  1. Just like that, reports of Starling Marte being traded to the Marlins. Per Craig Mish: Marlins are close to acquiring Outfielder Starling Marte from the Arizona Diamondbacks per sources. Also Craig Mish: Jonathan Villar is being removed from the game in New York. Edit: Villar was traded to the Blue Jays.
  2. Per Joel Sherman: AL exec said Diamondbacks are signalling that will not pick up $12.5M option for 2021 on Starling Marte, so best deal by 4pm will get him. As I reported yesterday Yankees Marlins and Twins were seen as most probable destinations. And then he added these clarifying points... Feel like the earlier Marte tweet needs further clarity: Sense was that if Marte was so overtly available when he has a reasonable (for his skill) $12.5M 2021 option, the interpretation is that Az won't pick up the option. Many teams are going to cut payroll after no fan revenue in 2020 and uncertainties about 2021, meaning even reasonable pacts could become harder to keep. If Az feels that way might as well get as much for Marte now then simply not pick up the option after the season. Can always pick up and try to trade in offseason, but that comes with risk. Current Dback administration has done a lot to clean up payroll. But still owe $30M to start with on MadBum and what is left to make Greinke trade happen. So we will see in next 75 mins if getting best for Marte will occur.
  3. I was hoping the Brewers would announce today’s starter by now, but Adam McCalvy is still saying he doesn’t know. Some speculation that it’ll be Eric Lauer.
  4. It certainly does look like the Indians went more for quantity instead of demanding a premium player in return. I don't mean that as a slight to the Indians by any means, they got some talented players. It looks like a combination of players that have lost some of their previous pedigree (Quantrill, Naylor), and others that could/should rise up prospect rankings in the future (Arias, Cantillo).
  5. Padres receive: RHP Mike Clevinger CF Greg Allen Indians receive: RHP Cal Quantrill LF Josh Naylor C Austin Hedges SS Gabriel Arias LHP Joey Cantillo SS Owen Miller
  6. This morning the Brewers were second place in the NL Central. They had a better winning percentage than the Cardinals before today’s games. The second place teams from each division will fill the #4-#6 spots regardless of whether the third place teams in other divisions have better records.
  7. It’s likely Mike Clevinger headed to San Diego.
  8. Padres have apparently made a trade that’s going to be a big splash. Link #1 Link #2
  9. How in the world did they lose that replay? It didn’t even appear that close??
  10. Ken Rosenthal reporting that the Dbacks are open to trading CF Starling Marte. Here are some of his contract details (per Rosenthal)... Marte, batting .322 with an .856 OPS, owed about $1.75M for rest of season with $12.5M club option for 2021.
  11. Busy morning so far on the trade front. The most recent is former Cardinals OF/DH Jose Martinez was traded from the Rays to the Cubs (for two PTBNL). He has a career 153 wRC+ against LHP. In this season with the universal DH, Martinez likely has more value than he would to an NL team during a normal season.
  12. The Padres are about to acquire 1B Mitch Moreland who was mentioned earlier in this thread. He’s been outstanding this season, including a 1.177 OPS through his first 67 plate appearances. Edit: Now official from Jeff Passan... Mitch Moreland has been traded to the San Diego Padres, as Robert Murray reported. Outfielder Jeisson Rosario and third baseman Hudson Potts are headed back to Boston. Padres had an upcoming roster crunch this winter and Boston gets a couple of good prospects back.
  13. The season ends four weeks from today, below are the current playoff matchups.
  14. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Pirates) vs Pitching Stats Steven Brault: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  15. The Brewers, at 15-17, would be the #6 seed in the MLB playoffs if the season ended today. That seems as incredible as an Eric Sogard walk-off home run.
  16. Williams got the win. Yeah, I lost my mind momentarily. Great job by Devin Williams to stop the bleeding and give them a chance.
  17. Wait, weren’t you literally just saying earlier today you would only trade him for Gavin Lux (which isn’t happening)? I'm not giving him away So you’ll only trade him for one very specific player/return, but he must be traded when his value is highest. Got it.
