  1. Jesús Aguilar is just in total beast mode right now with the bat.
  2. Hopefully the third time through is the charm for the Brewers here. Coming into this game Cain had never struck out against Odorizzi in 16 career plate appearances, but 2 K’s today. Yelich is now 0-for-10 with 6 strikeouts in his career versus Odorizzi, ouch.
  3. What a disastrous throw from Bandy. I have avoided piling on, but that was just bad.
  4. I can’t remember seeing him lose his cool to that extent. Maybe I am forgetting some other examples, but it seemed really unnecessary.
  5. I know the Brewers bats are prone to poor stretches, but Odorizzi has seemed to have done a nice job keeping the Brewers hitters guessing at the plate these first two times through the order.
  6. Curious what others think Machado will sign for this off-season? My guess would be something like 9 or 10 years in the $275-$300 million range.

  8. Here is a link to the MLB.com article from Adam McCalvy: Nelson receives encouraging news on shoulder
  9. A fun pitching matchup today with Freddy Peralta going up against Fernando Romero. Both are 6ft (or slightly shorter) right handed rookie hurlers from the Dominican Republic. Romero was considered a top-100 prospect entering the season. Both have come out of the gate strong in their first MLB appearances.

  12. I really like the “trade value” exercise as a way of understanding the nuisances involved within each player’s value equation. I do think Christian Yelich is close enough to Josh Hader for a debate. The past two seasons (2016 and 2017) Yelich has been listed overall at #23 and #27 respectively, in trade value across all of baseball as part of Fangraphs trade value series. Obviously both are incredibly valuable because beyond the potential to be an elite talent, each is a controllable asset for many years. Yelich costs quite a bit more which may ultimately give Hader the edge. I do believe the overall risk is lower with Yelich (as almost always the case when comparing the longer term outlook between a position player and a pitcher). It is always possible Yelich’s career trajectory goes the way of Nick Markakis, but barring significant injury that appears to be his floor, in my opinion.
  13. One more player that appears destined to be added to this list is Braves 3B prospect Austin Riley. As noted prior to the 2015 MLB draft, Riley attended a pre-draft workout with Brewers, but ultimately the Brewers selected Nathan Kirby #40 overall, one pick before the Braves took Riley at #41.
  14. In his postgame press conference last night Counsell said Bandy pinch hit because both Braun and Hernán Pérez (wrist injury) were unavailable. He also said Jeremy Jeffress was unavailable with a stiff neck. Called those guys day-to-day. Trying to get through games with a limited bench has seemed like a theme this season.

  16. My problem was that Williams is walking 18% of the batters he faces this season and a lead off walk in the 8th inning of a tie game is something they couldn’t afford.
  17. I like Taylor Williams a lot, but not sure I like him pitching for a second consecutive night when he is walk prone and a lead off walk could easily be the difference in this game. Edit: For the record I wrote that before the actual lead off walk.
  18. That called strike two against Yelich just completely changes the sequence of that at-bat. I usually don’t get overly fired up over called balls and strikes, but tonight has been more frustrating than normal.
  19. I think you are right, I went back and looked at the frame-by-frame and it appears that it hit the outside webbing of the catchers mitt which clearly folds inward upon contact with the bat.
  20. It would be really great to see Santana deliver against Greinke after the walk to Shaw. Come on Domingo.
  21. AJ Pollock was looking like a lock to be the National League’s starting CF in the All Star Game. Pollack’s unfortunate injury and subsequent 4-to-8 week absence will likely open the door for someone among the next tier of NL center fielders to take the starting spot. Likely contenders at this point include Tommy Pham (STL), Odubel Herrera (PHI), Lorenzo Cain (MIL), and Starling Marte (PIT).
  22. Giving Greinke an expanded zone to work within is frustrating to watch.
  23. With runs likely be hard to come by tonight against Greinke scoring Yelich following a lead off double seems extra important.
  24. Did I miss something, why did Yelich basically concede the second pitch of his at-bat before Greinke released the ball?
