  1. So, DM says he's not talking about anything specific, huh? That means something could pop at any moment!
  2. I agree with those who say "to hell with Jenkins". I have also been a big supporter and fan of his until the past few days. What a jerk for popping off. If the Brewers really mean so much to him and he wants to win with them, they're finally on the cusp of doing so! Why not try to contribute in whatever way is best for the team and then let the chips fall where they may AFTER YOU FULFILLED YOUR CONTRACT! I say try to platoon him. If he pouts, then sit his XXX down and let him try to get that 3 year/$30m contract next offseason when his value is zip AND he's considered a bad influence in the clubhouse. At least at that point we'll be rid of him. At least he's showing that he's a "me first" jerk now versus being disruptive and non-productive during what could be a very fun season for the Brewers!
  3. Well, then that should clearly mean that we are still dead in the middle of conversations to acquire him, right?! Although maybe this time DM is doing the reverse on us - we'll think he's lying, but he's double lying, and we really aren't pursuing him!
  4. I'm going to take the pessimistic view and then be pleasantly surprised if we get him. But being in the early stages at 4/40, I have to believe someone is going to get crazy and he'll wind up 4/50 or something. Or, even 5/55-60. You just never know with the market this offseason.
  5. Ok, I'm just going to go from thread to thread this week and bring everyone back to reality. A-Rod and Manny are not coming to Milwaukee, unless a) they are traded to a NL club or b) they are traded to an AL club who we play in interleague play next year. Just take a deep breath and stop talking about A-Rod or Manny coming to Milwaukee in a trade.
  6. What the hell is benmaller.com and does he/she have direct access to DM's mind?
  7. The only way Manny is coming to Milwaukee is if we find 2 million people to move here to make it a major media market. Oh, moving Milwaukee to either coast would help. Or to warmer weather. Let's stop with the Manny talk already. It just gives other fan boards material with which to laugh at Brewers fans.
  8. Baseball GM's can be creative at times, but I think you're giving them just a bit too much credit...... you'd have to lock these guys in a room for a week to hash out something so complex. And as your first question posed - has there ever been a 4-team trade in MLB history? It would be interesting to see, though. And crazy things ARE happening this offseason....
  9. I did see somewhere that the Brewers are expected to offer arby, but then SD is expected to withdraw their offer to him. Should be interesting, and I agree he should fire his agent for screwing it all up. But I still think we're better off with CC since he can play SS, plus the two picks. Very nice outcome.
  10. Franklyn German is another minor league free agent I think we should/could have targeted for a minor league deal and invite to spring training. But I see he signed with Texas for same. Still young enough (27 I believe) to help someone with a power arm.
  11. minorleaguebaseball.com still shows House with Round Rock, which is in the Houston system. If he already signed with Baltimore, that's a shame that the Crew didn't get in on him. Sure seems like after 2006 he has shown that he could still be a real prospect who's close to the bigs.
  12. Anyone have a link that lists all minor league free agents? I was just wondering about someone like J.R. House. I believe Houston signed him after Pittsburgh gave up on him, and he rebounded very well this year. Just curious about whether or not he's a Rule 5 possibility or minor league free agent possibility. He actually had a heck of a year at AA and AAA.
  13. Carlos should just take a weeklong vacation...by December someone will have offered a seventh year and eight figures. ...I think you mean 7th year and NINE figures. But I agree with you....every day the numbers get larger and larger.....
  14. And to quote from the middle of the article posted above...."But an executive with one of Lee's apparent top three choices swears they will bow out before bidding reaches $100 million. So fiscal insanity apparently has its limits." Maybe I was underestimating when I said 6 year / $85-90 mil !!! Do I hear 7 year / $100 mil? At least it would average less than $15m/year!!....his agent says with a straight face..... Could he actually get 9 figures???
  15. Amazing....he could actually get 6 years/$85-90m. He and his agent must be wetting their pants due to the competition for his services. And they better send Soriano and Ramirez thank you Christmas cards this year.... Guess that explains why 4/$48 wasn't quite adequate, huh? Can you imagine how big and slow he'll be when he's 35 and 36 years old still hauling down $13 - $15m each of those years? More power to Mr. Lee if he can actually get the huge deal....
  16. I just don't see the Brewers actively pursuing a FA SP. If the best available SP's come from a list like Ted Lilly, Jason Marquis, Ramon Ortiz, Mark Redman, Aaron Sele, or John Thomson, we could probably just try to resign Ohka. Other "name" SP's are probably not going to be worth the $$ they command or simply be more than we can afford (i.e. Mussina, Mulder, Schmidt, Suppan, Weaver, Zito). A few intriguing names (depending on $$ of course) could be Vicente Padilla (maybe falls through the cracks after the "name" guys are gone?), Steve Traschel (one year stopgap?) or Randy Wolf? But I would guess we'll either be going with what we already have or picking something up via trade.
  17. It looks great, but has anyone figured out how to locate, download and utilize actual MLB data (team, players, stats, etc.)? Looks pretty good with creating fictional players, but would be that much better if I could figure out how to import real life info. Thank you!
  18. Don't worry.....the MONEYBALLMAN is remaining humble since there's a long way to go!! But not a bad way to start so far......
  19. I'm sorry if this was posted already (I didn't read the whole thread), but I think trading Lee FOR THE RIGHT DEAL needs to be considered. Projected VORP's: Lee: Year VORP 2005 25.7 2006 21.8 2007 19.7 2008 18.0 2009 11.1 Jenkins (just for comparison's sake): Year VORP 2005 16.2 2006 16.8 2007 6.9 2008 3.6 2009 4.3 Corey Hart: Year VORP 2005 6.5 2006 15.1 2007 17.2 2008 22.2 2009 24.6 Cruz: Year VORP 2005 2.6 2006 4.5 2007 9.3 2008 11.1 2009 8.3 Eric Chavez (just for grins): Year VORP 2005 47.9 2006 39.6 2007 34.2 2008 35.8 2009 30.8 Mr. Beane is going to ask for A LOT in addition to Lee for Chavez...... But that doesn't mean there's not an offer that Melvin shouldn't consider from someone.
  20. Outstanding game, huh? Badgers and Brewers!
  21. A sweep to go 1 over .500 with 7 left against Cinci and Pitt would be nice......
  22. I suppose up by 4, Yost can afford to give a few final at bats to Magruder in his big league career.
  23. As he hits a double.....probably just as I pressed "add reply"!
  24. Yeah, Directv has been terrible. It is on my schedule as well (but channel 642) and not on. Who's working their magic with them tonight???
