  1. No, trust me I appreciate the assist! I took it from this standings page, Link.
  2. Yeah, I accidentally copy and pasted the Day game column instead of NL Central inter division standings. I updated my original post as well.
  3. I may be crazy but his swing reminds me of Bagwell. I couldn’t agree more. Jeff Bagwell has been the Hiura swing comp in my mind for the past couple of years. I wouldn’t be shocked if Hiura fills out even more from a strength perspective and has a similar body comp as well. It’s sometimes forgotten this is what Jeff Bagwell looked like at 22 years old... And 23 years old... http://beckett-www.s3.amazonaws.com/news/news-content/uploads/2017/01/1991-Stadium-Club-Jeff-Bagwell-RC1.jpg
  4. Under their previous front office leadership I think anything could have been possible, but I don’t think they would be willing to move Ray for lesser assets in return just so they could move Greinke’s contract.
  5. Here are the NL Central versus NL Central only records for each team so far... Brewers — 24-18 Cubs — 20-17 Cardinals — 17-18 Pirates — 19-23 Reds — 19-23
  6. I found this article interesting: Last 9 champs have all made big trades by Richard Justice It reviews the biggest mid-season trade made by each of the past nine World Series Champions. This passage in particular reminded me of something I had forgotten about the 2017 Astros...
  7. It works out sort of nicely that the Brewers play a four game series against the Diamondbacks starting tomorrow, but won’t face Ray since he’s scheduled to pitch today.
  8. Heading into play today 14 teams in the National League are within 5.5 GB of the Wild Card. Only the Marlins are no doubt sellers at this point. I knew the NL was going to be a dog fight, but with between 65-68 games remaining on everyone’s schedule it is going to be quite the competition for those two Wild Card spots.

  10. It’s hard to believe they have climbed back into the mix of teams with Wild Card aspirations. They’re now tied for third in the NL West (ahead of the Padres and tied with the Rockies) and only 2.0 GB of the Diamondbacks for second place. The Mets have won three in a row. Pretty incredible that we are past mid-July and the only team in the National League with a winning percentage below the .450’s is the Miami Marlins. This would have been the type of year where an August waiver trade period would have come in handy for a lot of teams that will still be trying to assess their chances for playoff contention in two weeks.
  11. Is the Grisham resurrection the most surprising thing to happen this year outside of the Burnes implosion? To me...not really. The talent has always been there. He was a 1st round pick, he's always had the pedigree, he's always been young for his level. Hiura is about a game or two from losing prospect status. To me Grisham is our new #1 prospect. I’ll give you credit, I had begun to write off Grisham. I certainly didn’t see the power surge coming this season. I hope he can play adequate defense in the corners with an occasional fill-in as a center fielder in the majors.
  12. The Brewers are on the verge of completing a blowout win for the first time in quite some time, this is enjoyable.
  13. It seems to be a typical development trajectory for certain starters. Nobody struggled worse at times than Jimmy Nelson before he had his breakout (pre-injury obviously). Woodruff’s path has been very similar to Nelson’s in my opinion.
  14. It’s interesting to see the speculation that Caratini could be used as trade bait, but I don’t think that is likely to come to fruition. It wouldn’t be the first time Joe Maddon has used three catchers, and the fact that both Contreras and Caratini have good bats and the ability to play other positions makes it pretty easy to carry a defensively minded catcher as well. Seeing as Contreras is notably bad at pitch framing, I think this is a sneaky good move for the Cubs that will help out their pitching staff in big spots down the stretch.
  15. Sending Hiura down and keeping him down during the west coast trip where they faced five lefty starters in six games, and then having him remain in the minors after he had pretty clearly cleared the Super Two hurdle remains my top complaint with the front office this season.
  16. I thought a potential Robbie Ray move made a ton of sense this past off-season if a deal could have been made (link). A LHP that has proven to be consistent in a park that plays very similarly to Miller Park. The biggest knock on Ray is he gives up a ton of walks (4.5 per 9 innings over the past three seasons). I do wonder if the Diamondbacks would prioritize guys that could be in their lineup or rotation over the next year such as Freddy Peralta, Trent Grisham, Mauricio Dubon. They have pretty solid infielders, so not sure if Dubon would be a great fit. If the Brewers do make this move I wouldn't hate them trying to work LHRP Andrew Chafin into the deal as well. Like Ray, Chafin is also under contract through next season.
  17. From Ken Rosenthal's article yesterday for The Athletic, Twelve burning questions for the MLB trade deadline...

  19. Well that would guarantee the Brewers win at least 13 more times this season and they’d finish ahead of the Cubs.
  20. LHP Mike Montgomery is the return to the Royals. The Royals had originally drafted Montgomery in the 1st round back in 2008. The recently turned 30 year old was in the midst of a rough season for the Cubs. Also, the Cubs starting catcher Willson Contreras is headed to the Injured List with a strain in his right foot.
  21. Former Brewers catcher Martín Maldonado has been traded to the Cubs per Ken Rosenthal...
  22. For those who are Twitter-less, it’s from Ken Rosenthal: “The #Royals have pulled Martin Maldonado from their game. Have been working on a trade. Team not yet known”
