  1. Tulowitzki is a 5-6 WAR player every year when he's healthy, Segura is off to good a start in his first full season but he needs to complete a season in that range before we can really start making that kind of comparison. I'm not saying Segura doesn't have the talent, I think he clearly does, he just doesn't have the track record. Absolutely. I agree. That said Segura has already put up a 2.1 WAR (according to BaseballReference.com at least) on the season in just 34 games, which is pretty phenomenal. Tulowitzki has been "amost as good" with a 1.9 WAR so far batting .324 with 8 HR's and an OPS over 1.000 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/segurje01.shtml
  2. That is right, forgot about that. I agree that Tulo is still the best SS in the NL but Segura is closing fast
  3. Yes, I know it is early, but I think there is a strong chance the Brewers will be out of it at the trade deadline and be able to be sellers ..... Is there anyone outside of Braun, Segura, Lohse, Gomez you would refuse to trade? Lucroy maybe? Peralta since he's cost-controlled Can the Brewers even get anything of significance for Gallardo, Hart, Weeks, Ramirez, Axford (yeah right, as if), Betancourt, Aoki, K-Rod? Would the Brewers even be willing to trade guys that they see as significant pieces like Gallardo, Weeks, Hart, Ramirez?
  4. The biggest problem, to me, with Yuni B always was (and always will be) Yuni B at SS. He has no range and in my opinion was a horrible shortstop. Yuni B as a utility guy who can fill in at other defensive positions, sure I can deal with that OK
  5. Funny how 2 people can look at the same thing and see completely different things. I see plenty of hustle and excitement and swagger in players like Gomez & Segura & Braun. Gomez in particular is an amazing talent and is seemingly putting it all together now at just the age of 27. That is exciting.
  6. That, to me, sums up exactly the problem with the Brewers. I don't have inside information about the front office, and maybe that is changing a little (trading for Segura, extending Gomez), but my perception is that Mark A is all about "whats best for this season" every single year
  7. I get that, to a degree, sure. But we've been drafting pitchers over many years who never even make it to the MLB level. Take a look at the 2006 draft: are the Mariners kicking themselves for passing over Clayton Kershaw & Tim Lincecum for Brandon Morrow? Sure, but at least they got MLB innings and a few good years out of Morrow. An MLB team cannot afford to swing and completely miss on pitching as much as the Brewers have
  8. Scooter video/interview http://fox6now.com/2013/03/12/beyond-the-game-milwaukee-brewers-scooter-gennett/
  9. Roache is off to a decent start and is a fascinating player, to me. It'll be interesting to see how quickly he climbs the ladder Through 14 games he is hitting .255/.361/.772 with 2 HR's and 2 Doubles. He has mainly played LF and not RF which is a concern. Does he have the arm to play RF? Can he play 1B? Count me in on the Scooter Gennett bandwagon. The guy is hitting .354 in AAA as a 23 year old. True he doesn't walk enough but his career OBP is 38 points higher than his BA, its not like he never walks. I think he'll be a solid starter at 2B for the Brewers in the future
  10. In general I think Roenicke is OK. If he hadn't started Kotsay in CF in a playoff game I might even like him. He makes some moves that are head-scratchers but nearly every MLB manager does that over the course of a 162 game season. I think his hands have been somewhat tied due to the player personnel decisions made by Doug Melvin. My favorite Brewers manager in recent memory was Ned Yost and even though Yost made perplexing decisions regarding the bullpen and pitching in general, I loved his intensity and I think a credible argument can be made that Yost was better than Sveum, Macha & Roenicke
  11. We have swung and missed multiple times in drafting pitching, or passing on great pitchers to take other players. This goes way back into the 90's including passing on Adam Wainwright and Roy Halladay in drafts In 2004 we picked Mark Rogers when Jered Weaver was available. D'oh!!! In 2005 we picked Ryan Braun In 2006 we picked Jeremy Jeffress over Ian Kennedy, Daniel Bard, Bryan Morris In 2007 we picked Matt LaPorta over Madison Bumgarner In 2008 we picked Brett Lawrie. There would've been no need to trade Lawrie had we properly drafted pitching previous to that pick! In 2010 we drafted Dylan Covey over Zach Lee, Jesse Biddle
  12. It is difficult to know from the outside looking in just how great of a coach Johnny Narron is, but everything I've read has been overwhelmingly positive. He certainly had a fantastic effect on Josh Hamilton I wonder how good his DVD is. Anyone seen this?: http://www.narronprohitting.com/
  13. Aaron really was incredible like that. Alot of scouts saw a similar bat speed quality with Rickie Weeks, which led to Weeks being the #1 pick. It sure looked like Rickie could've been a superstar but alas it seems not meant to be. Not that any of that about Weeks has anything to do with Segura but the comments about Aaron and bat speed had me thinking about the way I used to think about the potential of Rickie Weeks when he was in AA & AAA ball. The difference being that Aaron was a solid .300 hitter who could lay off the outside curveball in ways that Weeks never has. Weeks' wrist injuries may have effected his ability to deal with the high fastball too I really love watching Jean Segura play baseball. As a Little League coach, I think the attitude, hustle and pure apparent love for the game that both Segura and Carlos Gomez display are qualities that any coach at any level would love to see in their players. Add to that the great athletic talent and speed and you can see why Segura has the potential to be a fan favorite for many years.
  14. As long as he doesn't play SS he (obviously) has value as a backup who can fill in at various positions when starters are hurt or need a day off
  15. yep, small sample but its fun to think that he's on pace for a 27 HR, .341 BA, .960 OPS season
  16. Remember BA's first game where he said "will not carry" on every fly-ball? Love having Gomez in CF every day. Baseballs go to die in Center with Go-Go out there
  17. He's certainly helping to make up for Jerry Augustine. I like Augustine OK in the post-game though. Where is Jeff Cirillo when you need him?!
  18. Right now, despite appearing to be "off" at times, Braun is on pace for a 54 HR, 162 RBI, .999 OPS season! Pretty incredible
  19. I like the Fox Sports Women/Girls
  20. Pretty awesome to be "off" while on pace for a 54 HR, 162 RBI, .999 OPS season!!!!!!
  21. Only the University of Miami kept him from having a chance at the All-Time MLB HR record. Shoulda entered the draft at 18! (kidding/kinda) I do think Braun has the potential to end up considered one of the top 25-50 players of all-time in MLB history. Especially if he can consistently keep his OPB over .400 for several seasons like I think he is about to
  22. I was laughing at Sveum pitching to Braun in that at-bat when Braun hit the HR. I know traditionally you don't intentionally walk the bases loaded but with Weeks struggling as much as he has I don't think the smart choice was to pitch to Braun in that instance
  23. Segura's speed is one of the extra reasons why I want him remaining in the 2 slot no matter who comes back from injury
  24. I just really hope RR keeps Segura in the 2 hole when Ramirez comes back and when Hart comes back too. I think leaving Segura there and having Weeks bat 6th (or 7th after Lucroy) really solidifies our lineup and might take a lot of pressure off of Weeks
