  1. Spitballing here. I'd guess that no substantial improvement quality P option could be had on a low risk one year deal. So the options would be very risky multi year deals to Ps or try to pick up a few wins with a low risk batter instead. As a team that watched Looper, Suppan, Lohse, Wolf, etc I think we know the risk they're trying to avoid. Well, sure, however it wouldn't need to be a one year deal. The Grandal, Chacin, & Moustakas money is all coming off the books next year. Braun's money is coming off the books after 2020 etc...
  2. My thoughts are that, if they are at their payroll limits, why spend on Moustakas instead of spending on pitching? That makes almost zero sense.
  3. Disagree strongly re Grandal. Lucroy brought back Brinson & Ortiz and Grandal is unquestionably more valuable than Lucroy was at that time... Moustakas' value at the trade deadline last year was Jorge Lopez (while not great, still an MLB pitcher) and Brett Phillips. And Chacin isn't a Cy Young candidate but there likely won't be a ton of reliable starting pitchers available at the deadline. Of course it depends on how well he pitches between now and July 30th
  4. On the flip side, if they are out of it at the trade deadline (again, I don't think they will be) they could certainly get a nice return for Grandal and could get additional prospects for Moustakas, Thames, and possibly Chase Anderson...
  5. I posted this in the IGT today so I apologize for the duplicate post but thought it applicable here: I'll admit I've been really down on this team in the last few weeks, however looking at the parity in the NL this season, I think they'll be in playoff contention all year. I trust they'll upgrade the pitching staff at the trade deadline (hopefully not sacrificing Hiura or Ray). Is this pitching staff frustrating? Of course, however just about every NL team has a glaring weakness at times...

  7. Thames in RF & Gamel in LF? Is that a typo? Moustakas at 2B, Aguillar at 1B, Thames in RF. Quite possibly one of the worst defensive sides of the field in franchise history. Good thing they can hit, and good thing for shifts!
  8. Braun is back under .200 ... Again, I ask: If he is still below .200 by June 1st, will he be benched? http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/28721/ryan-braun
  9. Exactly. That's the thing. 100 years from now Pitchers might have robotronic arms and throw 500-600 Innings a season. 100 Wins in 2 seasons might be possible. Of course the Brewers' home stadium might be on Mars, not Milwaukee...
  10. Do you anticipate this curse lasting more or less than 108 years? I'll take the under on the 108 year curse. I think it is way overdue for Braun to be a platoon player. His ability to focus in the clutch would make him a better than average pinch hitter, as well.
  11. As long as Yelich hits like steroid era Barry Bonds in September again, everything should be fine...
  12. I've got doom. I've got gloom. I ain't got much else. Arcia's glove is awesome. Oh, and just wait till Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, & Gallardo make it to the bigs, then we'll have something special. Hopefully Ned doesn't wear out Sheets' arm while we wait...
  13. With this loss only the Marlins, Reds, Giants & Rockies will have a worse record than the Brew Crew in the NL
  14. At least it is still fun to watch Arcia play defense!
  15. Why did we give up on Domingo Santana? Especially when Braun is a shell of his former self? http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/31931/domingo-santana
  16. Strongly agree. Do we actually have anyone better than Jeffress in the bullpen? Hader maybe. Anyone else?
  17. Does Peralta really have a 2nd pitch let alone a 3rd? Is my memory incorrect that he was pretty good out of the bullpen last year?
  18. Keuchel & Kimbrel would help a lot. But instead we get mediocrity and cool bobbleheads.
  19. I was thinking more like 2009 when they threw out Looper, Parra, Suppan and Bush for 112 starts and the lowest ERA and FIP between the four of them was 5.22 and 4.88. 2009. 2012. The similarity being coming off of a playoff year and going into the next season with a highly questionable pitching staff.
  20. This team has been really boring to watch lately.
  21. Other than Chacin, who do we have that isn't a 5 inning pitcher on his best days? Anderson? Which is kind of why this doesn't excite me. Are we better from acquiring him? Honestly? Yes, they are better off with him, provided he can provide even a 4 something ERA. Our bullpen has been shockingly bad. This move provides some depth and if successful puts one of our young pitchers into the bullpen where they might be more productive.
  22. Yes. I'd prefer seeing them more aggressive with 2 strikes. Up there guessing?
