  1. Wow, what hard work. Great job Cappy! k'ed the side, but used up about 25 pitches
  2. Maybe we should trade for the Wright guy. If we can shut us down in Colorado he must be something special. I cannot understand how he has a 5+ era. And I cannot understand how a 5+ era guy can be so effective against us. Joking aside, this game is kind of important now. The results went a little our way so we can pick up a game on Houston. Mind you, I think we will be 5 1/2 games behind Houston/Washington/Philly and 4 1/2 behind Florida. After tonight, it be SURVIVE for a week or two. We cannot make ground up on 4 teams, but if we can just hang close for a couple of weeks, I guess 2 of the 4 teams will fall back. But, if all four team play .500 we can actually chip away. This is just my opinion. I do not want 400 posts explaining the permutations to the nth degree and questioning my sanity. I just want to win tonight and play good in Houston.
  3. I sure hope Lyle can get his average back over .280 and pick up a few homers to get to 20something. I do not think there will be a big market for Lyle if he is a 'peaked at' .270 16 home runs 1st baseman. In hindsight, I think Dougie should not have made Lyle untouchable in July.
  4. I wonder if Colorado would be a good place to piggy back starters. Seems the first time through the staters go ok, THEN the batters figure them out. Maybe subconsciously the batters think a curve ball is coming and stop thinking that after 3 innings. So put in another guy and they and guess what he might have on the night.
  5. sure, I understand there is little chance now, but there was 2% chance at 56-56, but noone even was interested in canvessing that chance; heck, if we were tied with 5 times for the lead, the realists here would still say 'no chance' anyway, I am sure the best we could hope for in 5 days is to be 4 1/2 behind THREE teams (houston/wash/phil); so let us hope for that then you all can say 'no chance, no chance' and I will say 'sure, there is so little chance', but let us see if we can hang within 4 or 5 games of the bunch for a little while (heck, even that will be hard) mind you, our guys often play like they think they have no chance - maybe they are reading here and relaxing away their season
  6. My thought is: we had our chance when we got to 56-56, we went 5 losses; so I think the year is pretty much done however, if we can win tomorrow and win 3 of 4 from Houston, I will think again; but that is about a 1 in 10 chance of happening but we have won 2 of 3, and used Ben Sheets as a mop up guy; how bizarre
  7. for you guys that have been watching or listening, can you tell me how Corey looked overall in his few chances to play the ball?
  8. I am really happy Corey can get a taste of this. But I always think a guy is doing it a little tough when he has a big Ofor, when all other guys are hitting. My preference is for him to play until Clark is ready then do the AAA playoffs. Before the last couple of games I wanted him to stay (as Ned suggested), but this year is gone... so let Corey have a couple of week here, then a couple back at AAA, then a couple back here again.
  9. good job, billy, you have talent now, ned, you need to steal billy to 2nd and then 3rd to get him off the bases; he is going to clog up the works
  10. Hey! we ran up a base on a wild pitch!
  11. Well we can all only agree on one thing: There is SOMETHING out there. But no one knows what it is.
  12. You guys SAW the game. Were our batters at the end trying to do whatever they could to get on base, or were they just swinging away to get it over with. I have given a gazillion examples throughout the year on strange happenings that are obviously mental weaknesses. And you guys just say... give proof. I gave it. It is not an awful thing to be mentally weak. It is a big characteristic of poor teams. That is the way it is. We need to increase our mental ability along with our physical ability. The guys here who ignore the mental side of the game are very odd guys indeed.
  13. Peavey, they do too many strange things that show me there is some mental block(sssssssss) going on. It is mental when your runner at third is not thinking how he can run home. A weak ground ball. No run. A wild pitch. No run. That is not talent, that is a mental error. Sheets just serving up batting practice, becoming the teams mop up guy. Wow. That is mental error on Ben's part and on Ned's. That is not lack of talent. Any ONE event like this just 'life'. This mob CONSTRUCT wierd mental failure after mental failure. It is not lack of talent going 28 or 29 batter up and batter downs earlier in the year after the same batters hit for two or three innings. It is a mental 'good night' act. Really, you have watched them. They do crazy things day in and day out. The things they do are complete divorced from talent. Weeks standing on second base watching a right fielder catch a ball. Rickey should have been on third base running home or half way between 1st and 2nd. That has nothing to do with talent. That is mental or coaching (which is a mental activity). Really, they are just WEIRD.
