  1. Covey all but said he was anxious to sign on draft day. I would imagine that the only that's held their side back is the lack of signings to date. I cant imagine them sticking to the #2MM price tag.
  2. Who is talking McGehee? Why would the Brewers trade someone cheap and proven with several years of control left? I think he's among the Brewers least tradable players right now. Gallardo Braun Lucroy Escobar Axford McGehee Braddock Loe (cant recall his contract) ..I'd be shocked if the Brewers moved on any of the above players in the next 2 years.
  3. yes, but right now, nobody is offering any pitching with upside for him. What good would it do the Brewers to get another #4 starter to add to their glut of #4 starters between the majors & minors. The Brewers next year could make a nice run, and then they have to either hope Lawrie or Gamel can play RF and are ready to hit, or they are could be the ones out shopping for another RF come trade deadline next year in a playoff run. If Melvin turns down someone they consider a likely #4, then they really havent lost anything. Better to take your chances with Hart if that is the case. They will have the option of trading Hart both in the offseason and at the deadline next year. If he's having a good year again next year, they could turn him into draft picks with more upside than the guys we've heard of so far.
  4. I like Gamel, but no way he is viewed as top 5 in the organization right now. Considering his terrible offense this year, we are fortunate that the Brewers didnt hand him a position (like Escobar), though they would have if not for McGeheee. Defensively, he doesnt have a position yet either. At age 25, I feel a number of pitching prospects rate higher right now.
  5. thats a good question.. Its possible I may have read it wrong, though I thought I had seen a 98 as well. I know for sure I saw 95 once, but didnt think it worth remembering either
  6. just got back.. have 3 kids under 5, so 2 were getting tired. Odorizzi looked better than the final numbers. He sat at 99 on the notorious stadium gun all 6 innings, and his offspeed stuff was frequently around 76, throwing it for strikes. In the second, he walked a guy and with 2 outs, he gave up a long fly that was very playable, but the LF dropped it. They scored it as his first hit and an earned run, but I didnt see it that way. Come to think of it, there were quite a few drops that inning by the T-Rats. In the third he lost it a bit and started throwing up gopher balls, with all 3 coming in a very short span of pitches that were all line drives over the CF wall. The pitching coach talked to him after the third HR and he was solid the rest of the night. Probably the biggest knock on him was that he was giving up fly balls, though most were pretty shallow. ******************************* Gennett scorched a nice double down the 1b line. The 3-run HR by Davis was a moonshot that barely cleared CF. The first pitch of the game was fouled off and fielded by my 4-year-old as we were about to enter the stadium, giving him his 3rd baseball souvenir in 3 t-rats games. In the bottom of the first D-Vo started things off with a huge triple to CF. Next ball is lined to the pitcher and D-Vo freezes off of 3rd base with no outs and ends up in a rundown. Still that inning, someone knocks a single and I think Morris tries to score from 2B. The RF nailed him by several steps. With 5K+ in attendance, I ended up in the grass, and was nervous about my little ones running around free out there. Just as my wife & I were discussing it, a foul ball hits some lady, and the game was stopped for several minutes. I didnt see it, but I saw them taking her out on a stretcher.
  7. guess ill go watch him
  8. 91-93. Ugh, not again.
  9. I thought the tampering conversation was meant as a joke. Wasnt this guy one of the last ones drafted and now he has a massive injury. I would think the Brewers have dropped all interest, however remote it was, by now... especially given he likely wont play this year. I'm not saying that the Mets would be okay to tamper, but why would they risk tampering on someone like that?
  10. I'd rather have the guy with the boom or bust proposition. We have enough arms in the system to ensure the 3-5 spots will be covered
  11. I figured Cain was under control for a while.. how long does the Crew control him?
  12. yeah, the crew controls gamel for a long time and his value is at a low.. absolutely no reason to sell right now.
  13. yeah, disregard this post.. wasnt thinking.. 2011 is a good year to make a run
  14. I'm not seeing how 2011 isnt going to be our worst year of the next 5. Brewers lose - Corey Hart - Prince Fielder - Rickie Weeks ..if you are going to lose those players, you are not likely to have a better year than 2010. The influx of pitching talent will be really green that year as well. I could see playing for 2010 and 2012, but 2011 makes little sense to me
  15. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EDIT: I was thinking more the Rivas "non injury" injury
  16. this has to be the biggest P50 shakeup ever. First, you get all the draft pickings coming aboard. Then, some of our top prospects have incredibly tanked (Salome, Gamel, Arnett). Finally, you get some former top prospects start to shine (Rogers, Jeffress, Dykstra). It's gonna get pretty crazy. As for Odorizzi, I think he ends up around #3. Lucroy has done nothing to lose his spot and Lawrie is finally starting to shine. I don't see any reason to have anyone jump those 2 yet, much less a guy in A ball. Braddock has slightly underwhelmed me at the MLB level, so I can see those two swapping. I'm thinking: 1 Lucroy 2 Lawrie (but maybe #1?) 3 Odorizzi 4 Braddock 5 Cain 6 Axford 7 Jeffress 8 Gamel 9 Peralta 10 Rivas 11 Heckathorn 12 Covey 13 Gennett 14 Rogers
  17. If Gennett's last name was Lawrie, would he still be in single A?
  18. crazy line for Flores.. 2.1 IP, 0H, 3 BB, 6 Ks
  19. I'm not high on Hart, but the Brewers don't need to rush trading him if they cant get a decent SP prospect. Hart can help this team next over taking a chance on someone like Gamel in RF. There would still be a chance to move him in the offseason and next year if he can continue to hit. And if he continues to hit, he could return some nice prospects.
  20. the problem is that DM gets excited about these marginal types and we end up with a boatload of them. How many pitchers have been on the overall staff the last 3 years? An amazing number. The Crew should have no problem finding 4s and 5s in the minors the next few years. They need to find players that will be no worse than a 3 by next year or an even higher ceiling prospect. Hart could help this team next year and he will net us no worse than a Type B free agent bounty by offseason.
  21. it's not just that they are 10+ games back... its that they are this far behind 2 teams. Both teams will need to suck in the second half, while the Brewers exceed all expectations. Plus, its not like this is the best division in baseball even, that the division winner will be expected to go far. I'd reconsider if they were 7 out of of first and 5 out of second by allstar break, which aint happening
  22. Hardy was damaged goods.. that ship has sailed & good riddance. Cruz has earned a shot at the majors, and Escobar might need a mental break in AAA. But long term, I still want Escobar as the SS unless Cruz blows up.
  23. crazy for jeffress.. finally gives up a run and has yet to surrender his first hit.. maybe he really is off the weed
