Schoop batted anywhere from #2 to #7 for the Orioles, wouldn't hurt to see him at #6/#7 for a few games until he gets acclimated to the NL...

Maybe I should rephrase the question of this thread... How much of Braun's salary do we pay to get the Dodgers to claim him on waivers?

5-3 West coast trip is still very good... Sure it was 5-1 and we lost the last 2, but the Dodgers are a very good team and to beat them the Brewers need to score when they have opportunities and not give away outs... Didn't work out tonight...

Probably a lot different than South Central Los Angeles.... where the preferred gear is the St.Louis Cardinals... Why? I learnt from my 2+ months of jury duty on a gang murder trial in LA that many of the gangs in LA have a "stone" included in their names like the "Pea stones" or "bitty stones" and that Stoner Love is also a big part of their lingo, making the Cardinals the obvious choice. So, if you are in LA and get lost and notice a lot of St. Louis Cardinal gear, get your butt the heck out of there....

I'm fairly sure the player can still veto. I think this came up in discussions last year with verlander and that he could still veto even if Detroit just wanted to dump him. But I'm not positive. I thought if the team just let the player be claimed on waivers (no trade) that the player could not veto a waiver claim. I think it's only if the Brewers would try to "trade" him through the waiver process that he can say no, but don't know the exact details... So the yearly exercise of placing almost all players on REVOCABLE waivers will begin soon and the media reports of who, *gasp*, were exposed will come... My question is: If the Brewers place Braun on revocable waivers and another team picks him up, should the Brewers let him go? (I don't know the nuts and bolts of the process, so I don't know if a team pulls the player back then can trade him to the claiming team, or if the Brewers would not reclaim him if team X gives them compensation)... This isn't Braun hate, I am interested in the general take on what others think. Braun is owed 2 more years (2019-2020) of salary that there is good indication, he won't be able to "earn". I had hoped that we could get 1.5-2 WAR out of him this year and somewhere between 1-1.5 per year the next 2 years, but that is looking way too optimistic. He is owed $34M for '19-'20 and ~$6M for the remainder of '18. Letting him go would weaken this years team and might effect a deep playoff run, but would the salary relief be better spent on C upgrade and a FA OF with a more cost-effective deal next year. With the addition of Schoop and Moustakis, the offense is better off and might be able to offset a loss of Braun. If the Brewers did let him go or negotiate a trade, would it be good to add another OF such as McCutcheon through a waiver trade? IF, there was a claim by another team on Braun, it's tempting to trade him for the salary relief, but it's a big risk if we don't add back another OF through the same mechanism...

I'd add Archer in that sentance as well... Yep. There's a lot in Archer's metrics that indicate he is not going to be the pitcher he was and is not worth the risk... Could turn out well for the Pirates, but it is a really big gamble, especially when you have to use personnel assets and not just $ to acquire...

Yep. Even while he's regarded as the best in baseball, I don't think we really hear enough about him. He's something ridiculous. It'll be interesting to see how he ages. I hope it's not a fall off the cliff type of thing for him because we are in for something special if he can keep his body together. This is almost the only proof you need of the huge east coast media bias. Trout has run circles around every other player including the much heralded, but far inferior Bryce Harper, but we are constantly hearing about Judge, Harper, and Stanton, while the greatest player ever is an afterthought... Yes, barring an injury, when Trout hangs them up he will be universally regarded as the greatest baseball player ever to have played the game... enjoy him now... -
I'd include Brewers pitching as part of the equation (i.e. Defense). The Brewers starters are 28th in the majors in GB% with Peralta and Anderson as having the lowest GB% followed closely by Guerra... Given Chacin and Miley are both high GB% pitchers, Arcia should start when they are on the mound, but we should consider Schoop for starts at SS when Peralta & Anderson are pitching and possibly Guerra as Arcia's defense is minimized when there aren't many GB... Yep. And our bullpen has a huge K% so the defensive issues are mitigated to a degree there. Actually our Bullpen is 3rd in the majors in GB% so there's a good argument that when the SP comes out, Arcia should be the first defensive substitution (if he isn't already in the lineup) and if Schoop comes in it should be at 2B...

Actually arrieta has been the best. He has been really good. However Chacin sure seems like the second best. If you include salary/contract, I think Mikolas and Chacin are right at the top, while Arrieta takes a hit because of his high salary. Definitely best value for the Chacin/Miley additions... Thank god we didn't get close to the Cobb debacle and the belief he was just 1 pitch away from Cooperstown...
