  1. The trade deadline is one week from today at 3:00pm CT. Lots of speculation and hugs to be had over the next week. Any moves the Brewers make after tomorrow will have to meet up with the team on the west coast. Look forward to seeing how different the roster looks by time they return from that trip. Amazingly the Brewers only play 52 games after the trade deadline which has to be among the fewest of any MLB team.
  2. This certainly falls into the catergory of “I’ll believe it when I see it”. I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest that Travis Shaw would be a passable second baseman. I am in the camp that thinks if they are truly interested in Moustakas then they have different plans for Shaw altogether.
  3. Well, in my opinion, he is being undervalued by some as well. And for those that believe he is overvalued, it isn’t like it is just solely the fan base that is high on him right now: BP Mid-Season Top 50 Edit: For the record I wouldn’t even rank him nearly as high as BP just did, but I also wouldn’t bet against him developing into a good major league hitter.
  4. I don’t think the current crop of minor league talent will produce as many above average major leaguers as the mid-2000’s farm system, but I do think we are going to be surprised by how many major leaguer players eventually emerge from the current system.
  5. If nothing else Yandy Diaz could at least give Thames a run for his money in the gym...
  6. There are currently only 4 teams in the National League with a worse record than the Washington Nationals. I can’t believe they have been so poor this year with the roster they have.
  7. This is mostly meaningless, but I’ll share anyway... Chris Archer is two months from turning 30 years old, the same age Matt Garza was when he entered the Brewers rotation. On a more relevant note, I am not outright opposed to trading for Archer, but I don’t think giving up Keston Hiura for him would be wise.

  9. I was at this game. First game of a doubleheader that was supposed to be a day off. Only around 3,000 people on hand to see it. Bizarre seeing so few people at an MLB game. So was I, actually. In addition to the epic comeback it also remains the only time I have caught a foul ball at a Major League Baseball game.
  10. That’s fine, but the truth is he has experienced more than his share of it this season.
  11. One of the “downsides” of now being a competitive team is that there is less room for proper pitching development at the MLB level. I think Jimmy Nelson is a good example (although maybe closer to the extreme) of how long it can take for a pitcher to develop into a solid major league starter.
  12. This has the makings of an early bullpen day. Really wish Braun could have handled that pop-up.
  13. Braun has struggled statistically this year, but his xwOBA is a very solid .347 which suggests he has had some really tough luck along the way.
  14. From Ken Rosenthal... Rival exec on Familia return: “We are somewhere in middle on it. While we don’t love either guy, it’s not terrible for a rental. Do wonder about timing. Value doesn’t seem compelling enough to jump 10 days before deadline, especially with one of few true backend RPs on market.”
  15. I thought there was an interesting series of tweets from Alec Dopp yesterday on this subject. I don’t think MGM Park has been considered overly hitter friendly prior to this year. I did go back and check however, and in 2017 MGM Park did actually lead all of professional baseball in left handed hitter home runs. Below are some of the highlights of what Alec shared via Twitter (Note: Everything listed below this point are Alec’s takes, not my own). 1.003 OPS in Biloxi; .709 everywhere else Corey’s park-adjusted OPS is .795 this year per Statcorner, basically 50 points below his actual OPS MGM Park has the third-highest HR park factor for lefties in all of professional baseball this year Furthermore, check out the cluster HR at Biloxi compared to road.

  17. Reportedly another middle infielder the Brewers are believed to be checking on is Asdrúbal Cabrera. From Mark Feinsand: Familia not the only Mets player drawing interest; source says multiple teams have inquired about Asdrubal Cabrera, though no deal is imminent. Brewers and D-backs believed to be among potential suitors. Cabrera hasn’t played SS at all this year, but between 2016 & 2017 he started a 180 games at Shortstop. He is a switch hitter that could play 2B and 3B as well. It appears he has been very good offensively this year as a left handed batter.

  19. The MLB comparison in my mind this season has been Mets OF Brandon Nimmo. Beyond just their eerily similar statistical outputs (K%, BB%, BA, OPS) this season, Nimmo was also a highly touted prospect that experienced some significant peaks and valleys throughout his early development. He has now found some extra power to go with his solid speed and is on pace for a 3.5 WAR season.
  20. I remember when Jed Lowrie seemed like a no-brainer trade target for the Brewers. Well the A’s now have a better record than the Brewers and are on the verge of making a trade as buyers for Mets closer Jeurys Familia. I can’t say that two weeks ago I saw the A’s making a “buyers” trade deadline move before the Brewers, but here we are.
  21. Disagree on Woodruff, he has the ingredients to develop into a solid MLB mid-rotation starter, IMO. A broken bat “single” extended the inning, that is bad luck and bad range that got him tonight more than anything.
  22. Yelich on the other hand just looks completely dialed in at the plate.
  23. I mentioned this earlier tonight, but Broxton really should be the one in CF when they are both in the lineup.
  24. [sarcasm]I wonder what the Dodgers would want for Machado?[/sarcasm]
