  2. Excellent overall post, it's good to have you back! This is one of the reasons I am hopeful of the current organizational rebuild. It seems like there has been a shift toward adding as many talented young players as possible and letting talent, health, and development sort things out.
  3. The Brewers have since added three more players this off-season that were listed on other team's top 30 prospect lists in the Baseball America Prospect Handbook: Jacob Nottingham (A's #11), Bubba Derby (A's #12), Sean Nolin (A's #14).
  4. Since it appears the Rangers are the favored landing spot, an interesting follow-up poll when this one closes would be which Rangers prospect is the predicted centerpiece of a possible Brewers-Rangers trade: Gallo, Mazara, Brinson, Tate, and maybe include Profar or Other?
  5. From the Baseball America Top 100 Prospect Chat...
  6. John Sickels revised his Brewers top 20 prospects list to include Jacob Nottingham and Isan Diaz. Based on his grade rankings, Sickels was high on the Brewers system before the additions. Now he has Nottingham slotted at #4 and Diaz at #6 in the Brewers system. Also interesting that all of the players he has ranked from #3-to-#6 were added to the system in the past seven months.
  7. While there is still a long way to go in the rebuild (and yes it was started on Melvin's watch), it's hard not to get excited when intelligent analytical minds such as Dave Cameron bestow this much praise on Stearns and company...
  8. Just going to throw this out there for the next BF.net Community Prospect list, are we sure we can contain our excitement to just 25 prospects? Seems like a lot of good players are going to get left off the list.
  9. I am sure this has been mentioned here already, but there has been an internal connection to both of the past two centerpiece prospects the Brewers have acquired. Isan Diaz was drafted by Ray Montgomery in 2014 and now they get a guy in Jacob Nottingham whom David Stearns knows very well since Jacob was in the Astros system just over six months ago. I like that they have familiarity with these players which tells me they have very good information on these players and are now going out and trading them.
  10. Reason to be optimistic about both prospects acquired here. A couple of snippets taken from parts of the Baseball America player bios/notes on both... Jacob Nottingham (ranked as A's #11 prospect) - this ranking seems similar to BA not ranking Josh Hader in the Brewers top ten when pretty much everyone else has. Bubba Derby (ranked as A's #12 prospect)
  11. We've bounced back and forth a bit on where we are putting these top 100 prospect lists, but with Baseball America's top 50 prospects being aired on MLB Network at 8:00pm CT tonight, here are the Brewers that ended up being ranked in the Baseball America Top 100 Prospects: Nos. 51-100. #59 - Jorge Lopez #57 - Brett Phillips Will find out tonight if anyone joins Arcia in the top 50, seems like Trent Clark could be a possibility. EDIT: Two more Brewers additions to the BA top 100... #49 - Trent Clark #8 - Orlando Arcia Here is the full list, Baseball America Top 100 Prospects
  12. Nottingham is an exciting catching prospect to add to the system. Sounds like there is still work to do on the defensive side, but certainly appears to have the offensive chops to be a valuable catcher. I really like these Stearns trades thus far.
  13. As far as a guy just outside the top tier of Twins propects, I really like LHP Stephen Gonsalves. For guys further down the list that seem intriguing, agree with And That on 20 year old Austrialian LHP Lewis Thorpe and also like the reported offensive profile (per both BA and Sickels) of 19 year old Venezuelan infielder Jermaine Palacios.
  14. Hmmm... Another tweet asking for a source is answered with: "Someone from the Milwaukee organization who shall remain nameless if that matters..." The account does look more engaged in actual Twins discussion and news than your average throw random rumors against the wall Twitter account.
  15. Discussed earlier in the thread that the Brewers are 9th in Baseball America's organizational rankings, here is the entire list: Organization Talent Rankings: How They Line Up
  16. It appears a package deal is one creative way a team could circumvent the international signing rules and avoid paying a large tax penalty for Lourdes (for further explanation see Fangraphs Article). Still seems more likely though that Lourdes will wait until late October to sign when teams won't be subject to any international signing restrictions.
  17. With the Rangers leading the charge in the Lucroy trade destination poll, thought others might be interested in John Sickels just released Texas Rangers Top 20 Prospects list. Biggest difference from other lists is that Sickels is much higher than others on 20 year old RHP Ariel Jurado from Panama, listing him #6 in the Rangers system. By comparison Baseball America had Jurado 19th on their Rangers list. He did have 95 K's with only 12 BB's in Low-A last season.

  19. An interesting note on Rangers infield prospect Josh Morgan, who has been brought up in this thread several times as a potential trade piece in a deal for Lucroy, the Rangers are attempting to develop him into a catcher this season. He instantly becomes a more intriguing prospect to me as a catcher, but it may also decrease the likelihood they will want to part with him.
  20. I agree that the Nationals and Rangers present the most practical landing spots for Lucroy, but I have a feeling that he is going to end up in Houston, immediately setting the baseball blogosphere ablaze with conspiracy theories.
  21. I think there are some oversimplifications in those statements. I don't think the Astros plan was ever "lets be really bad". The Astros lost 106 games in 2011 and fired their GM, Ed Wade. When Jeff Luhnow was hired that offseason before the 2012 season it was pretty clear that his directive was to build the organization for the future, and he did exactly that. Stearns began with the Astos during the off-season heading into the 2013 season, which would their final year of 100+ losses. In Stearns third season with the organization they made the playoffs. It's possible we are each applying different definitions of "long term", but if the Brewers use the next two seasons to build a foundation of talent throughout the organization and then start their climb towards relevance at the MLB level in 2018 I would be satisfied with that.
  22. From his Fangraphs chat today, I found Dave Cameron's comments regarding tanking to be some of the best I've seen. I think the notion that tanking is a sudden epidemic threating America's past-time is comical, and Cameron hits on the motivations of those crying foul...
  23. I guess someone finally beat the Braves to the punch on one of these trades. A little curious because on his MLB Network appearance yesterday Stearns mentioned he had been working on the deal with the Dbacks since November.
  24. I would be disappointed if Brandon Woodruff isn't pitching in Biloxi this year. Seems like he has had enough success (when healthy) and quality stuff to continue the organizational climb. Maybe he does start in BC to continue working on command and then moves to Biloxi mid-season.
