  1. One positive is I still think Suter is going to be great in a late season long relief role if the Brewers eventually have enough healthy starters to move him to that role.
  2. That botched call is infuriating and costs the Brewers at least one run. Sigh.
  3. What was Dozier doing on that? Shouldn’t it have been an easy double play to begin with?
  4. The Rockies recently optioned Jon Gray to Triple-A. Despite an ugly ERA Gray’s peripherals remain fairly strong. There appear to some fluky elements to his struggles this season, although there has been a velocity dip in his most recent starts. I am curious if the Rockies would be willing to listen to offers for Gray? I have a feeling he would still cost plenty because I doubt the Rockies are ready to give up on his talent. I do think he could be a Gerrit Cole-type candidate for a resurgence with a change of scenery. Curious what others think of Jon Gray? If the Rockies fall out of things and are willing to consider offers I think he could be a sneaky good acquisition that would be under control for 3.5 more years without costing the Brewers as much as either deGrom or Syndergaard.
  5. With Aaron Wilkerson likely coming in the game next inning here is a look at the game logs from his each of his appearances at Triple-A this season... 6. I think Brinson has a much greater range of outcomes than I believe Hiura does. I believe Brinson offered less certainty overall, but a slightly higher ceiling if things were to click for him offensively at somepoint (taking into account defensive ability and the value of position based offensive production). For Hiura I think the bat is about as safe as it can be for a prospect currently in Double-A. That doesn’t mean he is “can’t miss” by any means, but it is hard to picture him not becoming at least an average MLB second baseman offensively. My concerns for Hiura defensively isn’t even as much the arm injury as it is that his arm was reportedly considered well below average before the injury. There have certainly been serviceable MLB second baseman without strong arms so I also don’t think the arm strength is something worth blowing out of proportion, but it will limit the possibility of having much positional flexibility with Hiura. Another part of the equation for me is that when trading Brinson I felt like the Brewers were getting fairly strong performance certainty back in Yelich. One thing that worries me about giving up Hiura in a trade for a pitcher is that the Brewers, IMO, may be the team taking on greater risk than the team acquiring the prospects, which I would say is somewhat atypical.
  7. Despite a very rough 58 pitches over the first two innings it is somehow still just a 3-run game. I’ll take it at this point.
  8. It’s early, but Peralta’s command does not look very good today.
  9. If they went that route I believe Yelich would be eligible to return from a DL stint on Monday, July 9th.

  11. The Brewers hit the mid-point of the season with their second best record in franchise history through 81 games. Below are the top ten Brewers team records through the season’s first 81 games: 2014 (49-32) 2018 (48-33) 1979 (47-34) 2007 (47-34) 1978 (46-35) 1980 (46-35) 1982 (45-35-1) 1981 (45-36) 2008 (44-37) 2011 (44-37)

  13. Reminder: For those looking for the broadcast this is another Facebook Watch Game. For those unfamiliar with Facebook Watch Games there are more details available at this link, What is the Facebook Watch Game? And yes, it seems like the Brewers have been assigned more than their fair share of these games exclusive to Facebook.
  14. I am not saying it is the wrong move, but having to use Hader in this game is disappointing.
  15. Granted the usual caveats such as that his opportunities thus far have been against the Rockies, Twins, Pirates, and Royals, but for the most part Freddy Peralta has looked the part and then some. I am on board with him being in the rotation for the foreseeable future.
  16. Wasn’t it just a week ago that he was slumping/regressing? If anyone subscribes to The Athletic this one is pretty good: The one who got away? Jesús Aguilar, the Indians and capitalizing on an opportunity
  17. Internet trade speculation is a funny thing (and for the record there is no way I would support this trade proposal)... Seattle Mariners Trade a Day: Eric Thames
  18. According to the Brewers player development Twitter account (Link) outfielder Kyle Wren has been released. In addition to Wren’s release it mentions Shane Opitz has been reinstated from the Colorado Springs DL.
  19. Not Brewers related, but it looks like a possibility that High School RHP Ethan Hankins drafted #35 overall by the Indians may go the JuCo route (Link). He signed with Chipola Community College which may either be a leverage ploy or may be an actual decision to try to regain some of the stock he possessed before experiencing some injury issues.
  20. Personally I would be fine if they choose the “sell high” route, but you bring up a good point. Ray is a curious case from the standpoint the Brewers have been so high on him previously that it is possible they may still place a higher valuation on him than other teams are willing to (obviously just a guess).
  21. I was trying to keep in mind overall probability, and I believe there is a higher likelihood the Brewers make somewhat smaller moves than high profile ones. I could certainly be wrong, but I think it is more likely the front office looks to improve the margins rather than the core this deadline. I think you could acquire a player like Jed Lowrie, Wilson Ramos, or even possibly JA Happ by putting together some combination of the prospects listed. I am skeptical the Mets are really going to move deGrom or Syndergaard, and even if they do I am not sure the Brewers are going to part with the entire top of their farm system which would almost certainly be necessary. I’m also skeptical the Brewers would consider Machado a serious possibility unless the Orioles significantly lower the “two top starting pitchers” type asking price. I don’t think the Brewers are going to be willing to move Keston Hiura because there is such a clear path for his bat to be in the lineup by this time next year. I could see them possibly moving Freddy Peralta or Corbin Burnes, but it would likely have to be for a player with multiple seasons of control if you are moving those guys, and I am not sure how many of those type of players that would be able to provide a significant upgrade beyond just this season are going to be available this deadline? Outside of J.T. Realmuto I’m having trouble coming up with many.
