  1. Keston Hiura will be batting in the #5 spot today for the U.S. Team. Here are the full starting lineups:
  2. Sounds like Wilson Ramos strained hamstring injury is likely going to require a DL stint. Tough news for him personally since he was going to be the AL’s starting catcher in the All-Star Game.

  4. From Tom Haudricourt... As if things weren't going bad enough for #Brewers, looks like Eric Thames won't be available these last two days before all-star break due to hamstring tightness. Going to be short-handed in doubleheader tomorrow, it would seem. With the All-Star Break coming up I guess I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just DL Thames and get someone up for tomorrow’s doubleheader? If he isn’t going to play until Friday at the earliest anyway, I would rather he is on the DL until early the following week and they actually have enough available players for the upcoming three games in two days.
  5. According to my magic 8-ball... ”It is decidedly so.”
  6. I tend to think his range of possible outcomes moving forward remains as wide as any current member of the Brewers bullpen. I can picture a scenario where it all comes together for him and he is a shutdown reliever, and I could also see him drifting off into late inning mediocrity.
  7. Not to send this thread into deeper despair, but the Brewers have moved into the bottom five in terms of offensive strikeouts per game. They are averaging 9.18 strikeouts per 9 innings, the only teams that are worse are the Padres, Rangers, Phillies, and White Sox.
  8. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like something strange is going on with Woodruff. Maybe they really did just want to get him a break, but I am not sure it made sense to continue with that plan based on the needs at the MLB level during that period.
  9. With the anniversary of the Sabathia trade last weekend I saw a clip of Craig Counsell talking about how much of a positive surprise acquiring CC was for him and hits teammates in 2008. I am curious what others think about the impact of adding an elite player midseason does on a team’s psyche? Do you think the emotional boost is worth anything tangible in terms of other players having success or is it overrated?
  10. Sometimes I find it really hard to balance. It's such a long season and every team goes through their peaks and valleys, but I also think that the 2014 collapse really did a number on me. I would say we have a ton more talent than that team did, but I'll never forget the frustration of watching it slip away bit by bit. For me watching last year’s 5.5 game division lead over the Cubs disappear in I think just 9 days was more painful than the 2014 team collapse.
  11. What is the rule on the fair/foul ball in the opposite batters box? Is it just a judgement call on if it is in fair/foul territory?
  12. The latest from Ken Rosenthal: #Orioles have ramped up background work on #Phillies prospects, responding to Phils’ increased interest in Machado, sources tell The Athletic. Phils won’t move RHP Sixto Sanchez but are willing to trade from SP depth from Low A to AAA. RHP Adonis Medina of interest to O’s. It seems like RHP Adonis Medina’s trade value would be similar to that of Luis Ortiz.
  13. I think there is some truth to that. One take away I've had from reading the proverbial "tea leaves" surrounding marquee trades the Brewers were rumored to be involved in over the past year (i.e. Quintana, Gray, Yelich) as well as free agent negotiations (i.e. Swarzak this past off-season) is that the Brewers front office appears to place what they believe is a proper valuation for the trade target or free agent, and they don't appear willing to deviate much from that initial determination. I obviously don't know these things for certain, but I get the sense they don't engage in escalating an offer based on the actions of other teams.
  14. From Bob Nightengale: The Detroit #Tigers are listening to offers on starter Michael Fulmer, but teams know price tag is steep. They have also made OF Nick Castellanos available.
  15. For those that can’t get enough Machado speculation... This ESPN article doesn’t include any actual reporting on rumors, but ranks the teams that would benefit the most by acquiring Machado: Manny Machado's top 12 landing spots

  17. Now that we are just 4 days away, I would be slightly surprised if the Orioles don’t hold on to Machado through Tuesday’s All-Star Game. I don’t necessarily think they should hold on to him because of the All-Star Game, but it’s the Orioles. If that is the case, I will be curious to see how quickly they move him following the game (or if they keep him right up until the deadline). I’ll never forget the 2011 Brewers trade with the Mets for K-Rod being announced just minutes after the AS Game ended. Granted a Machado trade happening immediately after the game would be on a whole different stratosphere.
  18. With the addition of Jeremy Jeffress the Brewers now have FIVE All-Star representatives for the first time in the organizations 50 year history.
  19. Such a bizarre moment. Not sure I’ve ever seen a player get a call reversed by pointing to the spot the ball hit.

  21. Wow, really poor throw by Yelich. Edit: I know he doesn’t have much zip on his throws, but they have to be more accurate than that from shallow left field.
