  1. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Twins) vs Pitching Stats Kenta Maeda: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Twins-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Twins-Brewers
  2. Jon Heyman says it’s not happening: Since there are still some speculating (hoping?) for the universal DH, it’s worth noting now that it’s not happening. MLB and the union couldn’t agree so pitchers will hit again in the NL.
  3. Per Will Sammon: Brewers had a false positive COVID-19 test result earlier today, per David Stearns. They went through entire protocol because, at the time, they didn't know it was a false positive. Player was retested and it came back negative. Expect to have full roster available to play. And Adam McCalvy: The Brewers had a false positive COVID-19 test result come back earlier today, David Stearns said. At the time they didn't know it was a false positive, so the club went through all of the relevant protocols and, "We are now confident it was a false positive," he said.

  5. If it ends up happening I think it’s indication the Brewers front office thought it remained a strong possibility all along since they announced Vogelbach made the team.
  6. It appears there is some increasing hope that the universal DH could be added this evening. From Scott Miller: Yu Darvish, who hates hitting, on the possibility of MLB & players agreeing to universal DH tonight before Darvish has to bat in his Opening Day outing: "I have all the trust that MLB will make that happen."
  7. The Nationals have a player that has tested positive on the eve of tomorrow's opener (Twitter link): The Nationals have a positive COVID-19 test. Mike Rizzo said on zoom, they will "certainly" have to make some roster moves. 5 people have been deemed close contact. They open against the Mets tomorrow night. The positive COVID test is a player. Those 5 other people in close contact will be put into the league's quarantine protocol.

  9. Not sure where else to post about this, but I saw his name ranked high on most people's prospect lists in that thread on here, but I've literally never heard of him.. where did this guy come from? He signed with the Brewers out of Venezuela for $700k back in 2019. He’s just 17-years old (turns 18 next week). He was the youngest player to be included in the 60-man player pool at any MLB team’s alternate site last summer. Ever since he signed his stock has continued to rise even though he has yet to play an official regular season professional game. His dad, Roberto Perez, played for the Brewers very briefly near the end of his MLB career and then he went on to a very successful career playing into his 40’s in Venezuelan professional baseball. Here’s a fun interview he did last Fall if you’re interested: Taxi Squad Talk with Hedbert Perez
  10. FWIW, the Yankees are planning to add Jay Bruce to their roster. Looks like he’ll primarily take the place of Luke Voit at first base for now. Voit has a partial meniscus tear and will have surgery.
  11. I would like to see the Brewers experiment with an opener in front of Houser. The Mets are reportedly experimenting with using Jacob Barnes as an opener for current 5th starter, LHP Joey Lucchesi. I think the Brewers should consider having Brent Suter as an “opener” go first time through the order (or first two innings) with Adrian Houser coming in for the middle innings. This would force opponents to make tough decisions on how to deploy their platoon bats and would hopefully get Houser less matchups versus left handed batters. If Suter kept his pitch count low enough he would still be available for a relief appearance between days Houser pitches. The Brewers are reportedly stretching Drew Rasmussen into a long reliever, so hopefully he can pick up some of the other relief appearances you are potentially losing from Suter.
  12. Hedbert Perez makes a diving catch at the warning track... wow!
  13. Both Hiura and Urias have had some really good plate appearances over the past two weeks. Hopefully that carries over right into the regular season.
  14. Well the White Sox are certainly familiar with Garcia, not sure if that helps or hurts the likelihood they'd be interested in a reunion. Mike Petriello included Avisail Garcia in this Tweet... Is Mike Tauchman a White Sox (Sock?) yet Is Randal Grichuk a White Sox (Sock?) yet Is Avisaíl García a White Sox (Sock?) again yet Is Albert Almora a White Sox (Sock?) yet Is Aristides Aquino a White Sox (Sock?) yet Is Juan Lagares a White Sox (Sock?) yet
  15. Freddy Peralta will begin the season as the 5th starter over Josh Lindblom according to Adam McCalvy: Josh Lindblom will begin the season in the Brewers bullpen. Freddy Peralta gets that final rotation spot. Woodruff Burnes Houser Anderson Peralta
  16. I think Joc Pederson is going to have a very good offensive season for them. No division in baseball has fewer left-handed starting pitchers than the NL Central, and the crossover for inter-league play is against the AL Central which is second lowest. Projected Left-Handed Starting Pitchers by Division AL East - 10 AL West - 9 NL West - 9 NL East - 8 AL Central - 7 NL Central - 5 As far as the wins predictions, it’s so difficult because the top four aren’t separated by all that much on paper. Avoiding injuries to key players will be an important factor as always. I’ll go with the following... Brewers - 86 Reds - 84 Cubs - 84 Cardinals - 82 Pirates - 70
  17. This seems like, at least in part, it's a response to one pitcher who has made it fairly obvious. A Defector article from last September outlines Bauer's spin rate track record: Trevor Bauer Should Just Admit It
  18. A series of tweets from Jeff Passan this morning: MLB's attempts to crack down on foreign substances are outlined in a memo obtained by ESPN. Among the plans: - Increased monitoring by compliance officers - Inspections of baseballs taken out of play that will use a third-party lab to check for substances - Spin-rate analysis Compliance officers will monitor dugouts, clubhouses, tunnels, batting cages and bullpens. They will take a random sample of balls, and the lab will search not just for the substances themselves but the type being utilized. Statcast data will compare spin rate to career norms. The memo, first reported by Joel Sherman says: “Players are subject to discipline by the Commissioner’s Office for violating the Official Baseball Rules regardless of whether evidence of the violation has been discovered during or following a game.” Teams are warned that employees are not allowed to handle foreign substances, tell a pitcher how to mask them or interfere with the collection of game-used balls. MLB has said it wants to crack down. This is a broad-sounding effort whose efficacy will be interesting in practice.
