  1. This isnt about last offseason. This is about Melvins inability to find good pitching throughout his tenure as GM. He inherited Sheets and rented CC so last years success is mostly a result of those two studs. Other than drafting Gallardo what has Melvin done in regards to starting pitching? While young pitchers such as Jackson and Jurrjens have been traded Melvin has relied on stiffs like Suppan and Looper to help anchor the staff. I also just dont get how Doug can use injuries as an excuse with regards to Suppan and Bush. He talks about their injuries killing us like we lost Lincecum and Cain. If Doug actually believes that a healthy Suppan and Bush would be enough to contend then he is seriously delusional.
  2. Melvins comments just dont make any sense. He asks who the Brewers should have signed. Well the better question is who he should have traded for or drafted the last few years. While guys like Edwin Jackson, Jair Jurrjens, and Javier Vazquez were traded the last few offseasons Melvin was busy wasting him time signing the likes of Looper. Last time I checked free agency isnt the only place to acquire starting pitching, in fact its the last place you go being a middle market team like the Brewers. Melvin has been negligent in finding ways to acquire pitching. He has held onto assets like Hardy and hart too long and now they have very little value. Last offseason Melvin had a decision to make, Hardy or Escobar. Instead of making that decision when we were desperate for pitching he kept both and signed Looper. Melvin could have easily traded one of our shortstops along with Hart for a high upside pitcher. Melvin criticizing the fans by saying who would you have signed is shortsighted and the reason why he hasnt acquired enough good pitching in his time as Brewers GM. Sorry but its time to turn the page and hire a new GM, one with the ability to judge good pitching. I am also tired of hearing Doug talk about injuries with our pitching. We lost Bush and Suppan not Koufax and Drysdale.
  3. Melvin missed out on the opportunity to acquire Kazmir as well. Im sure the rays didnt just decide to trade him yesterday. Melvin could have traded for kazmir before July 31 but once again he missed an opportunity to acquire a young pitcher with real upside. That article is full of excuses for why we will suck again next season. Its time to fire Melvin and find a GM that actually values pitching.
  4. Well there goes another pitcher that Melvin failed to acquire. I think its becoming painfully obvious that we need a GM that knows how to acquire real pitching.
  5. There is no doubt whatsoever that Suppan is flat out terrible. Unfortunately his contract dictates that he will be back in the rotation next year and this is one of the reasons why we will most likely not contend again in 2010.
  6. They should have put guys on waivers weeks ago but this organization stubbornly thought we were still in the race. If we can get better value than the draft picks we should take it with any of the guys listed. As far as Kendall is concerned if some team is stupid enough to claim him I would be happy to just let him go for nothing.
  7. I just made a donation. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do with the site. It is very much appreciated.
  8. Its not just about making the playoffs but I just cant get any enjoyment over watching this team lose to the likes of the Pirates. All I ask is that the team is competitive and competing for a playoff spot in September. There have just been too many years like this where the team is floundering and going through the motions, basically playing the string out. All in all i love the Brewers but its torture watching this team play uninspiring baseball.
  9. We have no use for Kendrick whatsoever. We have plenty of other options for second base including Weeks who is better than Kendrick. The focus needs to be exclusively on pitching this offseason.
  10. I wouldnt mind shutting him down for the season but I have no doubt that Macha will run him into the ground in his quest to keep his job.
  11. This is horrendous. Melvin talks like he has something in the works and he winds up paying nearly all of Hall's contract and gets a 25 yr old A ball pitcher with no upside. Im not on the fence in regards to Melvin any longer, its time for him to go.
  12. I spoke to the guy again and he said that the Yankees are unwilling to take on any salary but will give us Igawa in a swap of bad contracts. They have already offered this same deal for Arroyo and were turned down. I dont expect this deal to happen with the Yankees. When all is said and done I expect Hall to be traded for Arroyo.
  13. I think the Yankees believe they can get Hall and actually make out financially in the deal. Either way I want no part of Igawa.
  14. Melvin wont make a deal like this Im sure but this is the type of garbage the Yankees try to pull.
  15. This is laughable but I was told the Yankees are once again interested in Hall but want the Brewers to pay just about all of the money owed and take Kei Igawa back. Im sure Melvin hung up on Cashman once again. The Yankees have real nerve trying to pull this garbage.
  16. No way am I willing to help the Cubs in any way. I want to trade Hoffman but not to the Cubs.
  17. Melvin has always had good offensive teams, both with the Brewers and with Texas. He has though shown a complete inability to acquire or draft enough power arms. I think Melvin is overall a good GM but he has to take the blame for this pitching staff. Going into the season we were supposed to be contenders but were we really with the rotation we had. Counting on a guy who threw 30 or so innings last season as your ace and 4 question marks to roundout the rotation wasnt smart. Melvin talks about how losing Bush and Suppan hurt us but Bush is average and Suppan is below replacement level at this point. This rotation was never good to begin and we had no depth whatsoever which shows that we were really never good enough to contend this season.
  18. Im sure the Brewers could get something for Hoffman but the owner doesnt want to alienate fans by selling off players.
  19. We had no business trading for Weathers in the first place.
  20. Melvin has never shown the ability to put together a top flight pitching staff. That was true in Texas and its true now. Like others have said Melvin could have traded Hart for Jackson but has he ever made that kind of move. Other than drafting Gallardo and Parra Melvin has done a poor job of acquiring real pitching talent through the draft or with trades. He has been a GM long enough now that its time to seriously question if Melvin is a good judge of pitching talent. We have had opportunities Im sure over the last few offseasons to trade for the likes of Edwin Jackson, Jeff Nieman and jair Jurrjens. No doubt its difficult to acquire young pitchers via the trade route but there have been good arms dealt. It was obvious that Tampa was either gonna trade Jackson or Niemann and they were looking for a bat in return. If Matt Joyce was enough to get Jackson then surely Hart would have been as well. As much as I like Melvin and feel that he is a solid GM his inability to acquire young pitching as well as his inability to hire non dopes as manager make me feel like we should probably turn the page. Sadly Jack Z was hired away a year early or we would have had a great candidate to replace Melvin.
  21. Macha has to go. Enough is enough with Kendall playing everyday. At this point we are better off falling apart so the thought of bringing back Macha and Kendall is nonexistent.
  22. This team has not been unlucky at all. There are plenty of teams that have had more injuries than the Brewers. Suppan is just a bad pitcher so him getting injured was not exactly a huge loss. Bush getting hurt doesnt help but Dave Bush is not exactly Tim Lincecum. Losing Bush should not mean the difference between contending and falling apart as we have. We can argue this back and forth forever but I just dont see how anyone can defend how Melvin has put together this pitching staff.
