  2. I have not. So far this year stinks, no doubt, but the Brewers are far better off under Stearns leadership than what organizations like the Reds and Pirates have been subject to.
  3. How many bats did Narvaez intentionally break tonight? At least two.
  4. Well, at least they showed a little life at the end tonight. For those bemoaning the farm system, the good news is if the Brewers don’t complete this comeback they’ll have moved into position for a top ten draft selection.
  5. I was a proponent of the Brock Holt signing, but he hasn’t made any solid contact whatsoever in his limited at bats so far.
  6. I agree with you that I actually think Kirilloff is the best future player involved in that trade, and is likely to have the flexibility to fill both a corner OF position as well as 1B for the foreseeable future. Kirilloff is undoubtedly the bat I would really want to acquire for Hader. Another possible 1B/3B solution for Hader is possibly Nolan Jones and Jake Bauers from the Indians, but I have my doubts if they are really in a go for it position. Next year is Lindor’s last under contract, but I think it is just as likely the Indians take a step back for a season by making some “for the future“ type trades as it is they go all in with trades such as acquiring Hader.
  7. 1st inning: I hope they win tonight. 4th inning: I hope they score tonight. 6th inning: I hope they keep it within a grand slam here. 7th inning: I hope they just get a hit tonight.
  8. I think part of the difference is during 162-game grind players wear down, and being able to give them more off days with the ability to replace them with similar production is valuable. That is where the platoon game pays off because aside from facing top pitchers, there are a lot of guys where the handedness platoon advantage can make an incremental difference. Right now there are so few games that the inconsistency of the lineup/at-bats from day-to-day is possibly hurting them more than helping. That’s my theory on the difference between 162 and 60, but I have no way to prove my hypothesis.
  9. The Brewers have the second lowest on-base percentage in the National League (.303 team OBP), ahead of only the Pirates (not including the Cardinals). Urias displayed a good ability to get on-base throughout the minors. This lineup needs to improve OBP, and I think Urias could certainly help them in that regard. They are also second worst in the NL in team slugging (.365). It's no secret, but the pitching has certainly carried them through the first three weeks.
  10. The Red Sox have already deemed themselves sellers... Red Sox trade rumors: Boston has been engaged in talks with other clubs, considers no one ‘untouchable’ ahead of Aug. 31 deadline In addition to the previously mentioned CFs, Mitch Moreland will be a seemingly popular trade target.
  11. I realize they are doing the whole lefty batting platoon versus a right-handed starter thing, but I would much rather see Luis Urias in place of either Sogard or Holt in today’s lineup. I think it’s important he receives consistent at-bats/playing time, and I am not convinced they are going to give him that this season.
  12. Via Kaycee Sogard: "Last night Eric said his team witnessed the immediate aftermath of a horrifying accident involving multiple motorcycles." It appears this is the accident she was referring to: 5 injured after motorcycles, vehicle towing trailer crash on Edens Expressway
  13. Regarding the Reds, this is sort of their “go for it” year, and they appear likely to take a step back in talent unless they really spend again this coming winter. Bauer is a free agent and Castellanos is likely to opt out of his contract. Sonny Gray is under contract one more year. They are desperately in need of better bullpen arms, and part of me hopes they unload a portion of their farm system over the next 2.5 weeks in order to shore up their pen. I think the Reds are going to owe a lot of PTBNLs by the time this trade deadline has passed.
  14. Brett Anderson has always been a ground ball pitcher, but through his first two starts with the Brewers he has a 69.2% ground ball rate compared to just a 19.2% fly ball rate (and 11.5% line drive rate). Brett Anderson seems to stand out as the Brewers pitcher you really need to have a good infield defense setup in order to support. One of the problems the Brewers currently face is Braun has apparently mentioned (to Will Sammon) that his finger infection is affecting his ability to throw the ball more so than swinging a bat. If that wasn’t the case I think tonight would be a good opportunity to put Hiura at DH and role with Urias at 2B.

  16. Let’s just pretend for a moment this trade was on the table. Curious if others would be willing to trade Hader for Josh Bell (under control through 2022 season) and 3B prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes? Why this might be enticing for the Pirates: 1) they are habitually cheap and Bell is about to hit arbitration; 2) Alex Kirilloff is a Pittsburgh native and projected to become a middle of the order hitter. Enlow was a $2 million signing out of the draft 2017 and has the upside of a solid starter. Spoiler: I don’t think the Pirates would make this trade, but curious if others here would be for it.
  17. Agreed. If there was any year to give Urias ABs in every game, this is it. Completely agree regarding Urias. He should be in the lineup nearly everyday for the foreseeable future. He needs major league plate appearances to continue his development as a hitter. At-bats for him are much more important for this team’s future than guys like Sogard, Holt, Gyorko, Healy, etc.
  18. I see CC has now resorted to taking my managerial advice. Who makes more 9th inning appearances this year, Knebel or Gyorko?
  19. This thread has become a bit of tradition the past couple of years (2018 and 2019), and the Brewers have made the playoffs each year ([sarcasm]its worked![/sarcasm]) so here’s a 2020 version to discuss division and playoff races. The Brewers are now a quarter of the way through their season (15 games) and this is what the NL standings as well as playoff field currently look like: Reminder, the projected playoff odds are updated daily here: FanGraphs playoff odds
  20. Sort of curious to see who catches Lauer tonight. Reminder that these were his comments after Narvaez caught his previous start versus the Reds: "I think I was a little cutter-heavy, and that’s not necessarily a pitch that I practice all that often, so I think that was kind of a little miscommunication and I need to be better about communicating with our catchers and making sure that we’re on the same page."
  21. Eric Lauer: Batter (Twins) vs Pitching Stats Kenta Maeda: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  22. As frustrating as the Brewers season has been so far, they currently have a better winning percentage than the following teams considered to be “playoff caliber” coming into the season: Nationals Astros Phillies Diamondbacks Cardinals (yes, I know) Mets Angels
  23. This one goes in the books as Devin Williams’ first MLB win. I know pitcher “wins” don’t really matter, but still happy for a guy who seemed like an afterthought as a prospect at times, his changeup is definitely developing into a weapon.
