  1. It will be interesting to see what they ultimately do with Devin Williams. He has to be put on the 40-man roster this off-season in order to be protected from the Rule 5 draft. Typically those type of players are prime candidates to be traded, but there is also a chance they have plans to give him a shot in the bullpen at some point in the near future. The Athletic did an article Sunday on the 8 participants in the MLB Futures Game that were most likely to be traded this month. It included Devin Williams. A couple of snippets from that article: “Williams wasn’t on too many people’s radar when the season started, but after a tremendous first half, scouts from opposing teams are raving about him and think he’ll pitch in the big leagues this year”.... “Now he’s back, with an overpowering fastball and nasty breaking ball. If his command and control arrive, he could end up being a huge surprise, and he’s definitely a prospect worth taking a chance on at this year’s trade deadline.” So certainly a possibility as a trade chip, but also someone the Brewers might believe can be part of their bullpen either later this year or by next year.
  2. The All Star Game thread available at this link... 2019 All Star Game (07-09-19): NL (Ryu) at AL (Verlander) 6:30 PM CDT

  4. After taking a closer look, I think the lack of an ability to do August waiver trades this year is going to limit the possibility that the Brewers are sellers in any capacity. They only have 17 games remaining before the July trade deadline (afternoon of July 31). Anything short of going something like 5-12 or worse over those 17 games likely means the Brewers will be close enough to playoff contention that they won’t consider trading even the players on expiring contracts.
  5. The Twins front office is now led by Derek Falvey. The Twins have done a masterful job building a competitive roster since his hire in the Fall of 2016. Falvey and Stearns were with the Cleveland Indians at the same time in 2012 (they were co-directors of baseball operations), with Stearns reportedly focused on player contracts, data analysis, and strategy, while Falvey worked on player acquisitions. During 2015-2016 Falvey was the Indians Asst. GM, which included pulling off the Andrew Miller trade at the deadline in 2016 (trading away Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller, and J.P. Feyereisen) on their way to playing in the World Series. That was the same July that the Brewers and Indians came to terms on a Jonathan Lucroy deal that was ultimately nixed by Lucroy. I wouldn’t completely count out the Twins as a team that may make some big trade headlines at some point. They have the prospect inventory to do it, and if Falvey and company believe they have a legitimate chance to play for the World Series than they may be incentivized to make a big splash. Regarding the Dodgers (mentioned earlier), one player I would love to pry from them is Wisconsin native SS Gavin Lux. He seems on the path to becoming a star and is likely only a year away from making his major league debut.
  6. Forgot to mention the anniversary of the Sabathia trade today. Credit to Doug Melvin for making such a big move in early July. July 7, 2008 Traded a player to be named later, Rob Bryson (minors), Zach Jackson and Matt LaPorta to the Cleveland Indians. Received CC Sabathia. The Milwaukee Brewers sent Michael Brantley (October 3, 2008) to the Cleveland Indians to complete the trade.
  7. The idea of acquiring Andrew Cashner is starting to grow on me.
  8. This qualifies as optimism how? Maybe suggesting an improved MLB Draft position while still being on the brink of the division lead? They’re really threading the needle here to get the best possible balance in value between the two.
  9. It was posted online last week before being pulled. It didn’t suggest they had any type of inside knowledge whatsoever, they were speculating on reasons why young people can pass away. It was very reckless as well as bizarrely worded/written.
  10. This one really stinks. Unfortunately a second consecutive year of spending the All-Star break not feeling so great about Brewers baseball.
  11. Did he pull his foot from the bag?? Edit: Doesn’t look like it.
  12. It had already been raining steady at that point for a while. It was pretty inevitable the game was going to get halted. Getting an ab for Anderson's spot wasn't a bad call. (Imo) I also thought it was more about trying to anticipate the rain delay and getting a pinch hitter into Anderson’s spot (which was Arcia).
  13. Due up for the Brewers in the 9th inning versus Vazquez... 1) Saladino 2) Pinch Hitter (Yelich?) 3) Cain ———————— 4) Moustakas 5) Grandal 6) Hiura If they can get to Grandal’s spot in the order hopefully it means they have a chance to tie or take the lead.
  14. If nothing else comes from it, at least Dubon is working Vazquez’s pitch count up.
  15. I don’t think Vazquez needs the extra help from the umpire getting calls below the zone.
  16. Other then maybe JJ( not throwing great either) not sure who the good options are that are available and rested. Burnes used.....Peralta used yesterday.....our soft tossing lefty used In a tie game in the 7th we really don't have any good options......nobody who was available has been pitching well.....and Hader isn't a guy who would be used to start the 7th in a tie game especially with a bad back.
  17. After the just missed 2-run HR in the 1st inning it is going to be tough to stomach if they lose this game by one run.
  18. I think if they had the 7th to do over again Matt Albers would have been the button to push. He only threw 14 pitches on Friday.
  19. I am surprised after watching Junior Guerra struggle with location and command on the same mound Friday night they were willing to throw him right back out there against this part of the lineup in a tie game. Seems baffling to me.
  20. It’s going to be really disappointing if the Pirates immediately take back the lead, especially if it is due in part to walks.
  21. Jesús Aguilar’s home runs broken down by ballpark this year... PNC Park = 4 home runs Miller Park = 3 home runs All other ballparks = 1 home run (at Oracle Park in SF)
  22. Cool photo in the rain from Aguilar’s first home run earlier... Note: The higher resolution photo available here: PHOTO LINK or TWITTER LINK
  23. Really happy for Jesús (and the Brewers fan base) that he seems to be swinging with confidence again. I am surprised Hurdle brought Musgrove back out after the rain delay. I don’t think most managers would do that after a guy hadn’t thrown a pitch in nearly an hour. Not saying that was why the Brewers got to him in the 7th, just surprised they did it.
  24. I think anyone hoping this team’s roster is going to look significantly different by the end of the All-Star break is setting themselves up for disappointment. They’ll make moves this month, but I would doubt many (if any) occur by this Friday.
