  1. Very scary stuff. Here is the TWEET from MLB Pipeline: And some of the original Tweets...
  2. I added the first one to the Link Report, but below are some player videos from the first AZL Brewers action of the season... : CF Trent Clark at-bat (first professional hit) : C Beau Wallace at-bat : 2B Daniel Leonardo at-bat : SS Gilbert Lara at-bat followed by 1B Tyrone Perry at-bat and RF Yeraldy Martinez at-bat : SS Gilbert Lara flies out to deep centerfield In addition to providing the linked footage above, ESPN draft writer Eric Longenhagen shared an intriguing TWEET from June 22nd as well...
  3. From last night's AZL victory, here is footage of Trent Clark's first hit as a professional... A few other player videos linked in the 2015 Maryvale / Helena Brewers thread.
  4. And to put a bow on Saturday's AZL coverage, here is video of Trent Clark's first hit as a professional... (video link accessed from this channel or this Twitter account).
  5. The draft signing amounts are artificially held below market value because of the pool/slotting system in place. It is not a good barometer of fair market value for a prospect. Specifically regarding Toussaint, he also would have gone much higher if he was in this year's draft and he has had relative success while not being allowed by his previous organization to throw arguably his best pitch. I would also contend that Bradley, even when drafted, did not have anywhere near the ceiling of Toussaint.
  6. The difference though is there is no salary cap in baseball. So while it may be more justifiable to dump salary in sport with a salary cap, it makes much less sense in baseball. Especially when other avenues for acquiring young baseball talent is regulated with spending limits (i.e. draft slot money and international bonus limits). It would be especially hard to swallow as a DBacks fan when you factor in details such as the team reportedly just recently signing a greater than $1 billion TV deal as well as the fact they spent $16 million to sign Cuban Yoan Lopez (considered by many an inferior pitcher to Touki) which will cost them the opportunity to sign any international player for more than $300K for the next two years (and at a time when they have been allotted the largest international bonus pool).
  7. This TWEET from the DBacks Official Twitter account includes a quote from GM Dave Stewart following the trade announcement. I guess they are taking the "embarrassment of riches" approach in justifying it to their fan base, but it doesn't appear the majority of the industry agrees with their assessment.
  8. In addition to the players involved in those trades trwi7 listed, the Braves also added Competitive Balance Draft picks in this year's draft from both the Padres and DBacks.
  9. I find myself fawning for the Braves approach toward acquiring young talent, yet being thankful I am not a DBacks fan at the same time. I have posted it previously, but the list of players the Braves have added to their farm system over the past several months is just staggering. While certainly there are no guarantees with any given prospect, the Braves are increasing their odds for success based on the sheer quantity of talented players they are continuing to add.
  10. Looks like the trade involves the following...
  11. The Braves just acquired Touki Toussaint from the D-backs per this TWEET, a player that Brewers Scouting Director Ray Montgomery drafted in the first round last year. Only speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be shocked if the trade involved Bethancourt. If so, maybe it will spur the Braves to trade for a catcher? The Braves have certainly put together quite the collection of young prospects over the past 8 months.
  12. TWEET from baseball writer Eric Longenhagen who is in attendance at tonight's AZL Brewers game. EDIT: And now his first hit...
  13. Congratulations to Nathan Kirby and Virginia on advancing to the CWS finals vs. Vanderbilt (best-of-three) beginning on Monday. Curious if/when Kirby will be available to pitch since he threw yesterday.
  14. This Maryvale roster really has me looking forward to following the game logs. Some specific things that intrigue me include monitoring Gilbert Lara's play at SS (and obviously at the plate), seeing how the highly touted high school guys (Trent and Demi) fair in their first shot at pro ball, and hoping for some success among the other HS guys that bypassed college commitments such as Nash Walters and Tyrone Perry. Seems like it is going to be a fun season in the desert.
  15. Count me among the group that did not like it. Break up a perfect game in the bottom of the ninth by swinging the bat (or taking a walk), not dropping your armored elbow into a breaking ball.
  16. LINK: Richmond Times-Dispatch article includes video of Nathan Kirby discussing tomorrow's start.
  17. Three thoughts on this... 1) It instantly has become one of my favorite baseball scandals ever. It's right up there with Jason Grimsley dropping from the ceiling into the umpires locker room to retrieve and replace Albert Belle's corked bat. 2) It was a great excuse to go back and read some of the originally leaked data which I found fascinating all on it's own. 3) I wish the Dirty Birds had made a significant trade with the Astros during the period of stolen info, but regardless it seems like a significant strategic advantage to know exactly what on-going trade discussions and player evaluations another organization is having.
  18. Not trying to be a Matt Dominguez apologist, but I don't think adding him to the 40 man roster is so terrible. I don't love the team potentially subtracting a good young arm at a time when they should be adding prospects by the fistfuls, but I am hopeful this might be a mere insurance step before they go into full blown rebuild mode. Also, while Dominguez certainly has had struggles, I am willing to take a chance on a 25-year old with at least some major league caliber tools that may very well have his prime years ahead of him. It seems like worst case scenario you have someone you can stick at 3B defensively during a transition phase for the organization. Best case scenario, even if the chances are very slim, the guy could have a breakout similar to another 25-year old 3B waiver wire pick up from back in 2008. I guess count me in on taking a chance. Now if the team doesn't start adding prospects and competitive balance picks in the near future I will probably change my outlook.
  19. Some entertainment from Omaha today with bottom of the 9th walk-off hits (including a HR) to end the first two games. Curious what others think of the UmpCam? IMO, the camera quality leaves something to be desired, but the concept is interesting. Most intriguing for me is that it offers a different look at pitch speed and movement. A little explanation included in this Omaha.com ARTICLE. Here is a still image as captured by UmpCam... And this VIDEO link provides some brief UmpCam footage.
  20. TWEET from yesterday via Adam McCalvy.
  21. All indications are that Kirby will contribute out of the bullpen. Below are some paragraphs from this ARTICLE with quotes from his coach Brian O'Conner in bold.
  22. Looks like Byron Buxton will be making his MLB debut for the Twins tomorrow.
  23. An OUTSTANDING preview of the 2015 College World Series available at Perfect Game, written by Mr. Patrick Ebert and Mike Rooney... Perfect Game: 2015 College World Series Preview
  24. Some additional acknowledgements for CWS players eligible for next year's draft... A.J. Puk is the number one 2016 draft prospect according to Sports Illustrated. Connor Jones and A.J. Puk both acknowledged as top pick candidates for 2016 in this MLB.com article by Jonathan Mayo.
  25. Below are some players participating in the CWS that have garnered early attention as top prospects for the 2016 MLB Draft. Player reports listed below were taken from Fangraphs' Kiley McDaniel, in his 2016/17 MLB Draft Ranking: Ridiculously Early Edition. Below are just the players listed that are eligible for the 2016 draft, there are many more CWS participants listed on the 2017 draft prospect list found at that article link.
