  1. In case people didn’t catch this from Ken Rosenthal’s article in The Athletic yesterday: ‘Hello, Christian? It’s the hit king’ Earlier this month, the Brewers’ Christian Yelich received batting tips from none other than Pete Rose. The all-time hit king is a Yelich fan, and he asked a Reds clubhouse attendant to pass his number to the then-slumping former MVP while Cincinnati was visiting Milwaukee. Rose said he told Yelich to back off the plate slightly so he could better handle the ball in and also told him to use the whole field the way he did last season. Yelich declined to discuss the conversation, saying he preferred to keep it private. Rose said, “I watch baseball every day. I wish I could help players every day. I want to watch good players play well.”
  2. I feel like I've read this same exact thought every day for the last two weeks. Are you going to come back and give a little credit where it's due tonight? Offense is looking good, and the "bum" they signed in Anderson is shutting down a very good lineup.
  3. Well, three hits and a walk later, it was probably the right call not to have pulled Hiura in the 1st inning.
  4. Yeah, I’m optimistic about the future of this bullpen knowing guys like Devin Williams and Drew Rasmussen will be included in the mix for the foreseeable future.
  5. Fernando Tatis, Jr. just hit another home run. The kid is just ridiculously talented. Imagine being the White Sox and having traded Tatis for a washed up mid-30s James Shields who had an ERA over 5.00 throughout his 3 years on the South Side.
  6. With that home run Yelich now has an .800+ OPS for the first time this season and a 114 wRC+. Impressive considering how bleak things looked for the first couple of weeks.
  7. The #21-#30 list was released today and Brandon Woodruff is at #28. I think it's safe to say we aren't going to see Hader on the list. I think sveumrules nailed the reasoning, on the whole relievers are undervalued. They are also often the last piece added to a true contending team, so they can be prone to exceeding their perceived "market value" in times when teams get particularly desperate for them (i.e. everyone's favorite Aroldis Chapman / Gleybar Torres example). It is the reason that generally speaking I think top end relievers are valued much higher in-season than they are during the off-season.
  8. Small sample sizes, but the Brewers hitters have 36 ABs against Rich Hill and a combined .231 BA / .238 OBP / .264 SLG / .502 OPS Against Brett Anderson the Twins hitters have 52 ABs and a combined line of .353 BA / .417 OBP / .749 SLG / 1.166 OPS The most good news/bad news results have been Nelson Cruz who is just 4-for-23 against Brett Anderson, but all four of those hits have been home runs.
  9. Brett Anderson: Batter (Twins) vs Pitching Stats Rich Hill: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  10. I mean he got sawed off on the handle on a cutter. It worked, but I don’t think it was necessarily a masterful piece of hitting.
  11. Except his spot is due 3rd... Hmmm...I am confused...I thought putting the DH in the field meant the pitcher had to hit... They put Hader in for Sogard, then Holt in for Hader, then Phelps in for Hiura.
  12. So is Buxton not fast anymore? Seems like he should have made that closer. Edit: He is still in the 99th percentile sprint speed according to Statcast.
  13. Ryan Braun has three strike outs today and looked bad in his last at bat, but I would happily take him being up here with the bases loaded.
  14. I was kind of wondering that. Has he been sitting at 92-93 all season? Coming into tonight he was averaging 94.5 mph on his four seamer. That is 1.0 mph slower than last year’s average of 95.5. Tonight appeared to be down.
  15. Garver? Brewers have lost their DH. If it goes long enough, we may see pitchers hit for both teams. Get Woodruff down to the cage, pronto.
