  1. Adrian Houser: Batter (Pirates) vs Pitching Stats Chad Kuhl: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  2. In other news, the Padres become the first team in MLB history to hit grand slams in four consecutive games.
  3. Well the Brewers gave back their run differential gain from last night...
  4. The good news is the Brewers have the Pirates tomorrow. The bad news is Pirates starter Chad Kuhl has a 3.21 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 11.6 K/9 so far this season.
  5. Good job Smoak. Now I really wish Hiura’s ball would have gotten down for a hit.
  6. Actually it was sort of both. It was a lot of grounders, but he was giving up some hard hit balls tonight. The Sano double was over 115-mph EV, and he gave up three other hits that had over 100 mph EV, including two to the guy making his debut tonight (Jeffers).
  7. It seems like the fake crowd noise is ramped up much louder than normal during this bases loaded situation. Edit: Well I guess it worked... for the Brewers.
  8. This isn’t Brewers related, but thought this point regarding Jesse Winker of the Reds was apropos of the Brewers situation, and how quickly things can (hopefully) change when you’re so few ABs into the season: Joel Luckhaupt: I still can't get over the fact that Jesse Winker had 2 hits in his first 25 AB this season and just 40 plate appearances later he leads MLB in OBP and SLG.
  9. But how about that tag by Pina? Well of course, I just expect that level of exceptional ability from Piña.
  10. Some really nice defense that inning. I guess if you’re have trouble scoring it’s nice to at least keep potential runs off the board defensively.
  11. What a great job by both Holt and Arcia on the relay and put out at home. Huge play to keep this a one run game for now.
  12. I thought it might be a good opportunity to get him going versus a pitcher he’s actually faced in the past, unlike many of the pitchers he’ll face in the NL Central this year. But I guess it’s a case of choose which small sample you want to put more stock in.
  13. I am not at all opposed to Pina serving as the primary catcher, but I am surprised they didn't find a way to get Narvaez in the lineup as the DH today. He is the one player who has faced Berrios in 20+ plate appearances, and he has actually had some moderate success against him. In 22 at bats he's had a .769 OPS, including three doubles, which seems decent relative to how good of a pitcher Berrios has been the past couple of years.
  14. Here we go again. Tonight's Mets-Marlins game has been postponed because someone in the Mets organization has tested positive for COVID.
  15. Sort of surprising to see how badly Berrios has struggled this year with walks given that he’s been one of the better pitchers in baseball the past couple of years and is still only in his mid-20s. Have to assume he’ll turn it around at some point, but hopefully that’s well after the Brewers have left town.
  16. The Twins are 16-9, yet they've scored more than 4 runs just once in their past 10 games (last year they averaged 5.8 runs per game). The concern from their fan base is starting to sound very similar. The shortened season certainly seems to amplify the cause for concern over short samples.
  17. I think you're probably right, they aren't likely to move on from him this season. I know he had the ankle injury before the season started, but to this point he hasn't been able to find any consistent playing time among the current platoons. He has started just 8 games (7 at 3B, 1 at RF) so far, but I guess an argument could be made that he can also provide a valuable defensive replacement. I guess Moreland is probably unlikely unless someone gets injured, but it's nice to daydream about having some hotter bats in this lineup to pair with the outstanding pitching we've enjoyed thus far.
  18. The #11-#20 range was released today, and Yelich ended up right in the middle of it at #15. Today's FanGraphs article linked above touches on the Yelich extension guaranteeing him $200 million. I think if he was still on his old contract his trade value would have remained slightly better on this list.
  19. I am surprised we haven't heard more about Mitch Moreland as a possibility to fill in at 1B and DH this season. He's a left-handed batter. He has a $3 million option for next season ($500K buyout). Over 53 plate appearances this season he's currently batting, .348 BA / .434 OBP / .804 SLG / 1.238 OPS, including 6 home runs. With Logan Morrison out of the mix, and 28-man rosters there may be a spot for him to replace someone like Brock Holt? Moreland could potentially be a huge upgrade to the Brewers lineup versus right handed pitchers.
  20. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Twins) vs Pitching Stats José Berrios: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  21. Despite being at just 11-11 on the season, the Brewers currently sit in the #5 playoff spot in the National League. There are many teams in the NL hovering near the .500 mark. As noted elsewhere, after tonight the Brewers will have played 13 of their first 23 games against 1st place teams (Cubs and Twins).
  22. There’s a pretty significant difference between saying “a naughty word” and using a homophobic slur in a derogatory context.
  23. Brett Anderson in the post game Zoom press conference when asked about Drew Rasmussen... "I don't think you could have two more contrasting styles. ... I was throwing my hot garbage up there for six innings and he comes out throwing upper 90s. It was good contrast. It was fun to watch him."[/i]
