  1. Hmmmmm.......... a 50-60th ranked prospect for a 5-10th ranked prospect. I don't see why they wouldn't do that. SERIOUSLY GUYS- no one we have gets the d-backs 3rd best pitching prospect, let alone their best. This. And people, Josh Prince is barely a prospect at this point, and certainly doesn't have any trade value. I know it's standard to overvalue your own players but he's had one good AFL.
  2. I also wanted Guerrieri but at the time it's tough to argue him over Bradley. Bradley came out as a big profile-able hard throwing lefty with a ton of potential. Unfortunately he's had injuries and other issues and his status is up in the air as a prospect. The pick that we all cringed at was Jungmann, but he had a pretty solid year in the minors this year after being shut down from so many innings the year prior. Overall none of these guys mentioned(from that list I mean) have made the majors yet, so rankings and such really don't mean that much.
  3. Avoid FA. Just pick up big game James Shields and you have an innings eater who has had good success pitching in the AL East his entire career. Guaranteed a move to NL Central will improve his statistics as well.
  4. This reminds me more of the Astros a few years ago or even the Marlins a few years ago. They would always get really hot at the end of the year and make a ton of ground up in the standings, but all for naught as they would fall a few games short. Hopefully it ends up differently but with this many teams ahead of the crew, plus a relatively tough schedule I'm not sure.
  5. Gallardo Greinke E. Jackson King Felix via trade Roger Clemens WS 2013 BABY
  6. My point was at the moment, next year looks extremely bleak. And Rodon may be the #1 pick right now, but by then he could slip. My guess is he'll be somewhere 1-5 and the Brewers might be there too.
  7. What's sad is the Brewers theoretically could be bad enough next year to get Carlos Rodon again in 2014. Hopefully they perform better than that though.
  8. Marcum's getting older, not old but older. He might be looking for that one big deal while he's still in his prime production years. In that case he wouldn't take a qualifying offer anyways. Now he probably won't get multi year deals (at least not good offers) if he doesn't pitch at least 5 times before the season's over. So we'll see when he comes back how it goes. Overall I think it's worth putting him on a K-Rod one year deal. If it doesn't pay off then it works out just like K-Rod did this year. If it does work out then you have an all-star potential starter on your team.
  9. It's probably been mentioned in the other threads (ie the Brevard Co. thread) but Bradley was shut down for the year with an arm issue. Just fatigued I believe. Edit: Got the link http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/165476626.html
  10. If he has a chance for ROTY and he misses it because they cut him off by 2-4 starts then that's pretty lame. Understandable, but lame.
  11. The main problem with Estrada is how many HR's he gives up. Approaching Bronson Arroyo territory. 16 in 20 APP (14S)
  12. Peralta's younger than Thornburg so I don't think that applies. As far as Rogers goes, I think we'll find out whether he's on the team or not next year depending on the rest of this year. He's going to be starting again tonight against a terrible Astros team so we'll see. I personally think Thornburg and Peralta should be give the last two rotation spots (provided they out perform the competition of course) next year. Get a FA and use Fiers as the 2 or 3. If Rogers performs outstanding the rest of this year and next ST maybe my opinion changes. I just don't see it though.
  13. I understand why you don't want explanations in the actual post but I wish people would add their explanations elsewhere. I personally enjoy opinions on why they chose who they chose.
  14. The Brewers got a decent haul for Greinke considering the Angels very well may not re sign him. That leaves them with absolutely nothing in the deal except a shot at a WS (which we did NOT have with Greinke). We may end up with 3 MLB players, already have one out of it. Even if Hellweg and Pena are BP arms it's still more than the Angels may end up with. Texas wasn't going to give up anything and CWS had nothing to give. ATL apparently was focused on other pitchers and that's about that. Considering the circumstance, DM did well.
  15. People should be optimistic about Bradley and Jungmann, for different reasons. Jungmann is not striking out as many guys because he's developing other pitches in those situations. It's pretty well documented. I'm not worried about it with him, and his primary stuff is probably big league ready. For Bradley, he has tremendous upside and I think he's just working on figuring it out here in his first season of professional ball. He might be dealing with the groin injury still as well. As an aside...I found Jonathan Mayo's top 20 for the Brewers to be interesting. Kentrail Davis #10? Jungmann and Bradley are 3 and 4 (Bradley 3 Jungmann 4) and Nelson is #9. I know it's relatively subjective, especially since he probably cares very little about the Brewers system but those rankings seem out of whack, even though he just updated them after the Greinke trade.
  16. I will say this to comment on the end of the discussion that was in the rumors thread: Olt has legit power and could be a big time slugger in the MLB soon, but he has just as much of a shot as someone like Coulter or Roache do that the Brewers just drafted. Point being neither has played an MLB game yet and it's all wild speculation. Same as it is with the prospects the Brewers did get. Though Segura has a cup of coffee in the majors now.
  17. But I'm also reading that Texas wants an outfielder AND if they trade for Greinke they want another piece that's at least signed past this year to even it out. That was on MLBtraderumors via a Texas beat writer. That coincides with the most recent report from Brewer Nation which is the package he heard was Greinke and Hart for Andrus and Perez. I'd prefer Profar and Grimm in that scenario but the former isn't bad either.
  18. The reason teams are backing down (allegedly) is because the asking price is very high on Greinke. Why would they settle for what the White Sox alone can offer then? Without a 3rd team the CWS don't stand a chance.
  19. To beat a dead horse, here's to hoping it's with Texas. Unless the Braves or Angels want to give up at least 3 prospects.
  20. The other teams want him, but Texas just makes TOO much sense. They have the need, they have the prospects, DM has the connection. We have the belle of the ball and that's what Texas wants.
  21. Huh, I read that the reason the A's held off on the trade was because of 'concerns about a hand injury'. When they did that the Dodger's swooped in and sweetened the deal by offering to pay all of his salary. I agree that the A's normally don't take on salary but who knows if it was the only reason for Beane not pulling the trigger. Would it be worth it to dump Aramis and some of his contract in order to get a better prospect and partial financial flexibility or do they need to trade him and get rid of the entire contract and a lower level prospect? Not saying those are the only options but I'm curious what others think. Slappzilla has become pretty notorious for assuming things lately. Just ignore it.
  22. That's still two years away though. I don't think Melvin is necessarily worried about that much. Maybe one of the Brewers own farmhands will be ready by 2015 if Andrus was unwilling to sign. Maybe he'd become a stud in the NL Central hitter friendly parks and the Crew would trade him for more again? Plus, if they get let's say Perez for including Hart in the deal, is that not worth it? 4+ years of Perez and 2+ years of Andrus for a rental and a year+ of Hart.
  23. He's pretty credible, BUT I believe he only has like one source who works internally with the Brewers, and who knows how privy that guy really is. I don't think he has as many tentacles in the organization as an established beat guy would, but he has one or two that he gets info from. I have to believe Texas really wants Greinke though, and that's prompting Melvin to do whatever possible to get a SS from them. Grimm has been heavily scouted by the Crew-- as indicated by multiple other sources including the Prince of Darkness himself (who rarely posts 'rumor mill' type things), and I wouldn't be surprised if he was expendable to the Rangers. However if the Brewers include Hart (to play 1B) they NEED to get Andrus, and Perez. Hart is far too valuable for Grimm and a RP.
