  1. Wily Peralta Jr's inability to throw a strike is WAY OLD....
  2. The Brewers offense is 7 batters and 2 pitchers (SP and Arcia). So at most Moose and Goose make up 2/7th of the offense. Their combined OPS isn't really that much better than what we had before to account for the uptick in RPG, but maybe Mouse had some more timely hits... I wasn't against acquiring him, but if Schoop was the only other addition (no upgrade to SP, no upgrade to C) then I would have passed on Schoop, Player of the week or not...
  3. I believe the Las Vegas odds now favor the Brewers winning the World Series once they heard this news...
  4. Do you ever bother to read a thread or do you just come in at the end and make what you think is a pithy comment?
  5. Well, let's see. We've taken on Soria, Moustakas, and Schoop's contracts this year. My only response is to add a signature...
  6. I ain't agin it and I think Stearns has done an excellent job (give a raise to whomever holds his ankles!).... Why can't we at least pass the dumpster once in awhile and shop at friggin Goodwill... I am just tired of other teams getting richer for $5M on a cole Hamels deal or Wilson Ramos for change... Gausman (whom I am not all that fond of) was basically a salary dump by taking on Day's salary... And save the small market economics/payrol for the Mark Attanasio sycophants club... The owners of this team are yearly taking home HUGE profits and while they give a lot of lip service about adding payroll when needed, how come it's NEVER needed!???! We couldn't afford the flyer on Hamels or Ramos? No? Of course I'll be lectured that we have no idea they wanted what Stearns offered! Yep, we don't, we only have an extremely reasonable deal that we couldn't match... AGAIN... And AGAIN... AND AGAIN...
  7. We don't play a single game against our competition for the Wild Card slots so we don't have the benefit of beating our competition like we did in Atlanta last weekend... It's a run to the finish where a streak in either direction could be critical...
  8. However, I find it hilarious that A. the Brewers could've trumped Eloy/Cease and B. that you are calling that a win for the Cubs without context. Unfortunately it's not all a 1-year race discussed in a vacuum here. I never advocated outbidding for Quintana as I didn't think he was as good as the bill... He is in 2018 what he was for the White Sox in 2017... pretty much crap, but he performed very well in 2017 for the Cubs, somewhat like CC in 2008, which is lauded here as the greatest move in the history of baseball, but the Cubs, oh 'they be stoopid'... Hamels has a long history of being a very good pitcher... His home/away splits were typical of the impact of arlington Park, but everyone here thought we are the great brewers, we don't need that has-been... We got a whole butt load of #5 starters so we're fine... The other mind boggling thing about brewerfan.net is the sheer joy of picking someone out of the dumpster and saying "oh DJ will fix him he's the best PC ever...", yet when a vet like Hamels comes along who could benefit from the greatest pitching coach in the Universe, "nope, he's crap, good thing we didn't take him on, LOL...". Yep, only 3 games, but way better than what we've thrown out their and almost as good as Gausman's start against the ****** Brewers offense (see I can discount pitchers performance too...) The poor Brewers performance lately is a smoke and mirrors SP regressing to what they really are and we are out of options to improve the rotation, yet good teams keep adding pitching... Yippeee it's great to be a brewer fan....
  9. Top 3 Reasons: Pitching, Pitching, Hitting. We followed up the luckiest playoff appearance on record in 2008 (Mets record collapse + CC win streak) by replacing him with Braden Looper and a cast of stiffs with the exception of Gallardo... 2010 was another rotation to cry over and more futility. 2011 brought the big 2 acquisitions of Marcum and Greinke and finally there were 4 above average SP... leading to a playoff run... 2012 was the first season without Fielder and a collapse in SP (almost 100 more runs allowed in 2012) that masked an actually improved offense with ARam replacing MinusGhee... 2013 Hart was gone and the SP improvement was offset by huge offensive dropoff and really no batters in the system to replace the big 4/5... So while the offense was good, Melvin couldn't find enough pitching and when the pitching was better the hitters were being shipped out and the offense started to drop leading to mostly futility...
