  1. Didn't see this article posted yet... Yasmani Grandal Is Better Than This by Jeff Sullivan of FanGraphs.
  2. Just to clarify, any potential work stoppage wouldn’t occur until after the 2021 season when the current collective bargaining agreement expires.
  3. Yeah, the start of the season is going to be a bloodbath. The breakdown of games per opponent over that stretch to start the season (opponents from start of the season through May 26th): vs. Cardinals (10 games) vs. Reds (5 games) vs. Cubs (6 games) vs. Angels (3 games) vs. Dodgers (7 games) vs. Mets (6 games) vs. Rockies (4 games) vs. Nationals (3 games) vs. Phillies (7 games) vs. Braves (3 games)
  4. Grandal’s spray chart overlayed at Miller Park (per this Tweet). Also a comparison between Yasmani Grandal and the Brewers catchers in 2018 (per this Tweet): Grandal '18: 518 PA / 24 HR / .225 ISO / .352 wOBA / 125 wRC+ / 9.0 Def Brewers C '18: 651 PA / 16 HR / .125 ISO / .286 wOBA / 75 wRC+ / 14.5 Def
  5. Yasmani Grandal’s career stats at Miller Park... [pre]G GS PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 16 12 60 54 7 16 2 0 4 15 6 18 .296 .367 .556 .922[/pre]
  6. The lineup looks really solid... Cain ® Yelich (L) Braun ® Shaw (L) Aguilar ® Grandal (S) Second Base (TBD) Arcia ®
  7. Lowrie makes so much sense. When Hiura is up, Lowrie can play 3rd against lefties and 2nd against tough righties. Versatility, etc , etc Adding Lowrie would be another switch hitter that mashes right handed pitching. The lineup would be deadly against righties which is obviously the majority of starters they are going to face in the NL Central with the exception of the Cubs. Here is how the projected rotation of initial out getters for the NL Central opponents currently stack up as far as righty/lefty... Cardinals - 5 RHP / 0 LHP Pirates - 5 RHP / 0 LHP Reds - 4 RHP / 1 LHP Cubs - 2 RHP / 3 LHP
  8. Interesting angle from Eno Sarris of The Athletic... “Odds of work stoppage rose with the Grandal deal, should’ve been one of the four or five biggest deals on the market this year.” I don’t disagree with him. As the past two off-seasons have progressed it seems more likely than ever a work stoppage is going to occur in off-season prior to the 2022 season.
  9. For those not thrilled about about the win projections generated by Steamer (hosted on FanGraphs) the good news is the Brewers just added a catcher that Steamer projects for 3.5 WAR next season.
  10. A switch hitting catcher that is good both offensively and defensively will make this roster much better. Having Yelich, Shaw, and Grandal offers three potent lefties to stick into the lineup versus right-handers.
  11. love this, but if they have to give up a pick it sours it. I’d assume DS wouldn’t surrender a pick for a one year deal though.I believe the Brewers will lose their third highest pick for signing Grandal.
  12. I think Miller Park is going to be a perfect setting for Grandal’s power from the left side.
  13. Woah Solvdd! Looks like 16% of the crowd got their man. Going to lock it down now.
  14. This is the one FA deal I really wanted to happen. This makes the Brewers lineup a lot better in my opinion.
  15. Per Ken Rosenthal... Rosenthal followed up by also saying the deal is pending a physical.
  16. Fangraphs Kiley McDaniel when asked on his chat earlier today...
  17. The Brewers are really into former White Sox relievers (Swarzak, Soria, Albers, Jennings, Cedeño, and now Petricka)... it’s a little creepy.
  18. Which it looks like is tied with the Mets for the 6th highest over/under in the NL, behind the Dodgers, Cubs, Nationals, Cardinals, and Braves...
  19. To be clear, I wasn’t asserting that it should be a reason to write off Dozier as a 2B option, I was just pointing out in that one specific scenario it was a silly thing to be upset about. In regards to what extent Brian Dozier is, or isn’t, a baseball gentleman and a fine teammate... I have no idea.
  20. If the acquisition cost was going to be in the same ballpark and I had a choice between adding one year of Madison Bumgarner versus two years of Robbie Ray I would choose Ray. Robbie Ray has had his own velocity drop, but was back closer to his norms by the end of last season.
  21. It wasn’t a no hitter, the Orioles already had a hit in the game at that point. The Twins shifted Sisco in a one hit shutout and then were upset when Sisco bunted against the shift to get on base. If it was a no hitter, fine get upset. It wasn’t, they were literally upset about him trying to get on base with a bunt (did I mention AGAINST THE SHIFT) in a non-no hitter situation. That is about as silly as the unwritten rules can get.
  22. I agree with the point that I think it’s more likely Ray will ultimately be used as a trade chip as opposed to becoming an every day player for the Brewers in the next couple of seasons. He’s now 24, so pretty close to entering his peak seasons without a clear path to MLB playing time in the near future.
  23. Clay Davenport’s 2019 projection for Tyrone Taylor (LINK) at the MLB level includes 17 HRs in 463 at bats (obviously it’s doubtful he would get that many ABs). It has his defense as a bit below average in center, but above average on the corners. Completely random note, one of his top comparable players listed is current Brewers VP & Special Asst. to the GM, Ray Montgomery.
  24. It’s probably worth noting in this thread that according to the Fangraphs prospect write-up for Korry Howell, “several scouts think he ends up in center field.”
  25. From Fangraphs prospect writer Eric Longenhagen: Mets Trade Three Prospects for Keon Broxton’s Defense As noted at the end of the article, all three players acquired have been added to the Fangraphs Brewers prospect rankings page (LINK). Also an interesting note in the article that the Brewers weren’t the first team to ask about Valerio in trade talks.
