  1. He is in the 78th percentile for sprint speed among hitters this season which is slower than he’s been in the past, but still much faster than the majority of the Brewers’ squad.
  2. This has been a frustrating game. They should absolutely have some sort of lead right now.
  3. He looked safe by a split second on the replay. Counsell must be saving that replay for something good.
  4. This is a great example of a situation where one of Hiura or Yelich must come through.
  5. My mistake then. I thought it clearly didn't hit him at all. Missed that look. It was weird. It obviously hit the dirt first, but on the ricochet it appeared to lightly graze the very top of his shoe on the laces.
  6. Tonight’s Giants-Padres game was just postponed right before it was supposed to start because of a positive COVID test for a Giants player.
  7. For his (short) MLB career Urias has crushed left handed pitching. Just missed a double down the line by inches.
  8. Tough luck out for Hiura, he crushed that ball. According to Statcast that EV+launch angle had an .880 probability (expected batting average) of being a hit.
  9. The Rays tonight became the first team in MLB history to have an all left handed batting lineup (going back to at least 1901).
  10. Regarding Yelich, I think his timing is still off. I’ve seen speculation that maybe his stance/bat load are different from past years, but I don’t know how much truth there is to it. The reason I am not ready to panic is because he’s still scorching the ball when he does make contact. He has a top ten average exit velocity across all hitters in MLB this year, so it’s not like his power has been zapped. I think he really just needs to figure out the timing thing, and it doesn’t seem like that has happened yet.
  11. Despite what Rock suggested that didn’t look like that crazy of a hop or spin on the ball to Urias. I guess it was difficult in the sense it hit the dirt close to him and he tried to field it as it was rising.
  12. Well it was the middle and bottom of the order that did the majority of the damage on Wednesday, might need to be the same today.
  13. Good first inning for Woody. Ian Happ squared him up pretty good, but luckily to the deepest part of the park. I knew Happ was having a good season, but didn’t realize until today that he’s squarely in the conversation as a top 5 NL MVP candidate this year.
  14. Historically the order is set strictly on regular season record. Playoff results have had no bearing on the order, which is sort of dumb, IMO. I was frustrated following the 2017 season when the Twins got the #20 draft selection despite making the playoffs (they drafted Trevor Larnach) and the Brewers missed the playoffs but drafted a spot behind the Twins because they had one more regular season win (they selected Brice Turang). The World Series champion Washington Nationals drafted #22 overall in this past draft.
  15. The commissioner was given approval by both the owners and MLBPA to set this year’s draft order. It was seemingly done in case a full season wasn’t able to be completed. There was speculation that if this season was cut short due to the pandemic they would have added in last year’s records combined with this season for the order. Now that it’s looking likely they’ll get through the regular season I’ll be a little surprised if Manfred goes away from the order being set solely based on this season’s standings.
  16. Binelas was 0-3 against me in my high school career. Were they three rockets off the bat hit right at our infielders? That’s irrelevant. Now I’m just spitballing here, but based strictly on the Head-to-Head high school statistics, maybe I should be the first round pick in this scenario. If the Brewers are looking for a pitcher who topped out at 83-84 at his very best, and currently has a fully torn UCL, I’m their guy. In all seriousness Binelas is a ridiculously good hitter, solid defender, and based on my interactions with him and knowing a few Oak Creek players who played with him, a genuinely good person. That’s great! Here is an interview he did early this week with Prospects Live if you’re interested: A conversation with Alex Binelas (Louisville 3B)
  17. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Jon Lester: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  18. The Cubs started the season 13-3, but have gone just 12-16 in games since August 14th.
  19. David Phelps has given up 5 hits, including 3 home runs, and 3 walks for 5 total earned runs over 4 appearances (just 2.1 innings pitched) since joining the Phillies. Maybe the Phils bullpen woes are contagious.
