  1. Since today is JP's self-imposed deadline to bid for Halladay (crazy how many different ways I have seen his name spelled recently - Google can be your friend), what are the odds he actually gets traded? I think JP is overplaying his hand.
  2. I have a sinking feeling that rock bottom is still two months away. Say... Sept 23.
  3. Probably already said here, but why not start the guy that is stretched out? How can this game not end badly? I usually watch a good train wreck, but this one looks to have a good possibility of fatalities. Blood makes me nautious.
  4. It was about time for this, though I thought it may have been Smith instead of Burns. What's the difference?
  5. Getting a little gloomy here in Brewerland. We need to string a few wins together badly. Let's go Crew, win one for the air and water show!
  6. It's probably a moot point since Hardy will not be extended by the Brewers, but he is hardly in the Hall camp. Yet. It took Bill Hall 2.5 years to get to the Bill Hall camp. Barring major adjustments (and I think his stance in hindering him greatly, but what do I know), he is heading to Camp Hall faster than Hall got there. You mean he looks like everyone does in a slump. I think he looks like everyone does when they are terrible.
  7. Second time Lilly has been bumped in little over a week. Given the year he's having, and the fact he was the Cubs lone All Star this year, would indeed be a huge blow.
  8. I'm not completely sold on Wallace being a blue chip prospect. He is a decent prospect, but his offense and defense is not fantastic, just good.
  9. This is worse than the Brewers giving up LaPorta for 2 months of CC Sabathia." Can't argue with the logic, but if they want to tell me the CC trade was bad I would beg to differ.
  10. Looks like John Mozeliak is going to make his first big splash with the Cardinals. Its make or break moves like this that can cause someone their job. I wouldn't like the trade if I was a Cards fan.
  11. ...however, if you check out that blog on a regular basis, the vast majority of discussion there is pretty much drivel. Basically the polar opposite of this forum. This is a more accurate, and a less generalizing, way to describe the JSOnline Blogs. Pretty much what you would expect when absolutely no standards are set (other than no cursing). I am hoping Melvin stands pat. Unless the players decide to step it up and go 7-0 on this homestand, its not worth cashing in the crop for one starting pitcher.
  12. To me, that is not the most inspiring list. I don't see anyone we would realistically have a chance to sign. Well, after Wellemeyer pitches two fluky games in the NLCS, we can grab him for around $40 million. The posters on all JSOnline blogs are complete morons. Don't take anything from those posts ever. Are you trying to be all encompassing? I would debate that all the posters over there are morons. I would even debate the capacity of someone who feels the need to call others morons.
  13. One is hinting at Halladay, and the other is hinting at Lee. You are right, it is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
  14. LaRussa mus be vomiting right now.
  15. Baseball fans are almost always too results oriented. There was no reason to think that Hardy had already had his best season, there still is no reason to expect it. 2006 Bill Hall would like you to reconsider your opinion.
  16. Hopes for Today= Officially Dashed. I'm going to go let my puppy out so she can take a Suppan. Don't forget to use the Suppaner scooper if the pup Suppans in the neighbors yard.
  17. And so starts the chain reaction... the Cardinals make me want to vomit.
  18. Its getting a bit ugly in here, looks like bad vibes DO follow Lopez wherever he goes.
  19. Unless this can be proven, I think it's best to assume this is just fan frustration as opposed to fact. I believe it can be proven or unproven, depending on what data you decide to trust.
  20. He is actually swinging at fewer pitches out of the strike zone this year than either of the past 2 years. He is swinging at fewer pitches in the strike zone as well. This is what I have observed throughout the year. Through observation, I have also noticed his timing of swinging at pitches out of the zone, and not making contact, on 2-strike pitches has gotten worse. He is at 66% of his Ks from last year, while only at 58% of his walk total. He is striking out more, walking less, and every other offensive stat is down. I would conclude his pitch selection is getting worse looking at this data. He is actually swinging at fewer pitches out of the strike zone this year than either of the past 2 years. I am still hesitant to trust this data as reliable or conclusive, as every umpire has their own subjective strike zone. I was looking purely at results, not interpretable data.
  21. If you had made this argument before the season started (did you?) I didn't pose the argument at the beginning of the year, nor did I see it coming, nor did I expect Melvin to see it. My comments have been purely hindsight, and I have not insinuated anyone should have seen it coming. My comments were based off my observations of Hardy this year, and what I happen to see as a future scenario for him. Could he rebound? Sure, but it will be too late for the Brewers to benefit much from it unless it starts very soon.
  22. Meh. I think you're being way too results oriented. Ever since the second half of JJ's rookie year, he's been an above average SS. With him nearing his prime, why would one expect a dropoff of this proportion? How can someone be too results oriented? Its entirely possible to believe Hardy has already peaked as a player. It happens all the time to baseball players. He is getting slower by the minute, and his pitch selection is getting worse instead of better. I believe he will not attain the offensive season stats he put up the last two years again in his career, and his diminishing speed will only escalate his defensive decline as a SS.
  23. Hardy is really putting the Brewers in a terrible position this year. Not only will an arbitrator take into account his career year last year when deciding his 2010 salary, but he is playing his value down to an all time low. Melvin will end up having to take peanut shells for him, or over pay him and trade Escobar. He should have been traded in the past offseason for pitching help. It wouldn't have been popular, but for a guy who was coming off back to back seasons of production way above what anyone thought his ceiling would be, his dramatic falloff this year shouldn't have been all that shocking.
  24. Anyone else hear that loudmouth Pirates fan yell "Hey Prince, is ice cream a vegetable?!" I'll admit, I'm having a bad day, but that kinda made me smile. Not because it's funny, but because hecklers are so lame. I laughed because it was funny. That probably makes me lame. He could have gone with cake instead of ice cream, but ice cream was funny.
  25. I wouldn't count on Dillard for anything more than what Burns has been doing. I would give the ball to Cody, but I am not Doug Melvin obviously. Burns should be done though. I don't understand how he holds down the Dodgers, but can't hold back the Pirates. Frustrating.
