  1. My favorite season series outlier this year is that the Reds have gone 6-1 against the Dodgers.
  2. Earlier this season Counsell was wearing a blue wristband that said, “We’ve Got This”. A long shot, but my dart throw is that will be their postseason slogan.
  3. For those that like to plan ahead, here are the currently scheduled dates that would be played at Miller Park assuming the Brewers end up with the #1 Wild Card spot and keep advancing from there... NL Wild Card Tuesday, October 2nd NLDS Sunday, October 7th Monday, October 8th (if necessary) NLCS Monday, October 15th Tuesday, October 16th Wednesday, October 17th (if necessary) World Series Friday, October 26th Saturday, October 27th Sunday, October 28th (if necessary)
  4. I agree that is typically the case, but these may be slightly more organic than in the past. The "Do Damage" phrase was used by Alex Cora in his introductory press conference. Also, Brian Cashman was quoted in late July as saying... “You wonder what their [Red Sox] record would be if they weren’t playing us,” Cashman said, via MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. “Because when we go head to head, we do some damage against them and it doesn’t seem like anybody else is capable.” Maybe those things are coincidence, and maybe not.

  6. Maybe not a dodged bullet in the sense that some of the others were, but Jake Arrieta has struggled down the stretch. I thought this was a good recap of Arrieta’s season from John Stolnis of the Phillies SB Nation site, The Good Phight: Was the Jake Arrieta signing bad for the Phillies?.
  7. As teams are clinching their playoff spots the team specific apparel with a Postseason slogan is being unveiled (and sold). I thought in the past teams all had the same slogan (maybe I’m wrong), but it appears this year they are different (based on a sample size of two). The teams are also using the sayings as their Postseason hashtags on social media. I don’t want jinx anything, but I am curious to see the Brewers Postseason slogan.
  8. I believe the connection is that they workout at the same gym (along with Clay Matthews), but I got a kick out of Baker Mayfield sporting an autographed “YELI” jersey as he walked from the bus to the locker room for Thursday night football. Edit: After the game in which he made his first career appearance and led the Browns to a comeback win, Baker Mayfield finished his post-game press conference with a “Christian Yelich for NL MVP” mic drop, Twitter Link.
  9. Some magic number housekeeping, is this the magic number for a playoff spot or for the first (home) wild card spot? Looks like the magic number for a playoff spot is at 5 (Link).
  10. Obviously I want the Wild Card game played at Miller Park for a variety of reasons, but I was surprised today when I looked at previous National League Wild Card games that the road team is 4-2, including three straight wins from 2014-1016 in which the road team outscored the home team by a combined 15-0. American League Wild Card games are split between the home and road teams at 3 wins apiece.
  11. The Brewers have Chacín lined up to pitch the Wild Card, but an off day next week Thursday makes it a little more curious what they will actually do. Does he pitch next Wednesday after just three days rest, or pitch the following Friday and then pitch the Wild Card game on just 3 days rest? Looking at the current pitching rotation schedules for other possible Wild Card contenders the starters currently lined up to possibly pitch in the Wild Card game appear to be... Brewers: Jhoulys Chacín, Zach Davies, Gio Gonzalez Cardinals: Jack Flaherty, John Gant, Adam Wainwright Dodgers: Walker Buehler, Rich Hill, Ross Stripling Rockies: Kyle Freeland, German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela Obviously teams could try to manipulate their rotations still, but for teams still fighting for a playoff spot it might be a difficult decision to jockey around their top starters at this point.

  13. jinx amazing we just posted almost the exact same thing at the exact same time. I was thinking this exact same thing as well. I don’t think Broxton should have been the first option when offensive production is clearly a need in this game currently.
  14. I hope this Shaw injury (HBP to the knee) isn’t as bad as it looks like right now. Edit: Apparently he is going to stay in the game? Wow, okay.
  15. I feel like Curtis Granderson really understands and embraces his role on this team. He has done a nice job working his way on-base at the top of the order.
  16. I agree that you have to try to do what you can to claw your way to the division championship, but it is one of those cases where not being put in this situation (i.e. the Cubs clinching the division prior to the final day of the season) may end up being a blessing in disguise versus this scenario. There is so much that has to go right (both outcomes on Sunday with Brewers win/Cubs loss followed by beating the Cubs in Wrigley on Monday. If any of those things go the wrong way you have likely put yourself at a disadvantage heading into the Wild Card game.
  17. If the Cubs finish 6-6 they will get to 94 wins. For the Brewers to get to 94 wins they will need to finish 8-3. I think both are certainly possible, but I don’t think it is likely the Cubs do much worse or the Brewers doing much better than those finishes. If both teams finish with identical records to tie for the N.L. Central championship it is my understanding they would play a game 163 on the Monday (Oct. 1) at Wrigley Field to determine who moves on to the Division Series (with the loser going to the WC), correct?
  18. The 2018 Brewers have tied the 2017 Brewers win total (86) with 11 games to play.

  20. Down 9-6 in the bottom of the 8th, the Braves had the bases loaded with Freddie Freeman at bat. Unfortunately he struck out. The Cardinals have since tacked on two more.
  21. I think Woodruff is a prime candidate to have a Jimmy Nelson type leap forward at some point down the road in his development. The biggest question is whether the Brewers will be in a position to be patient enough for it to payoff as a solid future starter.
  22. [sarcasm]Hopefully this finally settles the Christian Yelich vs. Geoff Jenkins debate![/sarcasm] I am just kidding, and not trying to offend anyone. Yelich is like a gift from the baseball heavens.
  23. I agree with this. While I like the idea of San Antonio as a city, it seems like the stadium situation would border on what the Brewers experienced in Nashville in terms of antiquated facilities. Right now San Antonio is a long way from any plans for a new ballpark, and by time it gets approved and built the affiliate agreement would likely be near expiration. If it is ultimately Fresno, one possible fun storyline next year could be Jake Gatewood returning from injury and playing in his hometown.
