  1. Jesse Winker’s career line against the Brewers is pretty incredible... [pre]G GS PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS HBP 47 33 145 127 28 46 8 1 13 25 14 24 .362 .441 .748 1.189 4[/pre]
  2. For more on Spider Tack here’s a passage from this great article in The Athletic, Spider Tack is the stickiest stuff in baseball’s foreign-substance controversy. Its inventor had no idea: “Get Spider Tack out of the game and I don’t care about anything else,” an MLB pitcher said, singling out a substance so spectacularly tacky that it suddenly has expanded beyond its initial market (strongmen lifting Atlas Stones) to a much larger one (pitchers hurling five-ounce baseballs). .......... Spider Tack represents the logical extreme in an arms race for better spin and nastier movement that has gone, to this point, unchecked by the league. Until a crackdown comes, Spider Tack is still one smear on the artist’s palette that is a pitcher’s glove. Pine tar, a sunscreen-and-rosin mixture and bubble-gum spit are more commonly used, another MLB pitcher said, but Spider Tack is easy to hide and wickedly effective. It’s almost too sticky — it takes WD-40 or baby oil to get it off your fingers. “Spider Tack is there to have on your glove for when you need that slider or heater to really rip,” the pitcher said.
  3. Here’s the Twitter video of Gerrit Cole’s answer when asked whether he’s ever used Spider Tack.
  4. Three Aces and a Jace is the new stars and scrubs.
  5. This is how the Sports Illustrated article begins... One ball made its way into an NL dugout last week, where players took turns touching a palm to the sticky material coating it and lifting the baseball, adhered to their hand, into the air. Another one, corralled in a different NL dugout, had clear-enough fingerprints indented in the goo that opponents could mimic the pitcher’s grip. A third one, also in the NL, was so sticky that when an opponent tried to pull the glue off, three inches of seams came off with it.
  6. Today marks the Brewers 60th game of the season which was obviously the same number of games they played for the entirety of the 2020 regular season. A look at the playoff picture if things ended right now: NLDS (5) Dodgers / (4) Padres vs. (1) Giants (3) Mets vs. (2) Brewers ALDS (5) Astros / (4) Red Sox vs. (1) Rays (3) A’s vs. (2) White Sox
  7. The good news is the Brewers active roster has a 1.030 OPS against Sonny Gray over career 110 plate appearances. The bad news is Adrian Houser has struggled a bit against these Reds hitters (.862 OPS), led by Jesse Winker who has 5 home runs in 13 at bats against Houser. Lastly, today marks the Brewers 60th game of the season which is the same number of games played in the entire 2020 regular season.

  9. I was just coming to post the same thing. The Adames interview begins at the 12-minute mark, and somehow left me liking Willy Adames even more (which I didn’t realize was even possible)...
  10. Woody= Ace of Spades Burnes = Ace of Diamonds Peralta = Ace of Hearts Love it! Just need an Ace of Clubs now.
  11. They’ve lost 17 in a row on the road. That’s an incredible accomplishment, especially since they seemingly have some decent hitters.
  12. The Brewers are now 12-3 on the season versus the vaunted NL West.
  13. I’m a little surprised by Hader being unavailable today. He’s only pitched twice in the month of June, and that was this past Thursday and Saturday. He threw 18 pitches yesterday, I would’ve figured he was available today.
  14. According to Statcast, the Brewers average expected batting average today is .305 versus just .145 for the Dbacks.
  15. Agreed, that probably wasn’t an easy call but Burnes looked so good that I’m glad he rode with him. Now need just 6 outs from the bullpen.
  16. First Brewers pitcher to record 13 strikeouts since Freddy Peralta’s Mother’s Day gem in 2018. Career high for Burnes, according to McCalvy just the 14th start in Brewers history where a pitcher recorded 13+ strikeouts.
  17. I'm playing Monopoly with the family, so I'm relying on Eucker's description. He made it sound good. Marte is already playing deep in CF and it was a line drive over his head. I’m not sure the route ended up mattering, I don’t think he was going to catch that ball regardless.
  18. I know he had a bit of a slump prior to going back to Triple-A, but Tyrone Taylor looks like a major leaguer to me.
  19. Another awful inside pitch call against Adames. Smith should just try to locate all of his pitches in Bellino’s blind spot.
  20. The amount of hittable pitches in the zone Keston has swung through this season is deflating. It sure doesn’t seem like something that’s on the verge of being corrected at this point. Alright Robertson, Crew is finally on the board.
  21. Bauer’s fastball spin rate was apparently down quite a bit from his season average in his start today. Tweet from Jorge Castillo: Trevor Bauer’s average four-seam fastball spin rate this season entering today: 2,835 RPM. Bauer’s average spin rate on 18 four-seam fastballs through three innings today: 2,613 RPM. That’s 222 RPM below average.
