  1. From MLB Communications: Tonight’s originally scheduled game between the Reds and Brewers at Miller Park in Milwaukee will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 4:10 p.m. (CT).
  2. Per Jeff Passan: The Seattle Mariners will not play tonight's game against the San Diego Padres after Mariners players agreed to postpone it. Tonight’s Dodgers-Giants game has also been postponed.
  3. Per Adam McCalvy: A source tells MLB.com that Brewers and Reds players decided unanimously not to play tonight at Miller Park.
  4. Per Jeff Passan: Following the cancellation of the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds game tonight, more teams are discussing the possibility of not playing, sources tell ESPN. Among those currently discussing it: the Seattle Mariners, who have the most Black players of any team in MLB.
  5. Per Jared Diamond: The Brewers have decided not to play tonight’s game.
  6. Well the Reds still think there’s a game... ...but it does seem very unlikely the Brewers will play tonight. Craig Counsell’s 4:15pm press conference just got moved back to 5:30pm. From Adam McCalvy (at 4:09pm): Brewers players are meeting in 10 minutes to discuss the status of their game against the Reds tonight.
  7. Sogard has an elite ability to make contact, but unfortunately it’s paired with little ability to make hard contact as well as being in the bottom quarter of the league in speed. If he could make slightly harder contact and was in the top quartile of speed he might be David Fletcher, but alas he can’t and he isn’t.
  8. MLB Trade Rumors posted their Top 50 Trade Deadline Candidates yesterday.
  9. Adrian Houser: Batter (Reds) vs Pitching Stats Sonny Gray: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  10. This. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this or not but you guys realize that hader has pitched the equivalent of a no-hitter so far this season right? Yes, he has been incredible so far. I’m just becoming a Devin Williams’ changeup stan. In the post-game presser Counsell just said, “we should never take Josh for granted here”.
  11. The Cubs got blown out by the Tigers, 7-1. The Cardinals are now losing to the Royals, 5-4 in the 8th. Pirates got no hit. Tonight would be a good night for the Brewers to finish off the Reds for a win.
  12. Agree, I thought it was a hit which added to the drama of the moment. Sort of a cinematic type last out of sorts.
  13. I realize Devin Williams is going to give up another earned run at some point this season, but at this moment it’s difficult to imagine.
  14. Orlando Arcia enters this at bat hitting over .400 against Luis Castillo in 22 previous ABs.
  15. Just following on Gameday...what happened? The home plate umpire called Galvis safe initially. He apparently thought Gamel caught the ball in the outfield and didn’t realize it was a force out at home. After Narvaez and Counsell simultaneously screamed at him he changed his call from safe to out (about 10 seconds after the initial call).
  16. What was that call???? Bizarre safe call from the home plate ump. I guess better late than never.
  17. On the replay Gamel came a lot closer to being safe than it appeared live. I think he was out, but he nearly snuck in there.
  18. I’m no Jace Peterson proponent, but he does have 1600+ major league at bats over his career and he crushed the International League last year. That’s something at least. Regarding Ray, that wasn’t necessarily a great draft class, but in any year whiffing on a top-5 pick is a tough blow for an organization.
  19. More from Robert Murray: The Yankees showed interest in Hader in the offseason, per @JonHeyman. The two teams rival executives have mentioned most as the best fits for Hader are the Yankees and Padres. Unclear if they’re among teams to express recent interest.
  20. Yes, I know he originally went away from the golf grip during instructs after the 2015 season, and went back to it in 2018. One thing I think might actually have had a bigger impact on him than the grip is the part they referenced in the article regarding the more aggressive approach. He began to focus on making contact with the ball earlier into its flight path (out in front of the plate). I also think that could be part of the reason he is currently hitting so well against fastballs and breaking balls, but not hitting off-speed pitches. When you gear up to jump on fastballs or get to breaking stuff before it breaks it will seemingly leave you susceptible to being way ahead of changeups.
  21. Barnhart picked that Smoak (foul) ball up in the batters box and it was called an out on the tag?
  22. With Grisham his batting average has been fairly meaningless because he's maintained a good ability to get on-base throughout his professional career. I think long term he'll probably be a .240-.250 batting average type hitter in the majors, but that isn't necessarily a detriment for his type of profile. The part I have trouble fully understanding is Grisham's sudden slugging surge. Prior to last year he was sub-.350 in slugging percentage throughout his first four seasons in the minors. Then last year between Biloxi and San Antonio he slugged over .600. During his stint with the Brewers he slugged a modest .410 over 183 plate appearances (MLB average SLG last year was .435). Now this season in San Diego he's slugging .514. I think he'll maintain fairly high OBP throughout his career, but I am still a bit skeptical he's going to maintain a .500-plus SLG.
