  1. In the wild card era more wildcard teams won it all (8) than teams with 100 or more wins (6). Over the last ten years the average number of playoff appearances it took to win a single title was 4.6 years. Only one did it with less than three. Doing everything you can to field a great team does not increase your chance of winning it all. Doing what it takes to get into the playoffs does.
  2. What do you mean they never do? They've done just that for years now. Maybe you're using the term "going for it" differently. To me, and I think most others, it means doing everything they can to win now. To do that means sacrificing the future if it helps the present. They said their goal was to be good year in and year out. If anything it's the opposite of implying they're going for it.
  3. The team has never said they were "going for it." Theirs is a "more bites at the apple" appraoch which is the opposite of "going for it." I can understand why someone who thinks the team is doing the opposite of what they think they should do is frustrated but that's not the same as the team saying that's what they're doing.
  4. No need to yet since he's on a minor league deal. There's time to see/work with him before he needs a roster spot.
  5. It's good that he's a ground ball pitcher but he has given up 10 home runs in 71 innings. If he can avoid that he might eat some innings.
  6. I meant it as in a pity his elbow didn't start to flare up again before he got the call up. They made the right call to bring him up and I understand why they took the course they took with his elbow. It was just a bad stroke of luck it happened shortly after he got to the majors instead of just before. Bad luck for the Brewers that is. Rather fortunate for Gasser all things considered.
  7. Not to be cold hearted about this but why couldn't this have happened before he started he hit the majors? Now he gets a year of major league service time in while rehabbing.
  8. I think Woody is probably not going to be anywhere near what he has been next year. not that he won't every get close to it again but next year is going to be about getting used to the inevitable changes surgery does to a shoulder. That's why the 2026 option is nice to have.
  9. I usually take players value that's mostly based on defense with a grain of salt. The problem with using WAR is defense is both hard to measure and it's overall value is hard to quantify. The value of the same player changes depending on external factors. A shortstop's value with a high K, fly ball pitcher is less than for a contact, ground ball inducing pitcher for example.
  10. I think it's more like hitting a certain level of proficiency is necessary. After hitting that level the difference between them is negligible. Once a certain level is met the one that most exceeds that point has no more impact than the one who barely made it to said point.
  11. I just got a group text that was supposedly from the post office saying I had an undeliverable package and to click on the link to resolve it. If you're going to try a scam, it's probably best not to do a group text.
  12. They have a few days which might buy them enough time to decide if Gasser is headed for the 60 day DL. If he's gone for an extended period of time, Elieser might get a longer look to see what we have in him.
  13. He struggled early but has been good lately. It was said he struggled to get used to the outomatic strike zone system. The best argument for not bringing him up is needing to open up a 40 man spot for a spot start or two.
  14. keep in mind the only team they've played that currently has a record above .500 is the Brewers. One team has a .500 record. They've played 27 games against the Reds, Nationals, Pirates, Colorado, Angels, Marlins and White Sox. They've also had the most home games in baseball so far this season. It's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. We've played five teams above .500 and three at .500.
  15. If going 5-5 in the last 10 games is our struggling time we're doing fine. The Phillies are 27-9 at home, are playing well, have good health and one of the best pitching staffs in baseball right now. It's hard to think the Phillies will be any better than they are now in the playoffs. We know we can be better.
  16. I've been on thins bandwagon for a while. With their defense I think the Brewers are set up well to do it now. Sinkers and ground ball guys are cheap and can be effective.
  17. All they had to do was not gamble on baseball and they still did. What's even crazier is one of the guys bet a total of $99.22 and resulted in $28.30 of winnings. I'll never understand the allure of gambling.
  18. That didn't exactly work for Uribe. Got to wonder if Rodriguez doesn't get the call if they need someone. I know his overall numbers aren't good but from what I've read he had some problems adjusting to the ABS system and has started to pitch better as of late. My guess is a lot of it will be determined by bullpen usage and how close Junis and Ross are. If they can get by with a bullpen day or two al the better. If not my vote is Rodriguez over Miso.
  19. I wonder what his odds are of ROY if he maintains this pace. Can't say I know what other rookies are doing so I really don't know. Got to wonder if name recognition is an issue as well.
  20. I don't think managers are worthless. We've all seen managers who tanked a team with bad decisions or abusing pitchers. I think it's more their value has a ceiling. Once they hit a certain level of competency they're pretty much interchangeable.
  21. If we keep Mitchell down all season would we gain a year of service time? It would be a way to recoup some lost value due to injuries.
  22. I think the jury is still out on Murphy. I'm not sure I agree with how he's used Contreras for example. If he wears down in the second half it's on Murphy for how he used him the first half. I need to see how the whole season pans out before I'll put him in elite manager territory. Not the he can't be, just that it takes a whole season to be. It would be ironic if Counsell ended up hurting managers pay in the long run. If he turns an average team into an average team while his former team doesn't miss a beat it'd be hard to argue managers are worth much money. For Counsell to raise the bar for managers pay he not only needed to take the best offer but also produce. He can't prove managers make a significant difference by making no difference at all.
  23. It would be funny if the Cubs ended up worse this season and Pat Murphy wins manager of the year award.
  24. That's not how it works. We have to grade everything immediately or the players have to go back to their original teams. I read about that rule online somewhere.
  25. If you know their name they should be one of the nominees.
