  1. I don't undervalue his talent at all, he has proven he is capable of being an elite offensive force. I also don't have illusions that a player in his 30's with a history of hand and back problems which have proven debilitating at times is going to be highly sought after by other teams.
  2. I don't want to be the party pooper here, but outside of including other Brewers players I can't fathom a scenario where Braun and some money (even a significant amount) would bring back A.J. Reed? Hope I am wrong because that would be amazing.
  3. Does the "forum" happen to be named Ground Control? I have never seriously considered Braun wearing any other uniform than a Brewers one, so from standpoint it would be quite a surprise.
  4. Thought this point that Dave Cameron made in his Fangraphs chat yesterday was a good one, and worth sharing here since it seems to parallel what Sterns has done so far in acquiring guys like Villar, Middlebrooks, Nieuwenhais, Walsh, Carter, Betancourt, Broxton. They won't all work out obviously, but using the rebuild to take a chance on enough undervalued guys with talent should ultimately help them find some assets who can become either tradable commodities or key core pieces to the next competitive team in Milwaukee.
  5. While the Heyman tweet is somewhat discouraging, I am going to continue to hope that the negativity (i.e. Brewers scaring teams away, teams not offering anything of value, etc.) isn't entirely accurate. Ultimately it only takes one team to make a Lucroy trade work. Regarding a trade with the Nationals, I think a fit is possible. If the Brewers were willing to think young in a deal (which I am confident they would), they could score some exciting young prospects. The Nationals have a treo of teenagers with promising futures. The first is 18 year old 3B Anderson Franco who has already found his way into the Nats top ten prospects (according to BA). Want some more info on Franco, who was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2013, then read this ARTICLE. Next is 19 year old RHP Pedro Avila originally signed out of Venezuela in 2014. In his first professional season Avila managed 92 Ks with only 18 BB in 63.2 IP. Last of the teenagers, and arguably the most talented, is 18 year old OF Victor Robles from the Dominican Republic. Recently named the Nationals 3rd best overall prospect by BA, he has busted onto the scene. Want to get excited about Robles, read this ARTICLE. If the Brewers were able to snag these teenagers along with one highly regarded pitcher (Reynaldo Lopez, Erick Fedde, or A.J. Cole), then I would make a deal and send Lucroy to D.C. where he can win games and break-up Papelbon/Harper fights.
  6. Haven't seen this posted elsewhere (if I missed it I apologize), MLB Pipeline released their All-Defense Team
  7. I am looking forward to following the Link Reports! ...well to be fair that's every year As healthy as the Brewers system is currently, I expect it to only continue to grow deeper and more rich with top-end talent over the next couple of years. That thought excites me. Regarding the big league club specifically, YoungGeezy hit on it. I am intrigued to see how many of the young players perform because the odds are at least some of them will develop into good major leaguers.
  8. The early 90's road grey button-down with the Milwaukee script underlined and the two striped sleeve is my absolute favorite Brewers jersey and I would be ecstatic if they went back to it instead of their current set. In the past (although not in the past two years) I have searched far and wide for that jersey. I have bid a couple of times on game worn versions of it, but never ended as the high bidder. I did eventually land the 80's pullover grey jersey (pictured below), but I would still very much prefer the button-down early 90's jersey shown in the post above. BTW, the picture below is from this ARTICLE from earlier this year about Paul Molitor's Mitchell and Ness throwback being a big seller in West Virginia apparently, although it's not the jersey shown. http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site569/2015/0325/20150325__paul%20molitor%20brewers%20jersey.jpg
  9. YG1, very nice summary on the Rangers prospects. I agree with you on just about every one of your "prospects to target". I also agree that I would include Matuella over Dillon Tate in hopes that you could get more value elsewhere in the deal. I really like Yohander Mendez as a pitcher that could develop into an elite player. The one target I am a little weary of is Ti'quan Forbes since I would like to see some evidence of power before considering him a viable 3B prospect. I would be interested in a package of Lewis Brinson, Michael Matuella, and Yohander Mendez, not sure if that is considered the moon or a step below? Regarding the A's, I think some combination of the prospects mentioned would have to be in the deal. I guess one other thing to keep in mind is the A's do have the second pick of the draft lottery Competative Balance Round A (currently projected as pick #39) that they can trade as well. Like others mentioned though, the A's seem like a stretch at this point.
  10. The Perfect Game has an updated draft order after each free agent signing that has draft compensation implications.... UPDATED DRAFT ORDER
  11. It was in Ken Rosenthal's ARTICLE from earlier today...
  12. The new site 2080baseball.com is a very exciting up and coming baseball scouting resource. Recently partnered with colbyjack's Perfect Game staff, seems like an excellent match. From the 2080 site, here is a breakdown of current candidates to go first overall in this year's draft: 2016 MLB Draft early candidates for 1-1 The list contains nine players, so certainly some of the same guys the Brewers will be scouting for their first selection. One noticeable omission from the list that I've seen mentioned as a candidate to go in the top 5-10 range, Puerto Rican SS Delvin Perez. In the chat linked above BA's Hudson Belinsky projects Perez as Milwaukee's selection. Curious if anyone has a good scouting report or more information on him? So far I have only come across a few short blurbs and a couple of videos. Sounds like his glove is ahead of his bat at this point, but I am intrigued nevertheless. I know Keith Law recently touted Perez as a candidate to be the top overall draft pick, but I haven't seen what scouting information accompanied his assertion. The top pitchers are certainly taking the headlines at the top of this year's draft class. Barring injuries it looks possible 3-4 pitchers could go before the Brewers selection. Groome is the one guy I think I would consider drafting at #5 even if he suffered an arm injury this Spring. That is probably crazy, but everything I have seen, heard, and read paint him as an elite combination of stuff to paired with very good control and command.

