  1. Mets would be crazy to deal Syndegaard for Gomez. But then again the Mets do make plenty of perplexing personnel moves
  2. It is a fairly reasonable assumption that Braun was on roids at Miami. But I guarantee you that if he was, the Brewers completely knew about it and selected him anyways. They knew there was some risk there. It wasn't like they were duped
  3. Your points are well made. It would be great to see him continue playing like he has Personally I think the increase in oppo HR's as opposed to pull HR's is a very good thing and a sign of him getting better or smarter. Pitchers are throwing outside to him. He stands way off the plate. Pitching inside to him is a ball.
  4. I hope Braun keeps raking so we can trade him. His contract isn't all that bad for a big market team if he can hit 30 HR's a year
  5. Scooter's hitting mechanics are completely messed up. He had a beautiful swing last year. Can't help but wonder if Darnell Coles is one of those "swing down at the ball" hitting guys in MLB who have absolutely no clue as to how elite hitters actually hit (you'd be astonished how many former pro players & current pro hitting instructors think like that/teach like that. They literally have no understanding of how explain the way they actually swung a bat when they were a player.) Scooter looks like a classic case of someone screwed up his swing
  6. That is one seriously ugly lineup. And I say that as a Counsell fan, realizing he has few options. Wow Looks like a Spring Training split squad lineup.
  7. Counsell is very into the r,l,r,l.. batting order. As he should be. RRR flunked that part of Baseball 101
  8. I really like Craig Counsell's lineups, for the most part. I like how he mixes things up and he doesn't really have a lead-off hitter so he has to improvise. Pitcher hitting 8th? Cool!
  9. No matter what you think of Bonds, a .480 OBP is absolutely incredible at any age, let alone 42 years old!!!!
  10. With how many pitchers are going down with injuries in MLB already this year, I think some of the posters here are grossly underestimating the trade value of Lohse & Garza. Factor in that in recent years there are way more buyers than sellers at the trade deadline and those two could actually bring back some fairly strong prospects.
  11. Roenicke really didn't have much of a chance in 2015. An incredibly poor job of roster building by Doug Melvin and I'm amazed he still has his job.
  12. More their fault for employing Dusty Baker as their manager for so long, as he consistently abused pitchers' arms and disregarded pitch counts and high stress innings
  13. Craig Counsell is a *Genius of Baseball* and will be highly successful. He just needs better players That's all. Simple solution
  14. And that is 100% the most important thing that anyone on this forum should ever read if they want to understand the Brewers way of doing things. Melvin is speaking for Mark A there, and he is saying that revenue streams are more important than doing what is necessary to contend for a World Series. That mentality is exactly why the Brewers can be a perpetual .500 team with occasional bursts of playoff chances
  15. I like the lineup. Going Left/Right/Left/Right like an actual professional Baseball team CF Carlos Gomez LF Gerardo Parra RF Ryan Braun 1B Adam Lind 3B Aramis Ramirez 2B Scooter Gennett SS Jean Segura C Martin Maldonado RHP Matt Garza
  16. Honestly, this is the most optimistic I've felt about the Brewers future in several years. I sense that the front office really understands that a rebuild is likely needed. I am extremely optimistic about Craig Counsell as a Manager..... I think he could actually be a fantastic manager.....
  17. There are a lot less sellers than buyers at the deadline nowadays, with the extra wildcard. Hopefully there will be bidding wars on several Brewers players and the Brewers hold out for extraordinary deals on Lucroy & Gomez
  18. I agree and my concern is that when the time comes to hire a new GM, any prospective GM who tells Mark to essentially stop playing fantasy Baseball with a major league franchise and to let him run things in terms of player acquisitions is not going to get to the 2nd interview let alone get hired.
  19. Mark A is the reason Mark A turned around the franchise. Increased ticket sales. Increased revenue. Under Melvin the Brewers made the playoffs twice. I believe that Mark A thinks he knows how to help us contend every year and Doug has done what Mark wants him to do.
  20. I agree with the sentiment that a general acknowledgement (not publicly but within the front office) of a need for a change in direction and general rebuild has already been in place. The signing of Gilbert Lara, the Gallardo trade, last year's draft of mostly high upside players are all signs of that..... whether they'll be willing to go all in on a rebuild (which I think they need to do) and trade Lucroy/Lohse/Gomez/Lind remains to be seen
  21. Just a gut feeling but I think Counsell will do well as a Manager I believe that he understands that he is going to oversee a rebuild. I think he will hold players accountable and will be an upgrade in terms of in-game strategy from Roenicke
  22. Generally, someone at least coaches/manages in the minors for a year or two before becoming an MLB manager. Until recently
  23. A quick Google search for "Counsell charges the mound", "Counsell ejected" or "Counsell argues with ump" reveals zero, zip, nada. In fact, somewhat sadly (to me), Counsell ranks 81st All-Time on this list of the most MLB games played without ever being ejected http://thecardinalnationblog.com/2015/02/04/banks-musial-mcgee-among-never-ejected-mlbers/
  24. I don't want to side track this thread by delving too deeply into this topic, although it certainly does fall into the category of "reasons why Roenicke failed". Read the book "Throwback" by Jason Kendall. Please
