in fouls, when they commit a foul outside the 3 point line the team gets 3 free throws not 2. Would end this crap at the end of games. All the leading team needs to do is make the FT and it's over. With the BS rules of only 2 FT it creates this crap at the end of the game. BORING!!!!!! WASTE OF TIME!
  18. Not sure why all the angst today over another meltdown from the pitching staff... It's their thing so far and, yes, the brewers are still over 500. These are the kind of starts I expect from Peralta, the really good ones have become the exception. Really when your starter has a pitch repertoire of 94 MPH fastball, 93 MPH fastball and 92 MPH fastball, you aren't getting many COLLEGE players out nevermind MLB players. I would love to hear the brewers thinking with slotting him into a starters role given his limited stuff. Did they really think he was going to be successful? Really? The run differential is concerning, even this few games into the season. While it's nice to say we are still over 500, without an improvement in the pitching (everyone) then our "improved" offense will just lead us to a 500 non-playoff team adrift with several one-year rentals leaving and a useless Braun sucking up money and playing time... Go Bucks!
  19. Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, and the horror genre say hello. .... Those smash hits aren't even on the same cosmic plane as fantasy/hero relative duds. ..... That wasn't what you stated. You stated "There was a time even during my life where could make a movie like the English Patient and net $200mm. That just doesn't happen now." As Robert clearly pointed out that statement wasn't correct. If you want to now state that the largest margins are seen with fantasy movies I don't think you would get much argument.
  20. So...just out of nowhere then?...................................You made up a system in which you put values on players and then said we got negative value based on what you made up. You claim we lost value on the Savage pick because??? I mean honestly...why? Because Mel Kiper said he was supposed to go 10 spots later? No they aren't made up. It took about a second to recognize those values were taken from the Jimmy Johnson valuation model that many (like teams, and media outlets, and professional writers use to judge the value of a specific pick). If you have never seen it just google "2019 NFL Draft Trade Value Chart" and click on the drafttek.com link - they have an interactive tool for highlighting teams that's nice). Where there is vagueness to the approach is where a player is generally thought to be valued/drafted. That information should come from a combination of sources as most of these "draft gurus" miss a ton. While I would love 538 or another respected statistical group evaluate how well each of these do and come up with weighting's for each mock, there is no systematic approach to evaluating the evaluators. Mel Kiper has been doing this since many here were infants, but I haven't seen one piece of data that supports he gets it right more than any joe who is a draft "nerd". This is getting kinda silly. Well we finally have something to agree upon.
  21. Mixed draft so far. Day 1 was very disappointing, while Day 2 was a bounceback. Still hate the Gary pick and the more I read the more I dislike the selection, especially with Wilkins still available. PFF had a revealing article on Gary that really debunks all the scheme and double-team claims that are out their. Gary is a freakesh athlete, but he doesn't translated those skills into results. Maybe Pettine can find the magic elixir, but for a #12, it's a clear D- grade. Given what they gave up to move up for Savage, the Pack should have traded down from #12 to recoup a 4th round or additional 3rd round and picked Gary later or another option. I don't have issues with Savage's potential as he does appear to be the best or top 2 safeties available, but they really paid a premium to get him. So Savage needs to be better than Abram (for example, taken #27 by the Raiders) and two unknown picks in the 4th round. Sure, there's a lot of uncertainty in 4th round picks, but the current defense has 2 key members taken in the 4th (Martinez and Daniels). I think they just gave up too much value. Now if Savage turns out to be a multiple pro-bowl player then it's worth it, if he grades out in top 25% somewhere, maybe, probably not. Grade B for talent/D for value. I really liked both Day 2 selections. Risner and the other decent OTs were off the board by the time the Packers picked at #44 and Jenkins was a logical selection given his production (I believe only 1 sack given up in over 700+ snaps). I like his attitude as he was basically only offered a scholarship at ole miss and he was one of the best C in the SEC during his time. Started ~3 years and I think he's hungry as he's been ignored for a long time while being very very productive. His versatility is really a positive. Everything fell in place in the 3rd round as the best player available was probably Sternberger when the packers picked at #75. His film is really impressive and while his 40 speed isn't great, he plays fast. His blocking is an unknown as all the film I saw they either ran away from him or he appeared to be way out of the play on his blocks, so not clear on his blocking techniques, but he seemed to be wide open downfield all the time. He has the ability to really open the field for Rodgers and give him a reliable target. I got some Jordy Nelson vibes from him. I think he could easily be a major target for Rodgers come the second half of 2019 and will turn out to be a steal at #75. Grades B+ & A for Day 2.
  22. The last time Green Bay picked a safety ahead of Baltimore was Nick Collins. Nobody had him mocked in the 2nd round. Or anywhere close. So all these years we've been trying to win a Super bowl when we should have been trying to be just slightly worse than Baltimore...
  23. So you're a Patriots fan? Or Colts? Because the Packers haven't done anything smart in years...
