  1. Felix Valerio is out of the Biloxi lineup again tonight. He last played for the Shuckers on Wednesday. Any word on a possible reason?
  2. Justin Steele’s performances have gone quickly downhill since his season opening appearance against the Brewers (his game logs are shown below). Hopefully the Crew’s bats fair a little better against him this time around.
  3. After last night’s performance the Brewers jumped from an 80 wRC+ offense (24th in MLB) to a 90 wRC+ offense (19th in MLB) and they are actually the best of the below league average offensive teams. The Astros and Twins are next on the list tied for 17th in MLB and each has a 100 wRC+. So the best of the worst for now, but trending back toward perfectly average.
  4. I just realized the Reds, on the heels of another awful loss, now have a team slugging percentage below .300. That doesn’t even seem possible this far into the season.
  5. It appears they are going to overcome Derek Johnson’s 2018 departure after all.
  6. Throughout his career Kyle Hendricks has pitched against the Brewers more than he has against any other MLB team. In 669 plate appearances against Kyle Hendricks the Brewers hitters have managed a lowly .648 OPS. That’s the worst performance against Hendricks among NL Central division rivals, the others in ascending order are Cardinals (.670 OPS), Pirates (.723 OPS), and Reds (.752 OPS). At AmFam Field specifically the Brewers have a .248 / .290 / .364 slash line against Hendricks.
  7. The Brewers face their longtime arch nemesis Jose Quintana starting just before the noon hour today. As a refresher, here is Quintana’s career line versus the Brewers: Split W L ERA G GS IP H ER HR BB SO HBP WHIP SO9 SO/W Milwaukee Brewers 9 4 2.78 18 17 106.2 79 33 12 28 98 2 1.003 8.3 3.50 Looking at the batter versus pitcher stats, Lorenzo Cain has had more than 100 career plate appearances versus Quintana. It makes sense since their careers have overlapped the same divisions (AL Central and NL Central) during similar periods. I can’t imagine there are many active pitchers Cain has faced more frequently.
  8. Yes, it appears the Pirates have made a change and are now going with Dillion Peters as tonight’s starter.
  9. After one night in Pittsburgh the Brewers team wRC+ went from 75 to 82 moving them from ranking 28th in MLB up to 24th. Willy Adames was the top performer entering the night with an 85 wRC+ and finishing the night with an unbelievable climb to a 130 wRC+ on the season. It would be nice if the Brewers could leave town with a couple more hitters surpassing the league average (100) wRC+ mark. The good news is the Brewers hitters have had some previous success against today’s Pirates starter, Bryce Wilson. In his previous three starts against Milwaukee he has a 6.23 ERA, and Brewers batters have tagged him for a batting line of .300 BA / .357 OBP / .560 SLG for a .917 OPS.
  10. Do we know why Tyler Black was removed mid-game for the Timber Rattlers yesterday? EDIT: Looks like this is the reason…
  11. EDIT: It appears the Pirates made a change this afternoon and will now start LHP Dillon Peters against the Crew. Peters has been fantastic for the Pirates this season, but hasn't thrown more than 43 pitches in an outing to this point.
  12. I think the celebrity softball game with Brauny and Moose messed up his swing. I mean watch how terrible this swing is… https://www.mlb.com/cut4/christian-yelich-can-t-hit-softball-pitches-c302544586
  13. Hey, the Brewers are back to 0 for their season run differential. Why not break into positive territory tomorrow!
  14. If they have to use Hader I won’t even be mad… just really disappointed.
  15. He didn’t exactly accuse him of sign stealing, he said he thought it was strange he was looking away during an at bat causing Darvish to step off the rubber. Cubs blog Bleacher Nation was in the middle of it all, you can read about it here: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2019/11/16/christian-yelich-took-a-swing-at-yu-darvish-on-twitter-with-electronic-assitance-still-whiffed/
  16. Willy Adames increased his wRC+ by 46 points tonight, now at a 131 wRC+ for the season.
  17. Brewers have set their new season high for runs in a game.
  18. An hour to first pitch and the Pirates still haven’t released a lineup. Here is the Brewers lineup…
  19. Pirates are coming off a 4-game series in which they got out scored by the Cubs 29-12 yet they managed to win 3 of the 4 games. Of course much of that was discrepancy can be attributed to Saturday’s 21-0 Cubs victory. After the past couple of nights the Brewers offensive stats have plummeted, they are now batting .201 BA / .275 OBP / .325 SLG on the season with the DH in place. By comparison the Pirates, also a bottom third offense, are hitting .233 / .301 / .347. The Brewers 75 wRC+ as a team ranks 28th in baseball only ahead of the Dbacks (74 wRC+) and Reds (56 wRC+). The Pirates 92 wRC+ ranks 21st.
