I am going to state the obvious here, but it is truly amazing to me that the only two teams to make moves for premium starters are two of the three teams in the National League that looked like certain “sellers” a few days ago. Following a mostly slow off-season you start to wonder if this is indeed the new normal? I am sure there will still be plenty of trades today, but I also feel like we might be on the precipice of what may become just how baseball front offices operate going forward. Many (most?) teams are run by front offices with a higher level of risk aversion than we’ve seen previously as well seemingly placing a higher valuation on prospects and young controllable talent. We are now less than 8 hours from the 3:00pm CT deadline. In terms of the Brewers specifically, it feels like today carries a lot of significance for the future of the organization. I don’t necessarily mean that they need to make a move, or not make a move, rather that whatever decisions they make today are likely to have ramifications in both the short-term and long-term. I think we will at some point look back at today as one of the defining moments of this current window. I don’t know what the right answer is at this point, but I am very curious to see how today plays out.