  14. Fangraphs speculation about sending Lucroy to the Rangers... Let's Get Jonathan Lucroy to the Rangers By Jeff Sullivan / January 15, 2016 The last paragraph efficiently summarizes the article for those that want to get straight to the point...
  15. Count me in the category that believes a Lucroy trade is on the horizon. I get the sense this is something they are going to want to get done over the next month. This is assuming of course that some suitable offers are out there, but I am going to stay optimistic in that regard. Using the Gallardo trade as an example last year, the trade conversations reportedly began at the Winter Meetings and continued for six weeks until news of the trade broke on January 18th. During that period very little information was leaked regarding the trade negotiations. I get the sense that something similar is going on currently, in terms of conversations that were sparked earlier in the off-season still developing at this point. It seems at any moment in the coming weeks that news could break on this front.
  16. I agree with others that mention Cordell is probably not a candidate to become a major league 3B, and is not someone I would be all that interested in acquiring. The only player of the bunch that I would have confidence in eventually becoming a solid major leaguer or better is Luis Ortiz. Even with Ortiz, who I very much like, I worry a little about whether he has put on to much extra weight to his frame during the past year. I realize good baseball players come in all shapes and sizes, but for only being 20 years old Ortiz appears to be somewhat "out of shape". Maybe it is an unfair criticism and doesn't matter since he clearly appears to posses the stuff to be successful. Here is a to one of his Fall League outings.
  17. Sign me up for a Dave Stewart trade. With the Grienke signing the dbacks are clearly all in for 2016-2017. Any trade with the Dbacks would have to include Shipley and Drury. I would strongly prefer Lugo over Guerrero. Guerrero is older than Lugo and had bad year in the southern league last year. Wei Chieh Huang also interests me. Doesnt throw gas but locates well with a nice change-up. Reminds me of Lopez in the brewers system. I am a little skeptical of Drury, but then again I don't love the offensive profiles for most of their position player prospects. I do think they have some interesting arms such as the RHPs mentioned in Shipley and Huang, as well as 2nd round LHP Alex Young. And just for fun why don't they send us back LHP Anthony Banda as well.
  18. Can't answer for others, but I honestly didn't put much thought into listing Perez. I guess the name was basically a place holder to counter Gennett, probably more likely to replace with Walsh, Rivera or even Cecchini with Villar moving to 2B. I'll invest a little more effort into the exercise when we have a clearer idea of who will actually be on the opening day roster.
  19. While I got a kick out of this whole story from day one, have to admit I feel bad for Correa to be facing prison time for these transgressions. By accounts I read he was a dedicated guy that worked his way up over the years from a position as a part-time Cardinals employee to only recently become the scouting director. Sounds like he was well liked throughout the Org and now he has ruined not only his career, but years of his life. All for viewing someone else's proprietary information. I know he clearly knew what he was doing was wrong (although I wonder if he considered the magnitude of penalty he could face if caught), and I am not saying he shouldn't be facing prison time, just that it is an unfortunate set of circumstances. On a lighter note, one funny quote from Judge Hughes to Correa, “Explain to me what Ground Control is. My son is a rocket scientist and I thought I knew.” Which brings me to a question I have had since Stearns took over, what would be a good name for the Brewers internal network version of Ground Control or Redbird? Maybe Craft Brew?
  20. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them back to back then? Increase your odds of popping one out of the park with guys on base? Maybe I'm mis-thinking this one but if you put one towards the bottom of the order, that's where there are guys who don't get on base as much as the top of your order. My goal would be to place guys between them that can get on base, which may be easier said than done with the guys in the current projected lineup. What I would like to avoid is a spot in the order where in the first inning one of them is likely to end the inning and the other would become the defacto lead-off hitter the second inning. Something like this would be my preference, admittedly not a very good defensive lineup... 1) Villar 3B 2) Lucroy C 3) Davis LF 4) Braun RF 5) Santana CF 6) Carter 1B 7) Gennett / Perez 2B 8) Segura SS
  21. 16-year old Cuban OF prospect Lazaro Armenteros had an open showcase for MLB teams today. More information and highlight video via Baseball America. Lazaro Armenteros Highlight Video by Ben Badler / Baseball America
  22. One thing I did not take into account above is league average OBP by position, and that is where Carter would be considered below average. This chart shows OBP by position, last year's OBP for first baseman in the NL was .349. It's lower (.340 OBP across MLB) if you factor in that AL first baseman, but still quite a bit above what Carter has produced over the past couple of seasons.
  23. I have been thinking recently about Will Smith as a trade chip. I think he would bring back a nice return if dealt. I agree that a trade deadline deal might be the ideal time, but still assume there are teams out there checking in on him now. One team that stands out is the Cubs. Their roster seems to have very few holes, but a good LH reliever is a piece they appear to need. I know dealing in division is taboo for some, but the Cubs may have the pieces to make it worth it.
  24. Both Carter (9.8%) and Davis (9.9%) hit home runs on just under 10% of the balls they put in play last season. If they are both in the lineup I would prefer to seperate them by 2-3 spots in the order since they profile so similarly as hitters.
