  1. He somewhat is the manager version of Kyle Lohse/Aramis Ramirez/Jeff Suppan, isn't he? Ugh
  2. Don't worry. Gomez will be traded soon anyway. Personally, I'm excited to find out how many very good prospects we can get for Gomez
  3. 3-15 (!) 3 games "up" on the Phillies for that #1 overall pick in the 2016 Draft Go Brewers?
  4. It is stunning how poorly the Brewers run the bases. I've been watching Baseball for over 40 years and I've never seen a team as inept at baserunning as the 2012-2015 Brewers. I've never even heard of a team being this bad at it. Game after game these kind of mistakes happen. You are right there is no accountability.
  5. I'm a 12U Travel coach in Southern Wisconsin. In the Tournaments we play I see quite a few Black kids, especially from Rockford, Chicago & Milwaukee
  6. The reasons they flopped have everything to do with how Melvin built the team. Way too many free swingers, a manager who doesn't demand plate discipline or baserunning excellence, less than average fielding, fairly average starting pitching, a not thrilling bullpen, a historically bad 1B platoon from 2012-2014. Sitting back waiting for 3 run HR's might have worked for the Orioles in the 70's but they had Hall of Fame pitchers and amazing defensive play in a pitchers park. In keeping with the theme of this thread, all the above elements of team building are exactly what I do not want, moving forwards in order to turn this sad franchise around
  7. I agree with monty57 that the Cubs are a good team for the Brewers to learn from, both in what to do and what not to do: Great job with International Signings, Draft picks, trading away players for prospects, rebuilding Poor job with: the Lester signing. Those are the contracts you want to stay away from, in my opinion (moreso perhaps for a smaller market team like the Brewers). Someone in the Cubs farm system should have retooled Javier Baez' ridiculous swing. I sense that for awhile the Brewers farm system had less than average coaching, but it is getting better. Still needs improvement especially with pitching development.
  8. A World Series pennant
  9. I agree. As I've posted elsewhere, I'd much prefer the Brewers to hold off on ever signing another free agent over 30 years old and only very rarely extend their own players, and instead spend all that money saved on Cuban & Dominican Republic players
  10. I took it as more of an entertainment piece rather than true social commentary First of all, the Negro Leagues players played the game "the right way" Secondly, there is no such thing as one singular Black culture. There are Black scientists, Black nerds, Black people who can't dance, Black people who aren't athletic, Black people who like Country music, etc etc Rock is perpetuating a lot of stereotypes in that piece. The percentage of White Americans is also decreasing in MLB. The ratio of White Americans to African-Americans in MLB might still be fairly similar to what it was in the the 70's/80's
  11. I really hope Alex Bregman drops to the Brewers. I've watched him a lot and I think he'll be something special. More likely a 2B or OF in MLB than a SS but he can hit
  12. Cincy now up 2-1 I feel like I cannot lose this season. If the Brewers win, I'm happy because they are my favorite team If the Brewers lose, I'm happy because I'm dreaming of a #1 overall pick in the Draft
  13. I believe that Ray Montgomery was hired to be a heir apparent to Melvin and the plan all along has been for Melvin to retire at the end of the season. Also, it happens regularly for owners to give a "vote of confidence" to a coach/manager before firing them within days of that comment. The offer to extend the contract of Melvin is likely just PR to say thanks to Doug for his years of hard work. At least that is what I'm hoping is happening
  14. Again, maybe Parra is banged up....but otherwise this is part of the curse of Ron and his predilection for small samples: I can just hear him: "we like Logy here, he's swinging a hot bat, 2 for 4 in the last 2 games with a Double." Ugh
  15. Parra might be banged up a little. Otherwise it makes no sense
  16. What about 3-13? Has that ever happened? I love the optimism..... and.... I don't know I will still watch every game (on TV, I won't spend $$$ on this team until Doug Melvin is fired) and root for them through thick & thin. There are several young players on the roster who I feel have the potential to be key contributors (or key trade pieces) in 2017/2018 when this franchise could be turned around: Segura, Gennett, Davis, Nelson, Jeffress, Peralta, etc.... it will be fun to watch their development
  17. There has never been a team in the last 100 years of MLB that started the season 2-13 and made the playoffs. However we might disagree on how we got here, or the best way to turn things around, let's please not sugarcoat the reality: the 2015 Brewers season is already done.
  18. Agreed! I'm super psyched about a Top 5 Draft Pick in 2016! Dare I even wish for the #1 pick?!
  19. That is why it is a roll of the dice. And many people have complained about "looking back" in this thread, so I will be careful how I say this: if, looking forward, the team doesn't sign any free agents over the age of 30/31, only very rarely extends their own players, and instead spends that $$$ on Cuban & Dominican Republican players, it will be money better spent. The willingness to increase payroll is exciting. The foolhardy mistakes they've made while doing so is maddening.
  20. This is an incredibly strong and poignant post, and speaks to the real problem. How do we turn this sad franchise around? Mark A needs to sell it to someone who will run it correctly! That is pretty scary, considering how much of a roll of the dice that is. Or Mark has to change his ways, which seems more remote. Can a Tiger change his stripes? Can a leopard change his spots. The owner blaming the players in the media is really pretty pathetic, in my opinion
  21. Now we're talking! Go back to the old Ball & Glove uniforms
