  1. Given the sate of the division I don't think the Brewers can complain about injuries. Then again given the Brewers status neither can the Cards or Reds. At least they are spread around evenly so it's kind of back to square one competition wise.
  2. That's why I was a bit confused by the amount of time comparing it. Seems so trivial to the overall production.
  3. PECOTA has Weeks at .253 and Gomez at .239. I wouldn't expect drastically different BAs from them. Neither are really high average kind of players. Does it really matter other than one needs to have a high average because he never walks?
  4. Fatter than Joey. That explains why he's been missing for so long. dudes just sitting home throwing fastballs against the wall in preparation...or perspiration one or the other.
  5. didn't they have a relatively low amount of pitcher injuries while he was here? I could be wrong but I seem to remember something about the Brewers injury history with pitchers being fairly good while he was here.
  6. Cain getting sent to AAA makes some amount of sense considering were the rest of their prospects are at. If he's in the majors now it would be one less season they have him later when some of that AA talent is ready.
  7. Doug is a solid GM and he can make some moves that are really impressive, but he can also do head scratching moves with the bench that are really hard to understand, regardless if they aren't as important as the major moves with players who will play much more. That may be one of the best summations of Melvin to date. I would adjust head scratching to tied too strongly to a veteran bench ideal. I think some of that has to do with the Nelson fiasco a couple years back. I wish he would look at what McGeehee did that same season to see young guys can play even if given limited ab's early. As far as Cruz goes fairly or unfairly I kept thinking Barnwell when I saw him. He seemed more like an organizational soldier than a legitimate major league option to me. I wish him well but really don't know if he is really an option any better than what we can pick up off the streets or waivers on any given day.
  8. I don't think the retroactive date means anything at all. There would be no reason not to backdate it as far as a possible regardless of the projected injury time left.
  9. looking around the league there are a lot of guys battling for that fifth rotation spot that i'm sure would be better than Mitre that if Melvin was set on dishing out Dickerson I seroiuysly doubt Melvin thought there as a better option available for Dickerson. If there was and he didn't get him it would mean Melvin only talked to the Yankees and didn't even bother talking to said teams about those options. That, to me, is pretty far fetched.
  10. WE have our fair share of reserve outfielders who are not really every going to be more than that. We have had a run of injuries on pitchers which happens to be a place we are lacking depth. Sometimes the trade, even if lopsided talent wise on paper, can lead to more wins in reality. That assumes this is lopsided which I am not sure it is. We also just traded away Braun's best friend on the team, which probably won't make him happy either. I'm sure this was more or less an off handed comment so take the snarkyness of my response as seriously as I mean it to be. Which is to say not at all. I use this thing called a phone to talk to friends I don't see every day. It works pretty well so the need to have my friends at work every day is somewhat less necessary. My Guess is Braun knows of this technology and is willing to use it to keep in touch without anger or sorrow if it means a better chance of winning more games than a backup outfielder would offer. In all seriousness though friendships should not have the slightest effect on personnel decisions. Friendships are personal. Personnel decisions are professional.
  11. First of all, I don't think that it's a stretch at all to write Capuano a spot ahead of Narveson. What exactly has Narveson done to earn this lead pipe lock status as a starter? He's three years younger, under our control for three more years and isn't coming off his second Tommy John surgery.
  12. While confusing to us Jocketty might be the best GM in the business. While he says Chapman could be top of the rotation his actions speak differently.
  13. The Brewers had fewer injuries over the last decade than any team. In fact they just won an award for excellence. I highly doubt the medical staff or management are at fault. Judging from the articles I've read the x-ray was negative and sore ribs weren't going to effect him. When they didn't respond the way they should they rechecked with an MRI and found something. I don't remember seeing anything that his injury was exacerbated by the work he did so far.
  14. We have enough guys to choose from that if one fails we can replace him. I wish we didn't have so many guys with only one year in. Relievers are so inconsistent my only worry is the games it takes to find out who was a one year wonder and who is going though a tough stretch combined with finding the replacement for the flop may take too long if another team stays hot like the Reds did last season.
  15. Maybe it's just the eternal optimist in me, but I think they're going to surprise people this year (of course, by surprise I mean possibly contend for the WC). As one optimist to another welcome. For what it's worth I agree with the Mets assessment. I'm far from an expert but the Mets appeared to me to be in disarray top to bottom. I think in general it's wise for teams in that situation to stabilize, then asses, then build in that order.
  16. What a boost it would be if he finally got it.
  17. yet I have socks from 5 years ago that are still alive and kicking. May I suggest washing them?
  18. I know the general feeling is Baker abuses pitchers but this one is a stretch. He's far from the only manager who asked a starter to go an inning or two after a short start on their normal day of throwing on the side. In fact Harang had a relief appearance in 06 without a problem afterward. I find it hard to believe one game caused him to suck for years after. Perhaps three consecutive years of 210+ innings, all of which came before Baker got there, had more to do with it than one relief appearance and 60 pitches.
  19. Yep still sore today. And I have people coming over to play a game tonight. Dog's ready to go so I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up. On the bright side 47 next week and can still see my abs.
  20. I have long been fan of opening up the five boroughs to other teams. I have a feeling if a team tried to move to Brooklyn or Manhattan he'd be the first to scream unfair. The other issue he might just want to get his head around is how an entire nation watching baseball is more profitable for the largest, most known team, in the league than it would be if the sport was only followed by the five largest metropolitan areas of the nation. Memo to Hank. You make more money by helping the game grow than if it's just a regional game followed a by a few people on each coast. If you had actually had to earn your money you might already understand that.
  21. I was doing some exploring recently and noticed that Pujols led the league in defensive WAR (all positions) in 2007 and 2008. The skills needed to be a first baseman is so different than those needed in center for instance that it makes no sense to compare them. WAR IMHO is the most useless advanced metric in baseball. Defensive WAR even less useful.
  22. It started to snow at 11:30am. My dog and I love playing skip dog in the snow so we went out. We came in at 6:30pm. What I learned from that was 7 straight hours of throwing a firsbee to a dog leads to very sour abs.
  23. A turd to the end. I guess he has to start campaigning now since his name was connected to PED's.
  24. The crack of the bat. The sound of ball hitting leather. Rich Harden is injured. All signs baseball is near.