  14. All you guys that are still around, can you answer the rhetorical question just put did this team play to the last out did they try their best through thick and thin did they give you any reason tonight to have any iota of pride being a brewer fan heart does not exist... i agree... at least on this team it starts from the top... ned what did you do to get a postive of of this game; what did you do
  15. As I say, this team is just too much up and down, they are a walking mental case. Ben did not just forget how to pitch, he gave up. I dont say it in a bad way. I just say he had enough. I really think this team needs to play each pitch one by one. But they are not mentally prepared for baseball. They are not tough at all. I know, I know, 'tough' cannot be proven. But you know they dont have a price difference between rib eye and chuck steak for nothin. It does exist. I can see it!
  16. Wow that new, not established, 5ish era pitcher <> was sure good tonight Cook
  17. again, I am amazed by the teams lack of effort to step up refusing to run home???????????? having no pitching plan for Coors These are mental errors and coaching errors and not lack of talent The entire organisation suffers from this losing culture yuk
  18. Please take my comment here seriously, so just read and comment normally: What effect do you think it has on the team when in the first inning everyone on the team knows we have simply refused to score to runs... I mean REFUSED. I can guess the entire team can be deflated. And I think it is so hard to pick yourself up after that. At some stage we need to compile a keystone cops lowlight list. I am amazed at the ways we decide to gift runs to the other team and take them away from ourselves. Why does this happen so much? And imagine the morale lowering effect this has on the other team members.
  19. Ho-Lee cow. I hope you guys are just being sarcastic. Down by only 2 at Coors Field early in the game and ya know sheets will settle back down. Sheesh..... but if our runners refuse to run home how can we score?
  20. I suppose 4-2 would look nice that 1-2. Imagine we are in the world series and our baserunners refuse to run home to score runs. And even on passed balls they refuse to run home. Maybe it is better to learn how to run home before we enter the playoffs.
  21. A couple of years ago Baseball Prospectus did an analysis of how teams did over a few years in one run games. And they found some teams won (regularly for a few years) a disproportionate amount of those games and some teams lost a disproportionate amount. The pure 'stats' showed this should not be the case. And the winningness seems to stick with a team for a few years and not bounce randomly from team to team. The winners were winners and the losers were losers. BPs conclusion was, I paraphrase, 'we dont know why this is true, we cannot explain it, but it seems certain teams are just better than others in 1 run games'. Hmmmmm, I wonder what 'stat' is this elusive factor. And before all the stat heads jump up and down, be careful what you diss. I am only pointing out what the BP guys said. They were/are confused. (but I am not)
  22. What do they get you, 2 wins a year? I would guess the number is higher, but if it were only two, I would love to be only 4 1/2 back today. One thing that I did not read was that 'heart' makes you understand every moment of the game and TRAINING is important. You practice and play every moment to you highest ability MENTALLY so that when the tight situation comes alone you are MENTALLY fit for it. I think the tone of this team is too up and down (dont laugh, I know the feeling). They lack heart in applying their skill every chance they get. Then when they get into a pressure situation, they can collapse from nerves. I dont want to recap all the situations. Actually, and they can crazily feed off one another - and they have had a couple of freaky comebacks. But I would rather they apply heart (every moment is important) to each task they do and depend on their skill level. Heck, you can even then link heart (apply yourself always in every situation without panic) to confidence.
  23. I was just thinking, we are hopeful Corey can play CF and our evidence to date is that he looked OK watching a home run ball go over the fence. He seemed to pick it up and watch it ok. Oh, I think Brewer fans are the most resourceful on earth looking for hope.
  24. Well, that guy excites me. Well done Mr Hart. I dont know what Corey was when we drafted him, but you must admit it is an amazing trip around the diamond. I think he was drafted as a first baseman. But then there was Prince. So Corey had to to to third. But then there was ground balls. So Corey had to go to right field. But then there was Cruz. So Corey had to go to left field. But then he plays two games in center to spell a struggling Krynzel, and slam, bam, thank you mamn YOU ARE THE BREWERS NEW CENTER FIELDER Who would have predicted something like this.
