1. So a Segura bobble head to a brewers fan is like a laser pointer to a cat?
2. Who would you rather have in the dugout? Baker or Roenicke? Gunshot to the head or to the stomache? No thanks. C) Hire a smart ex player or 4) Hire someone smart.
3. The Dodgers are probably now looking to replace Punto ...
4. Amazing how smart organizations make smart decisions and dumb organizations don't. Right now the brewers may have the weakest management in the division and with the state of the roster that doesn't bode well for the future.
5. A change of scenery is just what Mat needs. Tyler may get a chance somewhere, but let's face it teams aren't fighting to pick up brewers castoffs.
6. I doubt Hart gets a multiyear contract from anybody. So he's going to want to sign where he is guaranteed either to start or have a great chance at being the starting 1B. I think to him $ won't matter at all because he needs to play as much as he can next year so he can enter the FA market in 2014 and have a decent shot at a good multiyear deal. If Milwaukee hands him the 1B job I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a 50% cut.
7. Maybe we should just replace parts of the Fan Etiquette with this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a7/Graham%27s_Hierarchy_of_Disagreement1.svg/707px-Graham%27s_Hierarchy_of_Disagreement1.svg.png And just say that we want to keep everything above the 5th line. As much as I love to criticize RR I am tired of every thread breaking down into a RR is an idiot "debate". Back to topic While I love to blame all of the recent struggles by Segura on fatigue, he's been pretty much replacement level for months and the dreams that he might be that "special" 900 OPS shortstop runs counter to his past history and may be just a dream. He's young, cheap, and average or above so that isn't anything to complain about, but he probably ain't special.
8. This just in from Braun HQ.... The next few scheduled dates for Ryan Braun's 2013 I'm just that kinda guy tour (or the how to repair my global image after lying and blaming others when i was caught breaking my employers drug rules) Sept 13-15th @ the Pasadena Humane Society cause who doesn't love a stray pitbull Sept 18-20 @ the 2nd avenue promenade in Santa Monica escorting people across the street Sept 22, 29th @ the LA skid row soup kitchen helping the truly needy get a meal. Sept 24-26th @ the Santa Rosa meals on wheels (delivery boy) Check back in October where more great giving opportunities by Ryan, Cause he's just that kinda guy, including visits to CHLA and CHOC, driving disadvantaged California's to their doctors appointments and more....
9. Everything Braun has done since the suspension reeks of PR moves. This is just another example. I don't find anything wrong with the ESPN questions about his true intentions. While everyone vilified ESPN about there coverage of Braun before he was suspended, in the end they were CORRECT.... You see, ESPN doesn't require their employees to have brewer-goggles embedded in their cerebellum like most brewerfans......
10. Cardinals + cheaters = one of the best franchises in baseball. Brewers + cheaters = still a crappy organization....
11. Pencil in Bronson Arroyo. Doug can't sleep with the anticipation of signing one more washed up vet. But for you naysayers who think it's the same old same old from Dougie, you do realize Arroyo pitches for the Reds, not the Cards! Hah, take that out of the box thinking....
12. "the fans" I searched the Braun statement for a reference to brewers fans or Milwaukee fans or a combination and the only thing I saw was the above quote. In his previous comments he also dances around naming Milwaukee or brewers fans in particular as if his greatness and fanbase is universal. It might not bother anyone else, but it bugs the crap out of me that he can't/doesn't acknowledge the brewers fan base specifically. The revenue from Brewer fans is the majority source for paying his salary. They are the fans of the team he plays for and the city he works for and it really is offensive that he doesn't have the PR sense to play to the home crowd. Only once in 2011 to recover from an injury? Yeah right...
13. On a per year basis. WARP is a counting stat. So when you said career you meant yearly rate stats? Ok.... And of course it was just pure luck that Ichiro was healthy all those years and played complete seasons while weeks rarely plays more than 130 games in a year.... So in those games where Weeks has played and Ichiro has played (roughly 1000 games) then Weeks is as good a hitter, while the other 531 games when their careers have overlapped and Ichiro has played and weeks has been out, they don't matter. Ok...
14. there isn't much you can do with $4M to acquire young talent. Hire the 8 best scouts in baseball. Heck, with $4M you could probably get the best 16. Seriously, the brewers have some of the worst talent evaluators on the planet and leadership that has no clue how to hire good evaluators. Just throw a bunch of money at the best scouts out there and see how many you can get.
15. Interesting note, I would say Ichiro was roughly equivalent to Weeks as a hitter over their careers. WARP of 50.4 compared to 14.6 is roughly equivalent? Ok....
16. There might, might be an argument for stiffer penalties but an automatic lifetime ban is way way over the top. I think the current penalties are fine. The thing I would change is that if you test positive or are linked to PED use then your contract converts from guaranteed to non-guaranteed.
17. Without the Miami New Times MLB doesn't know a damn thing about Biogenesis and the 12 players suspended probably passed several dozen tests. How people (especially Bud) thinks the tests work is absolutely laughable to me. Colon, Grandal and Braun all tested positive. While that isn't all of the players implicated in the Biogenesis probe, it is hardly 'none'. I don't know why MLB doesn't get a clue from the other sports leagues and play the 'game' where the league pretends they have rigorous testing in place and the players move on when they are caught. I don't remember the last NFL player that questioned a PED suspension or a team even commenting. For some reason MLB keeps shining a spotlight on the elephant in the room while everybody else just ignores it.
18. It's really weird to me how A-Rod and Braun are the only awful human beings to many observers, while the other guys are simple cheaters who received a just punishment. And of the current crop of suspendees who are the ones who have been shown to have lied, repeatedly, about PED use. I think for a good number of people, me included, that the getting caught part is minor, it's the way that both of those players handled the allegations that results in the very negative reaction. Arod repeatedly lies until there is a document or witness that counters his claim. Braun has a huge press conference to portray himself as a wronged man blaming everyone but himself. In the end he was a user who got caught. There were a million ways Braun could have handled his arbitration win and he chose to nail himself up on a cross. Petite gets a lot of slack simply because he handled himself in a much better way than clemens or arod. Most of the current group of players are taking their punishments except for 2 that seem to have character issues...
19. Yo to the DL For several nanoseconds I thought we had traded Yo to the Dominican League. Then realization that it was the disabled list and then disappointment.
20. Fyi, the concession stands are packed because of these. Expect to miss an inning or two every time you go up. Another winning strategy for the Brewers.... Get the fans out of their seats for extended periods so they don't realize what a crap team they paid to see.... More beer can't hurt either... Now if they could do something for us fans watching at a distance.... anything to reduce my urge to throw my laptop into my big screen TV.... Heck releasing Yuni would be a start....
21. Dougie can't get enough of any discarded Atlanta third basemen. It's like crack to him.....
22. So Braun's bereavement leave was for his reputation, which was on life support and now it died...
