  1. D.J. LeMahieu is taller than that just among active players (and a fantastic defender) Yes, I forgot LeMahieu was that tall. I can’t think of any others.
  2. I believe Travis Shaw will be the tallest second baseman in MLB history. There was speculation that 6’3” Caleb Kowart set that record last year.
  3. Shaw is making me uncomfortable just listening to him talk about trying to play second base.
  4. I picture the conversation with Shaw as something along these lines...
  5. Counsell says, “we’ll start out with Shaw playing 2B now”
  6. I know he is controlled through 2022, but I think if Shaw were indeed going to get traded it would be to a team further along in their rebuild (or even to a contender with a starting pitching or positional player surplus).
  7. That has been my exact thought every time this speculation came up. I just can’t picture him lumbering over to second base on a DP, but I hope I am wrong and it turns out to be a thing of beauty.
  8. I forget that Moustakas isn’t even 30 years old yet. Seems like he has been around awhile.
  9. No, that is certainly newsworthy. Thanks for pointing it out.
  10. How long does a flight from New York to San Francisco take? Assume he will be suited up by Sunday.
  11. So I can’t believe Travis Shaw is going to trot out there at 2B, but I’ll admit this would be a pretty imposing top six lineup against right-handers... Cain CF Yelich LF Aguilar 1B Shaw 2B Moustakas 3B Thames RF
  12. The reports from this winter when Moustakas’ name was coming up were that Shaw was being discussed in other trades. If they were going to do that I would rather they just took care of it in the off-season and signed Moustakas as a Free Agent.
  13. This is the first move under David Stearns that has left me truly perplexed. I guess I’ll sit back, grab the popcorn, and see how this one turns out.
  14. I am leaving the question mark until this is official, but seems like a legit source reporting it [it is official]... LINK: Per source: The Royals have agreed to a deal with the Brewers for Mike Moustakas for Minor Leaguers Brett Phillips and Jorge Lopez. From MLB Trade Rumors... The Brewers have lined up with the Royals on a deal that will bring third baseman Mike Moustakas to Milwaukee, according to MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan (via Twitter). Outfielder Brett Phillips and righty Jorge Lopez are going to Kansas City in return, per the report. This appears to be a fascinating agreement for a variety of reasons. It seems the Brewers will be rolling the dice on Travis Shaw’s ability to play second base, as the long-time third-bagger will apparently make way for his new teammate. For the Royals, meanwhile, the focus of this swap is on acquiring MLB options rather than far-off, higher-ceiling talent.
  15. I’m surprised they aren’t getting someone up with Jeffress’ struggles. Edit: Williams up now.
  16. Maybe Braun just needs to hit the ball softer? That was a nice piece of easy hitting.
  17. How did Arcia reach that pitch? It was low and a foot off the plate.
  18. I had my doubts this would ever be the case, but Craig Counsell admits that Corey Knebel is now likely to pitch in innings other than strictly the 9th going forward and he makes it sound like he will just pitch whoever makes sense for specific situations regardless of the inning. Also mentions Knebel will be better off pitching more frequently. VIDEO of Craig Counsell with Adam McCalvy
  19. Rosenthal tweeted it, check out the Mous thread.
  20. Here is the Ken Rosenthal tweet... OF Brett Phillips a healthy scratch tonight for #Brewers’ Triple A affiliate. Per sources, he is one of prospects in play in MIL’s talks with the #Royals about Mike Moustakas. Also was part of MIL’s talks with #Orioles about Manny Machado, and those teams remain in discussions.
  21. I love that we are to the point where we can consider the Brewers a pitching safe haven where a mismanaged young hurler can come to be developed properly while pitching in front of an exceptional defense. That concept three years ago would have been incredible far fetched to the point of being laughable. Now it is at least considered a plausible narrative.
  22. Reports are that Escobar found out about the trade from MLB Network and Paul Molitor met with the media as part of his normal pregame routine and said he hadn’t been notified of a trade involving Escobar as the TV near him was scrolling news of the trade. Awkward.
  23. The Orioles are apparently on the verge of signing 22-year old Cuban Victor Victor Mesa, the top international free agent. Interesting how they went from not doing the whole International thing to signing the best player available. Mesa is likely to immediately be a top 100 prospect. Edit: Now reports from Jesse Sanchez that he does not have a deal in place and hasn’t been declared a free agent yet. Also notes he is planning an open showcase for all 30 teams. Edit #2: Marlins signed him.