  10. Post of the month!
  11. I'll reply to my own post... Hamels lines so far pitching for the cubs: Date____Opp__IP_H_R_ER_BB_K_HR_ERA__WHIP__BAA Aug-12__WAS__7__1_1__1__1_9__0_1.00_0.83_.177 Aug-6___@KC__6__7_1__1__1_2__0_0.82_1.18_.244 Aug-1__@PIT__5__3_1__0__2_9__0_0.00_1.00_.176 He's up @PIT today helping the Cubs put the Brewers farther and farther in their rear view mirror...
  12. Exactly. Reality is hard to accept when you're a Brewer fan so the typical reaction is to distort reality to fit the narrative. As Jopal indicates this is nowhere near a rebuild and the approach has a lot of similarities to previous failed attempts at being competitive by using prospects to add mediocre/rental vets (I'lll throw out this "except the Yelich trade" so we don't have the 100 posts saying that this 1 trade proves that the other tens of trades when they traded prospects for mediocre/rental vets is somehow irrelevant)... What universe are you talking about. The Brewers were far from 'trading eveyone' in the last (re)build...
  13. The Brewers have been a 0.500 team since the end of May. They will likely limp to the finish line with 85-89 wins. The low end is probably definitely out of the Playoffs and the upper end may not be enough to make the 1 game elimination. This is not a very good team right now. Adding 2 batters at the trade deadline has hardly moved the needle. Not a lot to be happy about (oh we didn't lose 2 in Chicago, Yay!)...
  14. Strawman. check out the "Statistical Analysis" forum for a better understanding of stats that matter... And yet his OPS is still under 0.400. That's the definition of useless..
  15. Doug "Nugget Miner" Melvin tips his cap to David "Dumpster Diver" Stearns...
  16. With the way our pitchers have been protecting leads and with how the Cubs seem to pull out miraculous wins every day I would say 10 is still worrisome I think we need to set a new MLB record and get 37 runs today. That should keep the Cubs from winning...
  17. Yo-Yo Ma? Sure sign him up for the national anthem...
  18. Dozier left the last Dodgers game with dizziness and has a funky EKG. Who doesn't?
  19. You are right. It is so stupid that this continues to be argued about. Standings are presented the way they are for a reason. I'm shocked, shocked, that there are arguments just for the sake of arguments at brewerfan.net.
  20. Look up the stats for Wednesdays, first game back after an off day, or dates ending in "2." You would likely find the same randomness. I really don't even put much weight on home/away splits, much less day/night splits. Sample size way too small to prove it's anything more than random. If Braun's day/night splits are that drastic for his career then it would get my attention. Yep. In my field of work, this happens all the time... when you start subsetting the data you will just capture more non-random noise... For Career, Braun is .906 OPS in day, 0.892 at night....
  21. Talk about a dysfunctional team: Brewers 7 runs on 16 hits Braves 7 runs on 8 hits.... Clown Car Offense.... should be Clown Car Team...
  22. The Brewers are 55-2 when leading after 7 innings with our former All Star closer falling apart. CC is managing the bullpen is just fine. Corrected... Why should the manager get credit for the players doing their job?...
  23. Yes. The Brewers gave up a hell of lot more talent for Moose and Schoop than the Dodgers did to get Dozier. Sure. And Cole Hamels has had 2 excellent starts for the Cubs and in 2008 CC Sabathia went undefeated for the Brewers. Sometimes these things work out and sometimes they don't. **** happens. I would have preferred Dozier, myself, and a SP addition. Then a FA for 2019 at 2B. I can see they didin't think there was a chance that they could upgrade SS or C (Realmuto was too expensive), so a 2B upgrade was necessary by way of getting Moustakas and moving Shaw to 2B. The part that really makes this a bad deadline period was the Schoop trade. Absolutely didn't need him...
