  1. For those that know the cap rules. The Packers can do changes to Rodgers contract without his approval. What would they gain if they adjusted his contract then traded him after June 1? Anything more than the June 1 savings?
  2. I would have thought that if the Packers had any doubts about the Love selection they would have gone out of their way to extend/renegotiate Rodgers this offseason. We'll see tonight if they move Love as part of a move-up in the draft scenario. I really think they are committed to ending the Rodgers tenure after 2021.
  3. Likely stirred up by a conference rival trying to induce chaos on draft night. My thoughts too.
  4. Now that they have a GM who utilizes all of the tools available to him they don't make many errors on the player personnel side. Where the organization needs some improvement is from Murphy and the leadership. Both McCarthy and Pettine were let go 1 season too late. I don't know how you could go from the debacle in the 2019 NFCCG and keep the brainiac that couldn't scheme to stop a single rushing play by the niners and roll with him. They got what they asked for when Pettine layed another egg in a NFCCG. D'Oh... There is a huge gap between bad organizations that do knee-jerk moves every day and the glacial Packers. You don't have to join the knee jerks, but there's a lot of room to "improve" decision making at the top levels. If Murphy can't get smarter then they need a better CEO.
  5. If he pitches closer to his ERA- moving forward, well, that's why he's eating low leverage innings as the mop up guy. I guess for you 11 outs is "eating" innings, but to me that's another failure to go along with his regular performance. Counsel had to go with Robertson to save his bullpen because the garbage time pitcher couldn't even make it deep enough into the game to save the bullpen. He's 34 YO, hasn't had any real success in MLB and his success has been in AA level talent at an age level that he should be the Cy Young of double A. His repertoire is crap and he couldn't throw decent batting practice for a little league team. Sure, the results haven't been great. His 145 ERA- ranks 113th out of those 119 pitchers. But it could be worse. MadBum has a 166 ERA- since 2020 with 75 million left on his contract. ERA is also not the most predictive indicator over a sample of only 56 innings. Yes and ERA is so noisy under those conditions it's impossible to make a distinction between any of the pitchers at the bottom of that list as a single hit that was ruled an error could move someone from last to 110th place. The only thing you can say is that he is in a small group of the worst starters in baseball to get at least 50 IP over the last year+. Is it "possible" it could be worse. Yes, we saw that yesterday. Why do Brewer fans rush to support the worst players in baseball over and over again making Gollum's fixation with precious seem like a passing fancy. Yuni Betancourt, Arcia and Lindblom. Talk about a group of crap...
  6. I mean they have 5 guys in the pen with an ERA over 6. It hasn't just been Lindblom. ERA is so old school though. I'm sure there's some advanced stat that says they aren't a steaming pile of crap. Damned if I know what it is...
  7. The Problem is what role does he have? If he can't even go more than 3 2/3 innings when he's put in as the mop up guy, what role can he possibly have. We will still need 4 YES FOUR innings out of the pen today even after throwing in the long-man in a game we were behind by 11 (when the decision was made to pull him). The way Lindblom pitches he could go 140-150 pitches and not put a strain on his arm. Jamie Moyer could pitch both games of a double header without breaking a sweat, Lindblom should be able to go a week straight pitching.
  8. Russian Roulette is a great game, 85% of the time you don't die...
  9. I would do it too, but I think what we've seen from the Packers since the drama queen commented on his situation 5 minutes after losing the NFCCG is that the Packers are saying he's the man while their actions have been to keep open the option of moving on from him in 2022. If that's the case they aren't going to be tempted to deal Love.
  10. I guess when they say Jackie Bradley Jr. is a streaky hitter they mean he's a crap hitter who get's lucky a few times a year.
  11. I don't know the number, but I believed it's sponsored by Depends...
  12. And that's what you want from a #8 hitter who gets pitched around and has a sub .200 BA. Let the Pitcher make the last out not the #8 (the anti-Arcia). I'll love him until his next out...
  13. Okay, ignoring the cap issue and the fact that the Packers would only have 1 QB signed. If the trade was Love + GB 4th Rounder for NE Pats #15 would you do it?
  14. Baseball has been selling itself as an entertainment business for YEARS... There is nothing entertaining about the way Keston Hiura plays baseball either in the field or while batting. NOTHING... He's the really bad comedian you roll your eyes at during an open mic session you paid $0. When you pay more than a $1 then you're getting robbed with Hiura's act... Next! He should see Nashville at the first opportunity with McKinney and Vogelbach sharing 1B until they FIX him. Otherwise the baseball gods may just extend our WS Hell for another few years.
  15. Perhaps ... unless they have him pegged for a multi-inning role today as backup for Houser, or they have him slated to start one of the games in Chicago this weekend. I get the idea about reducing the overall innings for the starters, considering last year, by going to a 6-man rotation, but the bullpen is not in any shape right now to go with 6 starters, many of whom can't get past the 5th (lindblom/Houser) or 6th (Peralta) innings. That's a lot of innings of cringe-worthy relief pitching. They might want to just roll with a few Houser/Lindblom tandems until they can find some replacements for Yardley and Rasmussen.
  16. If Tyrone keeps hitting he may end up being traded for a can't hit, so-so defense MI so the Brewers can extend JB2 into his age 37 season...
  17. I bet $100 that most of the posters on Brewerfan don't resemble 90% of the revenue generating fans for the Brewers. As happens often, projecting the brewerfan characteristics across the rest of the brewer fan population is just not accurate. I'm pretty sure the Brewers have more data that drives their plans to have a "name" player that they invest a ton in to both help the team and meet their marketing parameters. I think if they ever win a championship or 2 (stop laughing), they will market the heck out of the players responsible and might be able to get away from having a "face" of the franchise, but at this point THEY are spending their money as if they need one.
  18. Excellent Job Louis! You haven't joined the Feleipe Franks Bandwagon? It's been beaten to death that the Packers draft a year ahead of need, but they've completely ignored the stiffs playing with Kenny Clark. Any chance if Barmore is available that the Packers should take him or consider moving into the low 20's to nab him? Would you move up for him or do you think the needs at CB and OT outweigh their desire to improve the DL. Is McNeil likely to be available at #62? Also, what are the rumors about expanding rosters, etc. given the move to 17 games. Should the Packers consider drafting a QB this year with the possibility that it may be easier to keep a 2nd development QB (or Love's backup come any 2022 purge) with expanded rosters/taxi squad. There are still a ton of Tackles and OL line help available in Free Agency and they haven't done any cap adjustments for either Rodgers/Adams so they could get the OL help that route (for this year) and draft later for OT/C (would they keep EJenk at Center if they can sign some a RT and work out a short-term LT/depth?) I know it's a deep CB class so I can see them trying to get an elite player, but as you stated it's a bad year for DL depth in the draft so it seems if you can land one of the best DL in the draft without giving up a ton is it worth grabbing Barmore then use later rounds to pick CB and OT that are much deeper positions.
  19. Monday was a good example of his problem. Early in the count, when he got a hit, he swings through a fastball down the middle of the plate. His hit came swinging at a pitch 1 foot outside. He ain't no Vlad Guerrero and as long as his contact % on strikes is so abysmal he will continue to strikeout at a pace that makes Jose K look like a contact hitter...
  20. Actually because OPS+ is adjusted there isn't a lot of difference over time. Ignoring pitchers, the numbers going back to the 1950's are within 1-5% for most positions with the biggest outlier 2B who are about 8% different between 1950's and 2000's. So you really could take any slice of OPS+ data as there really isn't a big difference by position over time.
