  1. Of course at this rate more runs than hits isn’t completely out of the realm of possibilities.
  2. Dakota Hudson’s control looking pretty shaky through 1.5 batters.
  3. Tough break Narvaez couldn’t hold onto the foul tip against Pujols. Edit: Got him anyway.
  4. Cardinals not chasing at anything from Ashby in the 1st inning.
  5. Aaron Ashby makes his first career start against the Cardinals, but has faced them for shorter relief stints three times previously. Aside from giving up a couple of home runs he’s been very good against the red birds in those appearances. 6. Yelich not in the starting lineup. Hiura is batting 4th. Wong is the only LHH starter. They are a Luis Urias away from being able to put out a lineup swinging entirely from the right side.
  7. Tonight is Steven Matz first appearance in Milwaukee since May 3, 2019. He went 5.2 IP and gave up 3 runs on 9 hits (2 home runs) and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts that day. Adrian Houser is making his first start at home this season. Houser had a good season overall last year, but was particularly good at home: Split W L W-L% ERA G GS GF CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP BK WP BF WHIP SO9 SO/W Home 3 3 .500 2.81 15 13 0 1 1 0 73.2 59 28 23 7 32 0 60 5 1 6 303 1.235 7.3 1.88 Away 7 3 .700 3.67 13 13 0 0 0 0 68.2 59 33 28 5 32 0 45 4 0 3 296 1.325 5.9 1.41
  8. The Angels Joe Maddon intentionally walked Corey Seager with the bases loaded despite the fact his team was down by just one run (3-2) before walking Seager to make it 4-2. The Rangers scored two more runs in the inning to make it 6-2.
  9. I’d imagine they’re going to try to get some innings out of José Ureña this evening.
  10. Freddy has zero feel for his off speed pitches and hasn’t been locating his fastball in the upper third of the zone. Unless that changes quickly he won’t be long for this game.
  11. Freddy’s 1st inning struggles with command continue.
  12. One early season positive sign is both Yelich and McCutchen have shown elite chase rates so far (a stat that generally stabilizes fairly quickly). The league average O-Swing% is around 30%, and both are far below that in terms of chasing pitches outside of the zone. Particularly impressive in McCutchen’s case is he’s swung at nearly half the pitches he’s seen this year and yet isn’t swinging at bad pitches.
  13. The Brewers Home Opener and Milwaukee’s 414 Day converge with a 4:14PM CT start time. For those partaking in the festivities and/or tailgating, dress warmly!
  14. Well it hasn’t been a pretty first week on the road, but there are only 7 MLB teams that have more wins than the Brewers do tonight so it wasn’t exactly as damaging as it felt like at times. Hopefully things take a step forward back at AmFam this weekend.
  15. Better late than never for the bats to come alive tonight.
  16. Tough AB from Tyrone when just about anything in play (outside of a pop-up) would’ve scored a run.
  17. What huge hits from both Renfroe and Wong! Please avoid extra innings [or more importantly a loss] tonight.
  18. Orioles manager on tonight’s starter, John Means…
  19. Lineups are now posted up top. Brosseau made the cut, but is batting 8th. Also notable, Keston Hiura is playing second base.
  20. Well at least one Brewers hitter has had some success off of Orioles southpaw John Means. Mike Brosseau is 5-for-11 with 4 home runs against Means for his career. The Brewers-Orioles rubber match is a night game despite the Brewers home opener being scheduled for late afternoon tomorrow. Maybe for the better, however, since the Crew’s record in day games is 1-3 while they are now 1-0 in night games. Last night’s win was the 400th game between the Brewers and Orioles and it “improved” the Brewers all-time record against the Orioles to 170-230. That’s just a 42.5 winning percentage which is the Brewers 4th worst winning percentage against any opponent, but it’s far more games than they’ve played against the 3 teams they’ve performed worse against: Braves (67-93, 41.9%), Dodgers (67-93, 41.9%), Rays (5-7, 41.7%).
