  1. If only they could be reasonably assured that he would still produce like the Kimbrel of 2012-2016.
  2. This is one of those things that MLB really should be looking into, to make the game more entertaining & appealing to younger generations, not the various ways of altering the game that they've suggested. I would love to be able to hear the manager vs umpire arguments, too. Also: the chatter between umpire, catcher, & batter on just about about every pitch is a huge part of the game, undoubtedly potentially entertaining & something 99% of fans are oblivious to... I'd pay double my cable bill to hear Yadier Molina & Country Joe West "discussing" balls & strikes if it'd mean I'd never have to hear another minute of John Smoltz going on & on about what's wrong with the game....
  3. Cubs have an older pitching staff that is a year older, and might regress a lot Brewers have a (generally) young pitching staff that with a year or two of experience under their belt can be reasonably expected to improve. Relief pitchers are volatile, so I don't know if we can expect the same production out of Jeffress/Hader/Knebel, although with all the depth in the organization, someone else might step up as a late innings star (my guess is Woodruff). While there may be regression candidates, a full year of Moustakas at 2B & Grandal at C could obliterate the numbers that were put up in 2018 at those positions over the course of that season. The Brewers look for real, although that doesn't guarantee anything. I'd still like to see them sign Keuchel. There is no such thing as too much pitching.
  4. No bueno. Sign Kimbrel. . Time for Houser to step up.
  5. You are apparently missing the fact that it was a slow news day.
  6. Give me a break. It is completely ridiculous that this is even a story. They wrestled over a phone and she accidentally fell down....
  7. Strongly agree with JimH5 here. TV revenue is way up and increasing, ticket costs are way up, MLB as a whole is rapidly making more & more money. We pay to see the greatest players on the planet play the game. I'm sure there is a portion of fans who just love tailgating & drinking beer & partying at the ballpark, and would be happy to root root root for the home team no matter who is playing, but a vast majority of us tune in to see the best of the best. I honestly do not care if Mark A ever makes another dollar in his life. Yelich, Cain, Trout, Betts, Scherzer etc etc. They (the players) are the product. I'd pay good money to watch Mike Trout face Max Scherzer on some sandlot somewhere. If there was a prolonged strike and scab teams in MLB uniforms played in Miller Park, no chance I'm paying a dime to watch that...
  8. I don't know if players are on the wrong side of public perception. The general public is much more aware of things than in the 80's & 90's. Why shouldn't players get a bigger portion of revenue? Without the players MLB would be nothing...
  9. He was a class act at the press conference. Happy to play 3rd. Happy to have a mentorship role with the younger players. I'll again say I wish the Brewers had stepped up & signed him! I am certain that a majority of Brewers fans wouldn't want Ty Cobb on the team because he was a dirty player & a "mean person" etc etc (if you could put 1911 Cobb in a Time Machine). I just want a World Championship!!!!
  10. Clemente's Dream, I respect those point of views. I'll probably be less of a fan of MLB when the DH comes to the NL, but I definitely won't stop watching it. By the way, I recommend Strat-O-Matic over APBA.
  11. I'd be thrilled if the Brewers signed Machado to that contract, especially with the opt out and without the no trade clause. I'm certain I'm very much in the minority in that opinion, but there's no doubt he'd put the Brewers over the top in terms of title contention.
  12. Mark does a pretty good job with Public Relations. He says the Brewers are really pushing the payroll, and I suppose we cannot do anything other than believe him (or doubt him), but the point being there is not any data available to the public in which we can accurately analyze what he is saying. Despite the slightly "Wizard of Oz" type feeling to all of this ("pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"), I am certainly happy to hear that the owner is willing to add to payroll at the deadline. That could mean the likes of bringing someone like Bumgarner on board for the stretch run. Another way of looking at this, is that he is signaling that we are done signing anyone, we're not signing Keuchel, but he is open to adding at the deadline. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, again we don't have access to the books. We are simply left having to accept the narrative that the Brewers don't have any more money to spend. Hmmmmmm. OK
  13. C'mon now, this is Brewerfan.net, leave the Thames is better than Cain talk to the comments section on JS Online, if there is such a thing. Cain provides great OBP, great defense, & great baserunning.
  14. As long as Shaw sits when we are facing a LHP, I don't care who plays where
  15. Keuchel doesn't come without risk. He's 31 years old and has only been really good every other year. I somewhat think of him as a left handed version of Chacin, however the bigger name and Cy Young adds to his price in ways that Chacin didn't. Because I don't expect Keuchel to be a whole heckuva lot better than Chacin, I would hope we don't overpay for him. I think we have our ace ready to roll in Corbin Burnes.
  16. MLB wouldn't make a dime without the elite incredible players who are so much fun to watch. The players should get a bigger piece of the revenue.
  17. It really seems like a win-win, to me, for both Nola & the Phillies. Nola gets set for life financially. The Phillies lock up one of the best pitching talents in Baseball for the 1st 2 years of what would have been his free agency. There is risk on both sides, but that is true in almost any contract. And if Nola turns out to be one of the very best, those numbers are gonna seem like bargains in the last 2 years
  18. This is a great deal for the Phillies. Nola was incredible last year. The numbers he put up, considering his home ballpark & the defense behind him, were beyond elite.
  19. Moustakas hit .260 vs LHP last year. Shaw hit .209 vs LHP with a .296 SLG vs LHP. He should never (or extremely rarely) face LHP's They are not very similar at all as hitters. I like Kluber, but I doubt the Indians are all that serious about trading him, unless blown away by an offer.
  20. Or at least Christmas 80 times a year. Fly the L!!!!
  21. It was a private text. Bothy shared it at Fan Fest in a humorous manner. Mostly just an inside joke from an old school manager. In my opinion people are making way too much of this
  22. Wishing him the very best. Hopefully he is fully healthy and has a tremendous season. Very easy guy to root for and by all accounts a fantastic teammate & clubhouse guy. He helped the Brewers, I'm certain, in multiple ways that only the players & coaches would know about. Thanks Mr Vogt for what you did in Milwaukee!!!!
  23. Now that is pretty cool news! Love seeing a player with "something to prove" get a chance. Low risk high reward type move.
  24. I think Ruth & Cobb would be similar to Mike Trout: perennial MVP candidates, obvious 1st Ballot Hall of Famers, putting up 9 & 10 WAR seasons year in & year out. I don't think Cobb would hit .400+ in today's game, but he'd be a guy hitting .350 with Billy Hamilton's baserunning ability. That is pretty valuable!
