  1. I won't say it, but I know i'm not the only one thinking it. Mike Burns, it's been fun. Thank you for the game against the Dodgers, but I'd rather your Brewer days be over now.
  2. but I feel like we're in the midst of a long slide. We have been, but what better of a way to get out of the funk then a Pirates series. If the Brewers can't win this series, it might be time to start thinking about breaking out the FSBO signs.
  3. Everyone knew he couldn't get hitters out, yet Macha threw him out there and kept him out there. IIRC, the bullpen phone wasn't working. It ended up giving Julio an extra two batters to face. It didn't take Julio long to implode that inning. Its not like he was out there for 20 minutes. I wonder if Melvin consulted with Billy Beane before he hired Macha. Grandpa doesn't seem to like flaky youngsters.
  4. Lopez Cameron Braun Fielder McGehee Hart Hardy Kendall or Lopez Counsell Braun Fielder Cameron Hart Hardy Kendall but never, ever Lopez Cameron Braun Fielder Hart Hardy Hall Kendall
  5. Much the way he forced Julio off the roster. I thought Julio played his way off the roster by not pitching well. Macha pulled one over on me.
  6. Only fools and communists would refuse to take such a bet. Wow, so we can call each other fools and commies now. Papa can't preach now, but I am not entirely sure this is a step in the right direction. I prefer calling others morons or numskulls. Gamel should have stuck, and I am not sure Lopez infuses anything here. Time will tell I guess. We still only have 4 outfielders (I still don't count Hall). I think the wrong area was addressed.
  7. Batting Kendall lead-off is almost sub-Bakerish. It makes me just as angry as Hova.
  8. I like Gamel leading off. Assuming Macha would finally start playing him everyday: 1. Gamel 2. Braun 3. Fielder 4. Cameron 5. Hart 6. Hardy 7. Counsel/McGehee 8. Kendall 9. pitcher
  9. Participation in the HR Derby is not contingent on being selected to the All Star team.
  10. There's a fallacy to your argument. Hall may have value as a backup ss, but this organization no longer considers him to be in that role. They haven't since 2006. That's why they've had Counsell for 3 seasons. He's the backup ss. This is what I have been trying to say. Hall is not the backup SS, so why compare his production to other backup SS throughout the league to justify his roster spot?
  11. Too bad there is no one good enough in that division to be his daddy.
  12. Second who will they be replaced by? If over half the teams have no better options than Hall then what makes you think there will be better options next year? The will be replaced by prospects, other minor league players, or free agents. This is going nowhere. Bill Hall is a sunk cost. If Melvin believes he can do better without paying that much more, then he should do it. Like I said, Hall will likely be around at least through a portion of next year. If he remains as bad as his is right now, he will not finish out the year 2010 on the Brewers roster.
  13. There aren't 10-15 players who we can realistically get who si both cheap and better than Hall for that specific role. Again, you are talking about the SS position only. You are picking the worst backup position players on a select few rosters. If Bill Hall is in company with the players you named, then I change my mind about the Brewers needing to keep him next year. Those players will be gone from those clubs, so why not Hall?
  14. If you miss the pregame stuff, you miss the show. I agree, the All-Star among us segment was so riveting I missed the first two innings because I was sleeping.
  15. It wasn't in the history of the Cubs. It was a guy they traded for THIS year to fix the hole they have on their bench this year. If he's not on the roster, then he is part of the history of the Cubs organization. If you actually took some time to look at the alternatives you would see for yourself that far less than 50% of the teams in baseball today have a better option. If you don't believe me go look for yourself instead of just repeating the same point without verifying it's veracity. I don't think I have to dig to hard into rosters of GOOD teams to find plenty of utility type players better than Bill Hall. I don't have the time or desire to search for my list of 10-15 candidates that are better. That said, I don't think the Brewers have a choice but to keep him at least through a good portion of 2010. Maybe he will miraculously turn good again in a contract year with no official starting position.
  16. Yea. Until MLB figures out a way to balance the schedule, I am fine with the ASG determining home field in the WS. Like others have said, an inflated record due to playing so many games in a weak division should not net a shot at home field advantage anymore than the 50/50 outcome of the ASG. Granted the AL has not lost for 12 or so years, but it is still a 50/50 game in my book.
  17. I'm curious to see how effective he will be. He sure ended up coming cheaper than I expected.
  18. This has to be what's holding up the sale, as it must be a ton of work to strip the Tribune creditors of claims against assets owned by the Tribune company at the time of the bankruptcy filing. I recall at the time of the filing, the Tribune company did not include the Cubs or Wrigley in the protection. Makes sense since they are the assets making money.
  19. A-Ram, Fukudome, D-Lee, etc go to other teams. Two of those are pretty funny if you ask me.
  20. No just one of many they have tried so far. They replaced him with someone who has about the same career OPS as Hall does but cannot play shortstop...check. I said I would be hard pressed to find someone on the Cubs roster as bad as Bill Hall. I didn't say I would be hard pressed to find someone that, in the history of the Cubs organization, was worse than Hall.
  21. You think the team doesn't need a backup shortstop? When has Hardy ever played every game all year without some sort of nagging injury? I am sure you are aware that Escobar is ready. Hardy goes down, Escobar comes up. I'm not unchecking that one. irrelevant. His is money already spent. The real question isn't how bad he is. it is how much better can we get while spending the same money. First you say the money is spent, then you talk about spending the same money. This seems contradictory to your argument. The question is indeed how bad is Bill Hall. My point is Bill Hall is real bad, has been for quite some time, and his production would not be all that difficult to improve upon. If you disagree, look at his 2007-2009 numbers again. You keep mentioning backup SS, but the fact remains that Bill Hall will not ever play SS again (at least not for the Brewers). He says he is the best 3B in the league, why would he play SS, or CF, or LF (the only other positions he has played)?
  22. I have a hard time understanding how an MLB organization is having a tough time staying afloat with a third world stadium. I can't wrap my head around this one.
  23. They traded for Freel who had and OPS of .640 with KC and .369 with the Cubs. Then they cut him Then I would assume he is not on the Cubs roster... check. and got Jeff Baker who had a .384 with the Colorado and OPS of .598 with the cubs. So not as bad as Bill Hall... check. Neither of whom could play shortstop Not relevant, but the Brewers don't need anyone to play shortstop... check. Andres Blanco is worse, I will give you that. This is why I said hard pressed. You came up with a guy making the minimum that has 81 ABs in a minimal role. A player, mind you, that was recalled at the end of May and will likely not be on the Cubs 25-man for much longer. I would be hesitant to state that Bill Hall plays better defense. More positions, sure, but better? Not so sure. All I'm saying is his money is better spent by keeping him as a veteran utility player than not having him at all. I do agree with your main point, but it doesn't take away from how brutally bad he has been for years now.
  24. Per JSOnline: "In only 12 minutes, Milwaukee Brewers fans snapped up 5,000 tickets at $5 apiece, thanks to a promotion that was tied to the number of home runs Prince Fielder hit Monday night in the Home Run Derby in St. Louis. According to a Brewers team official, people looking to get tickets started lining up at the Brewers ticket window as early as Monday night. And Tuesday morning, hundreds more were in line to take advantage of the deal. Tickets went on sale at 9 a.m. at the box office and online, and were gone in 12 minutes."
  25. I would be hard pressed to find anyone on the Cubs roster as bad as Bill Hall.
