  1. Rogers is fine, Braun not so much: Assistant general manager Gord Ash said it was by design that pitching prospect Mark Rogers worked only one inning for Class A Brevard County on Saturday after missing his previous start nice CGSO (7innings) for Burns Edit -- activated link
  2. I wasnt crazy about it then or now. I have a hard time accepting using a #7 overall as one piece of trade bait for a rental. I understand the Cards argument, but that was a veteran team, not a bunch of kids like the Crew had last year. If you're going to go for it with a young team, you need a TON of talent, and I wouldnt mortgage key parts of the future without it. If you have a veteran team, you might be willing to take a final shot at it before you start rebuilding.
  3. BC has put 15 runners on with 2 runs to show for it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  4. I was thinking the same thing.. maybe they were reinforcing his need for better footwork?
  5. thanks, I missed it the first time..
  6. Thanks battlekow for your post on TotalZone.. just thought I'd share the rankings from last year comparing elite prospects. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/4/3/819366/totalzone-on-third-base-prospects Basically it has Gamel as an average defensive third baseman (by major league standards): Mat Gamel made HUGE strides in the field, considering his past two seasons in which he had a -12 and a -23. Scouts still believe his glove is a ways off from being major league ready, but his bat will certainly make room for him somewhere.
  7. Thanks for the find Interesting to see him so far ahead of players like Gillespie. Also interesting to see just how poorly LaPorta rated. Clearly he is a first baseman and the Crew had a logjam.
  8. I'd argue the Top 50 has historically leaned towards the AA/AAA guys, regardless of talent. They don't favor A or lower pitchers because of injuries, and batters because of uncertainty.
  9. I think you missed the fact that he hit for the cycle today! (technically)
  10. uhh, no. Let's say Braun was taken out every fifth game for 2 innings. That would be 1 less inning per 22.5 or about 4%. If Braun got to 4% more balls, he would go from 2.215 to about 2.295.. nowhere near Gamel's 2.878
  11. Gamel is listed with 3 HR. I'm sure they would be quite forgiving if he put up numbers like that (see:, Braun, Ryan)
  12. .. and Gamel with his fourth! Ouch. 12-frame to boot.
  13. Escobar with his third error to catch up to Gamel
  14. just got back from the TRats game.. random thoughts.. Lawrie has a bit of Braun's Miami "swagger". His 2 hits weren't cheapies, they were hard liners towards the gaps. Dykstra is a smurf. He looks like a little kid out there. Didn't show much pop tonight. Showed off a rocket arm in gunning down a runner tagging 3rd from fairly deep center with a perfect strike to home Dykstra isn't the tiniest guy on the team.. SS Marseco can't be a buck-fifty. The pitchers on both sides were throwing some good stuff, but I thought the ump was favoring the visitors. TRats had a hard time finding the strike zone..
  15. I hate these head's ups. I was doing fine without a top 50. Now I'm going to be checking back all day and thinking about it and then its going to get delayed and so I'm thinking about it the next day, and on and on. Just put it out there when it's ready. Okay, rant over. Now let's do our top players 1 Gamel - after the slide last season, had to prove the first half wasnt a fluke and has done so. Still needs work with the glove. 2 Escobar 3 Jeffress - the Brewers are hard up for pitching prospects, so he needs to be here whether or not he deserves it 4 Lawrie - I agree with BA on this one. Has a proven bat and looks like the rest of tools are solid.. might even deserve #3 5 Salome 6 Lucroy 7 Green
  16. I think the org may have had some patience with Braun's errors had it not been for his equally terrible range. I think (hope) that is the difference between Braun and Gamel.
  17. When the Brewers brought up Braun, they REALLY needed his bat in the lineup, and he was absolutely destroying AAA pitching over a good period of time. I'm sure they also were thinking he would progress at third by the end of the year considering he was moved from SS. This lineup isn't "desperate" for a bat. Billy Hall is no worse than serviceable at third. If they rush his glove, you could have a Braun fielding disaster, especially since its primarily mental to begin with. Gamel's defensive liabilities right now might overshadow any bump he could provide over Hall offensively. I don't doubt he could be up by Memorial Day, but I hope it's because he's gotten more comfortable defensively.
  18. Gamel with error #3 to go with his HR.. Braun-esque tonight
  19. In fairness to X (not that he deserves it), many of the scouts who comment on minor leaguers as well as the major minor league publications have almost all made strong comments about Gamel moving as well. So it's definitely been out there on the table for a while now; I just disagree with that thinking.
  20. yeah that is pretty obvious if we bring trade possibilities into the mix. Certainly Prince will be tough to re-sign and the Crew desperately needs pitching. Moving Hart, JJ, Prince, Hall or all of the above are and will continue to be long-term possibilities or even likelihoods. Nelson also provides a potential stopgap at first if they dealt Prince. I'm a little surprised with their lack of pitching and abundance of hitting that nobody was dealt this offseason actually.
  21. I dont see any reason to move him. He's pretty much blocked everywhere and Hall has not proven himself at third. So third is still his best shot this year. Moving him to the OF should be "last resort" as you can always find a decent bat for RF. Give him a shot at sticking at third and keeping his value high. There are others players blocked this year, and so there is no reason to rush anyone. Its just not a good year for graduating prospects. As for his errors, Hall has been out of position or misplayed a couple of balls, leading to hits a couple of times already, like against the SF pitcher. Counsell has 2 errors. These guys are platooning and not looking all that impressive defensively as a whole. Gamel reportedly has enough range, so I'd be patient...
