  1. How bad was Garcia fooled on those 3 straight sliders, yikes.
  2. I’m really glad Gyorko is playing against RHP now.
  3. This is the loudest I’ve ever heard Great American Ballpark except for the strange late inning howling.
  4. Getting two runners in in the 1st was great, but Castillo is now through 2 innings on just 25 pitches. Tough start to the bottom of the 2nd.
  5. If they were to go 5-3 I’m confident they’ll be in the playoffs. There are probably some crazy scenarios that could still keep them out, but it seems like a virtual lock they would be in if they finish 31-29 and have those 5 combined wins against the Reds and Cardinals.
  6. Justin Smoak was DFA’d by the Giants today.
  7. I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball. - Susan Sarandon, Bull Durham, 1988
  8. Haudricourt went on to clarify that these games would only be played if they impacted which team makes the playoffs. If it only impacted seeding within the playoff field they would not be played.
  9. What is the breakdown on when those games are needed? When would they play them? This hasn’t been widely reported has far as I’ve seen, so I am trusting Haudricourt (slightly dangerous) who reported to following last week. Below are some of his many Tweets on this subject (LINK #1, LINK #2): So, had long talk with @dgoold, Cardinals beat writer and possibilities at season's end for that team are fascinating. If they need to make up games vs. Detroit, which definitely could happen, they would play either one or two on Monday, Sept. 28, whatever is necessary. ————————————— If Cardinals don't need to make up those games vs. Detroit, they won't. If they need to make up one, they will. If need to make up both, would play a doubleheader (two seven-inning games). Tigers are scheduled home team but possibly could play in St. Louis. TBD. ————————————— So makeup games on Monday, Sept. 28 between Tigers and Cardinals supposedly are in play, according to my information. Going to be fascinating to see how this all plays out. ————————————— The reason Cardinals and Tigers could play makeups after season in St. Louis is because Detroit finishes in nearby KC. So, would be travel-wise easier. Obviously, Tigers would bat last as "home" team. Everything TBD right now. Hard to imagine those games won't be needed.
  10. The bad news... Over 107 career plate appearances against Luis Castillo the current Brewers hitters have a batting line of: .134 BA / .352 OBP / .202 SLG / .554 OPS The good news... Over 81 career plate appearances against Brandon Woodruff the current Reds hitters have a batting line of: .178 BA / .219 OBP / .294 SLG / .513 OPS
  11. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Reds) vs Pitching Stats Luis Castillo: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  12. That is....amazing. Well apparently that was before Sunday’s hitting stats were factored in because it just got even better!... 2020 Team Batting OPS - UPDATED 1. Brewers (.718 OPS) 2. Reds (.717 OPS) 3. Cubs (.710 OPS) 4. Cardinals (.702 OPS) 5. Pirates (.622 OPS)
  13. With a week to play in the 2020 season the Brewers now have the highest team batting OPS in the NL Central. 2020 Team Batting OPS 1. Brewers (.717 OPS) 2. Cubs (.716 OPS) 3. Reds (.716 OPS) 4. Cardinals (.705 OPS) 5. Pirates (.628 OPS)
  14. With one week to go below are the updated records and remaining opponents (# of games) for the NL teams fighting for the final 4 playoff spots. Marlins (28-25) Opponents: Braves (4), Yankees (3) Cardinals (26-24) Opponents: Royals (3), Brewers (5), Tigers (0 to 2 games depending on need)
 Phillies (27-26) Opponents: Nationals (4), Rays (3) Reds (27-27) Opponents: Brewers (3), Twins (3) Brewers (26-26) Opponents: Reds (3), Cardinals (5) Giants (26-26) Opponents: Rockies (4), Padres (4) Mets (24-29) Opponents: Rays (3), Nationals (4) Rockies (23-29) Opponents: Giants (4), Dbacks (4)
  15. First round games are at home sites of higher ranked seed. Second round and beyond are at the predetermined neutral sites.
  16. It looks tough on paper, but it will be Gray’s first start since coming off the IL with back tightness and Bauer on short rest could be a bit of a wild card (although he seems convinced he’s better on short rest and has said he wants to do if for a full season). The good news is the Reds offense continues to struggle (yes, like the Brewers). I think the Brewers will take at least one, but hopefully they can find a way to take two.
  17. With respect to those odds I suspect that the Brewers are ahead of the Reds because the Reds play the Twins. But are the Twins going to have much motivation next weekend if their playoff position is locked in. I would pick the Reds as the favorite to get the 2nd spot in the central. They don’t have to play 9 games this week like the Brewers and Cardinals do. It’s looking now like just finishing .500 might not be good enough. It might take 2 of 3 against the Reds and 3 of 5 against the Cardinals. The Twins are currently only 0.5 games ahead of the Yankees to host the first round of the playoffs. I hope even if they aren’t in a position to make a run at the AL Central title they would still be able to stay motivated to host the first round of the playoffs at home (versus at Yankee Stadium).
  18. Sort of amazing that if the Pirates manage to beat the Cardinals (currently the Pirates are up 1-0 in 4th), the Brewers, Reds, and Cardinals would all enter this final week at .500 and fighting it out for 2nd place in the NL Central.
  19. I believe that’s the first 4 game winning streak of the Brewers season.
  20. Looks like Hader is coming in to face Hunter Dozier. Dozier represents the possible tying run.
  21. Was hoping they wouldn’t make this one interesting at the end.
  22. It’s sort of unbelievable to think this might be the last time Braun ever plays a baseball game in Milwaukee. It’s difficult to fully grasp the significance of it. One of the very best players in franchise history, it will be strange when he’s no longer part of the organization.
