  1. This is a good summary of the Rays prospects that are going to be Rule 5 Draft eligible this off-season (if not added to the Rays 40-man roster): Rays Prospects: 2019 Rule 5 Eligibles Likely to Force Trades They already traded Nick Solak who listed under the “Definitely being added to 40-man roster or traded” category.
  2. I wouldn’t mind taking a chance on RHP Jake Faria. For a second piece maybe LHP Matt Krook or the previously mentioned LHP Colin Poche.
  3. If Ryan Braun (batting 5th) and Keston Hiura (batting 7th) switched spots in tonight’s lineup I would be a lot bigger fan of it.
  4. Zach Davies: Batter (Reds) vs Pitching Stats Tanner Roark: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  5. The Giants are a .500 team with a lot of the credit owed to the strength of their bullpen. It’s easy to dismiss the importance of a good bullpen in the offseason when we’re day dreaming about the batting order, but when you get in the heart of the season a bullpen like the Giants have at their disposal that can shorten games is so crucial to success. A lights out bullpen also seems to go a long way towards winning in the postseason. It is pretty impressive they have such a high performing collection of bullpen arms. I hope the Giants ultimately do decide to sell, because if they don’t the market for available bullpen arms is going to be significantly thinner to go around.
  6. I dunno ... they've had a lot of pretty deflating losses. This turned into a house money game after those improbable Saladino heroics. Yeah, even among comeback games the Wednesday getaway day loss in San Diego was also pretty awful.
  7. So in each of the last two games Jeffress actually threw more pitches than Hader. Why is Hader the one of those two who is unavailable tonight?
  8. Early in the year (April and May) they actually did a nice job coming back from some deficits. It was June and early July that they mostly struggled in that department.
  9. I promise if Jeffress can get a save here I won’t say a single negative thing about the Brewers bullpen for the rest of the week.
  10. As far as utility options go it sounds like the Rangers are listening to offers on super utility Danny Santana who can play some at SS. Santana is having a career year in Texas.
  11. Even if it ends up being nothing (which is more likely than not), this is the exact type of observation this thread was born to house. It’s going to be a fun couple of weeks for those of us that enjoy the rampant trade speculation this time of year. Also, if Dubon does get moved in the near future I believe there has been some connection with the Giants being interested in him.
  12. If the Brewers continue to rattle off wins it’s going to be disappointing if they don’t end up making any meaningful acquisitions at the deadline. Especially after his comments.
  13. & his career ended prematurely due to injury. This is from an interview with Prince Fielder (Link) following his premature retirement... You played 162 games a year four times and missed only 13 games over eight seasons. How much of a toll did that take on your body? PF: ”Obviously, I think this caused my early retirement, but I couldn't do it any other way. Just for the record, I never asked for any of the days off in my career. I fought every one of them. I guess you need days off, but I just didn't want them.” “A lot of people probably say I'm stupid, and they're probably right, because there are people who take days off who are still in the league, and I'm not. But it's easier for me to accept that I can't play anymore because I literally gave it all I got. That allows me to be a little bit more at peace.”
  14. Because our understanding of rest as a preventative measure has evolved over time. Yes, that and the fact that Yelich evidently has a nagging back situation that he manages through.
  15. Smyly pitched the 11th & 16th so it would have been his normal turn tonight. Smyly went 6.0 IP for the Phillies today versus the Pirates. Allowed 1 run on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
  16. Did someone else get hurt besides Thames? I've been following on GameDay off and on today. Besides the Woodruff and Thames injuries? Ryan Braun is out with back tightness. That’s it I believe.
  17. Travis Time. He looked to be in a lot of pain, I’m not sure why he finished the at bat when he was clearly hurting.
  18. Oh never mind, he is just going to pitch around him with the bases loaded to get to Marte.... I’m officially nervous here.
