  1. RR started Mark Kotsay in CF in a playoff game!
  2. Of course RR will give Yuni B some starts, after all Yuni B has been batting over .400 in spring training and RR likes going with the "hot hand" (wish this was in Blue!)
  3. We have Alex Gonzales to back-up SS Sean Halton > Yuni B Theres a bunch of scrap heap backup 1B > Yuni B
  4. I'm going to go right out on a limb and predict that Lohse will be at least as effective over the next 1.5 seasons as Donald Zachary Greinke was in the Brewer uniform, and quite possibly better. Lohse was much better than Greinke last season.
  5. 2008 wasn't a bad year for him either, a 112 ERA+ which was actually higher than 2011. He pitched 200 innings in '08 with a 3.78 ERA
  6. Such as trading Greinke for Jean Segura and a couple of young pitchers?
  7. These are, indeed, the most important questions being asked right now. When will he be ready, and why not sign him 3 weeks ago? Is this a big reaction to how Fiers looked in Spring Training? Was it becoming evident that they couldn't wait until June 1st to sign Lohse in order to keep that draft pick? It isn't a horrible signing, to me, because our pitching for 2013 needs the most help. If Segura/Weeks/Gomez hit as well as I think they could, the Brewers could make a postseason run if the pitching isn't terrible
  8. The Brewers are reportedly thinking about keeping Khris Davis on the MLB roster. Its great that he can hit, but is it wise to have a bench player who seems capable of only playing the same position as the franchise player? http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/198629161.html
  9. Khris Davis: school me on why exactly we think he can play 1B? He's never played there in 4 minor league seasons. He's been a LF his entire pro career
  10. call me a Ryan Braun Kool-Aid drinker, but I continue to believe what Braun has to say about this subject. I'm biased, he's my favorite player of all-time, but yeah I believe him
  11. I think Taylor Green can outperform Huff or Lee, and I don't have faith that Green can perform at replacement value for a 1B
  12. I suppose. Although I'm of the thinking that if you are an above average catcher you can play 1st base! He certainly couldn't be any worse defensively at 1st than Prince Fielder was.....
  13. It's not like I'm expecting the Brewers to do this, but to me if the Brewers don't feel like Morris is ready yet, then I'd rather have Lucroy at 1B with Maldonado behind the plate than Gonzalez/Green/Halton at 1B
  14. Rough news. I hope to see Hunter Morris step up and play the majority of 1B until Hart is back.
  15. While they still project Braun's stats to be All-Star level, they are actually predicting him to regress in terms of HR's, BA, and OBP.... I'm a little more optimistic than that as Braun seems smack dab in the middle of his peak years right now....
  16. I see Braun as having the potential to finish with 600 HR's in his career and be thought of as a Top 20 all-time player. He's that good. I think he deserves the MVP this year, too
  17. I would definitely take 6 years of Segura over shelling out $120+ million for Greinke, so I'm happy with the trade and with Segura's potential. Is Segura going to be great? No one knows. There is a chance of that. Even good SS's are hard to find. I wish he had more OBP ability (i.e he rarely walks). I like his speed and natural ability
  18. T minus how long before the cost of Dodgers tickets doubles?
  19. We were at the game today and it was a pretty dismal effort by the Brewers, but that said we still had fun. My 9 year old was in the "Kids Club Parade" before the game so we got to walk along the warning track, and Juan Pierre said hello to us when we walked by him. Bob Uecker said hello to us after the game when we were leaving our section, so that was pretty cool. I liked seeing the hustle & effort by Segura in the field, he's got a strong arm too. Somebody needs to teach him how to take walks though.
  20. I've had to really adjust my thinking about Aramis Ramirez. I cringed when we signed him and feared that he was over the hill but he's been one of the top 2 or 3 3B's in MLB this year. The Brewers won't be rebuilding next season, they are re-tooling and working at contending in 2013, so I see no reason whatsoever to trade Aramis, and I think realistically the chances of trading Aramis are very slim, Melvin won't do it. I like Segura's potential a lot. I think he should be hitting 7th though, I want to see him stealing bases and there don't seem to be many SB chances coming up with him hitting 8th I'm a big fan of Mike Fiers. I'm cautiously optimistic that he will be our ace for the next 5 years. Fiers-Gallardo and pray for rain doesn't sound good, but there are a lot of "if's" included in there (if Rogers is for real, if Peralta will be ready, if Marcum is brought back for one year and "if" he is healthy) I suppose I'd focus the most on shoring up the bullpen in the off-season and figure out 3-5 in the rotation
  21. I would say it is more like this: In just the past few years, we've witnessed the deaths of the careers of Eric Gagne, Trevor Hoffman, and Francisco Rodriguez; arguably 3 of the most overrated closers in history But yeah, I hear you....
  22. I would commit to him as my every day CF in 2013, with Logan Schafer getting some time at CF vs RHP, but not a straight platoon.
  23. Problem is, Adam Dunn gets a way better OBP for the money, and more HR's edit: meant to add, I don't have a problem with keeping Hart for 2013 and trying to make the 2013 playoffs. Trade him at the deadline if we're out of it in July 2013, or let him walk after the season
  24. I am increasingly thinking that Jackie Robinson is one of the most underrated baseball players of all-time and that, as great as Joe Morgan was, that Jackie should be considered a better player than Morgan. Joe Morgan had more stolen bases than Robinson, but he played in an era when stolen bases were a much more common occurence. Morgan never led the league in SB's, whereas Robinson did, twice.... A big part of Morgan's appeal is his on-base percentage, and yet Jackie had a better career OBP (.409 to .392) a much better career OPS (.883 to .819) and an equal OPS+ of 132 Jackie's career BA was a full 40 points higher than Joe's. That means when a player is on 2nd or 3rd, there is a much higher % of time that Jackie was knocking in the runner as opposed to taking a walk. Jackie's BA was almost 40 points higher than the league average, whereas Joe's was just 11 points higher. Their OBP was about equal in terms of differential to league average: Jackie's OBP was 62 points higher than league average, whereas Joe's was 66 points higher. They were both terrific fielders, but Jackie was much more versatile, being able to play fantastic D at 3B, 1B and OF in addition to 2B (and he played SS in the Negro Leagues). Joe was a 2B who played OF, too Neither was lights out in the postseason, but Jackie was better there, too and much better in All-Star Games Morgan hit more HR's, but had a much lower slugging % I think if you adjust for league averages, Robinson was actually much closer in ability to Honus Wagner than people give him credit for.....
  25. It was fun watching him last night. He looked nervous, a little, I don't think he took a single pitch all night and if he did it was only one or two pitches. I'm sure they will coach him up a little and let him know that if he swings at every pitch MLB pitchers will never throw him strikes. While I don't expect a Joe Morgan/Wade Boggs approach at the plate, his minor league stats show an OBP 54 points above his BA (.313/.367) so again I chalk last night up to nerves. He'll learn to get more patient and him being in the lineup adds to the fun of watching the Crew the rest of the season
