  1. There have been teams that have traded for a player before the deadline and then lost some games, so they then traded that same player away and became a seller. I think worrying about 40 man roster spots that will occur months in the future, is a little deep in the woods for your run of the mill article on a player trade you are going to see online. So one would never know how much it may have dictated a trade. You have to be dorks like us to worry to level of detail. I don’t have any idea for their motivation for doing so, but in 2009 the Red Sox traded prospects for Adam LaRoche and then traded him away a week later at the deadline. They were a very good team at the time and all I remember was it seeming sort of strange. I was in Boston at the Red Sox game the day before he was traded (also known as the day the story broke about David Ortiz testing positive for performance enhancing drugs years earlier followed by him hitting the go ahead HR in the game).
  2. Not to mention the lost 2nd round draft pick and coinciding draft bonus pool money. For a team that has seemingly lived a charmed existence in recent decades, this signing turned out to be one really poor decision. The team that truly lucked out here is the Rockies by virtue of Holland tuning down their $17.4 million qualifying offer.
  3. If he produces something similar to the results he had over the first 2.5 months of the season he will turn out to be a good rotation addition for the Cubs. If he continues to get hit around like he has over his past 5 starts (including two road starts) he might not last very long (5 GS, 22.0 IP, 37 H, 25 ER).

  5. If the Brewers are indeed playing baseball through the end of October I’m guessing a big reason why will be the strength of the bullpen.
  6. Glad they rallied for some runs in the top of the 9th, turns out they needed them.
  7. I believe Christian Yelich is very good at hitting. If that is controversial to some, I am sorry.
  8. At this point they need to go all out to secure this win. Obviously a nice impact of a big hit from Thames last inning would have been likely not needing Jeffress right now.
  9. 0.525 and trending down...hope Thames reverses that And that includes a Ji-Man Choi grand slam. Woof, that has to bounce back up at some point, right?
  10. Time to up that bases loaded OPS. How bad is it again?
  11. Could really use some of Braun’s west coast magic here.
  12. In the past (I think in St. Louis) Counsell commented that it was because RF had more space to cover.
  13. Adam McCalvy tweet from tonight... Doubt this will surprise anyone, but Craig Counsell said Joakim Soria won’t be “the closer.” Corey Knebel has filled that role. I have a feeling that even if Knebel proves to be clearly just the 4th or 5th best reliever in this bullpen he is going to get a lot of opportunities to be forced into the “closer” role. I really wish they could get away from the concept of needing a specific closer.
  14. Yelich smoked that line drive HR. Looks like I’m staying up late tonight!
  15. The Giants have had the lead off batter on in 4 out of 5 innings tonight.
  16. Yeah, I appreciate his passion for the Brewers, but if you aren’t a reporter you better be 100% certain before you spread news relating to player transactions.
  17. Woah, surprised Yelich threw that to 1B? Great play by Aguilar.
  18. Sounds like it is Rollie Lacy and a PTBNL. Unless the PTBNL is someone significant that has the makings of a really underwhelming return for the Rangers.
  19. Some Sonny Gray news from Ryan Field via Twitter... Sonny Gray will also undergo an X-Ray after taking a ball off the thumb. Tough night for the #Yankees. The reason for the use of “also” is that Aaron Judge fractured his right wrist in the game. It won’t require surgery apparently, but it will at least three weeks before he can resume swinging a bat.
